Idol bits: Kellie Pickler shaves head; Simon Cowell angry at ‘The Voice’

pickler6f-1-web

Kellie Pickler’s cancer-stricken best friend Summer Holt Miller started chemotherapy treatment so Pickler, in sympathy, shaved her blonde locks.

“Cancer does not discriminate,” the “American Idol” alum said in a release posted by The New York Daily News.

“If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it,” added Miller, who recently underwent a double mastectomy.

Good news: she still looks good sans hair.

- Simon Cowell went off when he heard “The Voice” decided to add a third night on Wednesday to compete directly with his “X Factor.”

He told TMZ: “These guys have really got it in for us. It’s nothing short of dirty tricks.”

“The reason they’ve done this is they don’t want people to see ‘X Factor’ because they’ve heard how good the series is. They don’t want their audience to see Britney Spears. They don’t want their audience to see Demi Lovato.”

He’s going to be on this press conference at 4 p.m. today. I hope he’s just as feisty on that call as he was with TMZ.

Kellie’s on the right, and RoHo, she really is still pretty without the hair.

Kelly’s the one on the right… with the low-cut necklineto show off her surgically-enhanced cleavage.

Thanks, Rodney. I think Kellie looks pretty without her hair, too, Sam-A.

Oh, and Sam, here is a link to my favorite Joe South song. It is a tribute and has photos from his past, including one you will enjoy of him with Bill Lowery. Who is the other guy? I am sure you will know. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AirBbS4R7Z0

Given how dark her roots are, it appears (gasp!) that Kellie is not a natural blonde! What, what????

Thank you, Harriett! Forgotten what a CUTIE Joe was back then! I was young, but remember really liking him a lot. That’s Tommy Roe (”Sweet Little Sheila”, etc) on the right of Bill. I have a bunch of the NRC and Fairlane records up in our storage rental. If I can ever get up there with time to go thru them, I’ll see if there are any Paul Peek LP’s, and if so, see if you might want a couple of them. Mother gave a bunch of stuff to the GA Music Hall of Fame a number of years back, but there’s still a ton of records and acetates. That is a great song, by the way.

Thanks for the post Rodney, I was thinking that yesterday regarding Kellie’s hair color when DanJ posted the link. Kellie rocks the bald look.

Regarding Simon: what a spoiled git. This is show buisness, it’s a competition, now he is going to cry “dirty trick” due to simple competition? I’m really over Simon, he’s not a good person.

Thanks, Sam. I would love anything related to Paul Peek. It was such a privilege to know him and to be a member of his band all those years ago. I spent many happy hours with him and with his family also. I am still in touch with his son and his sister. And, thanks for identifying Tommy. I kind of thought that was who it was.

Bill Lowery was such a fine person.

Bill and Billie were great people and great friends to my folks. The day of Daddy’s funeral, when we brought Mom home, there was a gorgeous huge, very unique floral arrangement on the doorstep from the Lowerys. In it were some “curly willow” branches. One was sprouted and planted in my back yard, and grew to a lovely little tree that lived for about 10 years. And Billie, knowing Mom didn’t drive, came over every couple weeks for a good while with armloads of groceries for her. We were so appreciative of their thoughtfulness.

What a nice story! Thanks for sharing. Integrity is a word I always associated with Mr. Lowery. I heard stories about how he insisted his artists not participate in anything shady or questionable in the music business. This was especially true during the payola thing.

I think Simon’s verbal sparring with The Voice is all planned and could turn into a rating bonanza for both show. Nothing spell ratings like a feud…especially one that makes headlines! A war of words between the shows would push Idol out of the news.

Good point DanJ, which may be why Idol still has not made an “official” announcement regarding the remaining judges.

This video made me tear up just a little. Kelly singing A Moment Like This on her 10th anniversary:

Thanks, D: for me, few things more beautiful than that gorgeous voice backed only by a piano. My fave Kelly song: “Beautiful Disaster” – the live version with only piano accompanyment. I actually really like “Moment Like This” – by far the best “winner inauguraton song” – though I also really like “Home” this year.

Did you miss the following just below the video link?:

Country Vibe is confirming that Keith Urban has accepted an offer to be an American Idol judge.

Sources have confirmed exclusively to The Country Vibe that Keith Urban has accepted an offer from American Idol to sit at the judges table next to Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and a rumored fourth judge that will likely not be Randy Jackson for the upcoming season of the show.

According to their source, Keith will earn $3 million to join Idol.

$3 million doesn’t seem like its enough to deal with a diva on one side and crazy on the other.

Only 3 million for Keith Urban? He should file a sexual discrimination lawsuit against Idol. Mariah is getting what 15? 17 million? Talk about chump change! I bet Keith re-records Jerry Reed’s song: She’s got the goldmine I got the shaft. It’s apropos!

Sam-A: “for me, few things more beautiful than that gorgeous voice backed only by a piano. ”

I agree with you Sam-A (scary, I know!)

One of the most amazing performances I ever saw was Mel Torme many years ago on the Tonight Show. Just him, a piano, and the most beautiful rendition of “The Christmas Song” I’ve ever seen,

Rickster:
Love bands, with bass, drums and guitars, love orchestral music, but a truly glorious voice needs only a piano to give a stunning performance. Or a classical guitar (thinking of Sir Paul’s performance of “Yesterday” on Ed Sullivan show all these years ago – just his beautiful voice and his unplugged guitar).

On the other hand, not a fan of a capella performances at all. Weird I guess, but gotta have just a bit of instrumental backing.

Morning!

Reports are surfacing that Enrique Iglesius has been offered the job at Idol. Eye candy for the ladies(along with Keith Urban who is pretty good looking, too) Not sure he’ll be much of a judge but time will tell. He mentored briefly last season with Nicole whatsherface on XF.

Wow! C’mon, Simon! Time to put your big boy pants back on! (You wanker!) Gee, a competing show on a rival network doesn’t want people to watch your show?!? …What a shock! …Have to admit, I never saw that coming.

DAMMIT! Where’s that sarcasm emoticon??

Ho Hum. Enrique, huh? My Idol has disappeared in its effort to “keep up with the Jones.” Four judges, just like the other two shows, etc. But, I will watch–to the bitter end.

RoHo, I think it’s fairly common for people with blonde hair to have that darker “stubble” when it’s shaved off. Saw that quite a bit in the military. I’ve also known some blondes who, when photographed, looked like they were brunettes.

(No, JT, not THAT kind of photography!!!)

From Entertainment Weekly:

Sources say Latin singer-songwriter Enrique Iglesias has now received a firm offer for a spot on the reality hit, which may expand to four judges next year despite shedding its entire previous panel.

EW.com reported last week that rapper Nicki Minaj and Aussie country artist Keith Urban were poised to join pop diva Mariah Carey on the show, and that Iglesias (or, if he passes, Adam Lambert) could fill a fourth spot. Longtime Idol judge Randy Jackson is set to move to a mentor role. Now we’re hearing Iglesias has received an offer for about $4 million per year, on par with Urban’s deal.

So all you who want Adam, just cross fingers that Iglesias is insulted by the $4M and turns it down, and maybe Adam will then be a done deal.

Downside, 4 JUDGES! AGAIN! Boo.

Highlander, you’ll admit, I assume, that a lady in the spotlight often is not nearly as naturally blonde as she would have you believe? She may have been born a blonde but it is difficult to maintain that level of blonde-ness as we age past our 20’s without a little extra help.

It’s a terrible disease and the recovery depends to a great extent on the support of your close friends. I don’t know whether I’d have the courage to do this for my friend. However, I do my best to raise awareness as far as prevention is concerned and I’m very glad that more and more people support the organizations whose members are working hard every day to relieve the sufferings of cancer patients. This weekend is a perfect opportunity for all Torontonians to participate in the event called the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers taking place in our city. It’s one of the most important events of this month and I think all of us should show our support to those who really need it.
