Ryan Seacrest sells mansion for $11 million

ryanseacrest_652_MattSayles__article_story_main

“Idol” host Ryan Seacrest has sold his mansion for $11 million to pick up Ellen DeGeneres’ pad, according to TMZ.

He purchased the place for $11.5 million in 2006 but if anyone can afford to take a loss, it’s Seacrest.

The 8,000-square-foot mansion used to be owned by Kevin Coster and before that, Richard Dreyfus.

He and his girlfriend Julianne Hough have moved into Ellen’s former home, which he purchased earlier this year for $37.5 million.

Forbes also released its top 100 “most powerful” celebrities
. Former “Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez is No. 1, ahead of Oprah. “X Factor” judge Britney Spears is No. 6. Simon Cowell is at no. 18. Our local star Tyler Perry is 20. Seacrest is ranked No. 29.

- Clay Aiken is in a Twitter feud with fellow “Celebrity Apprentice” alum John Rich.

Aiken Tweeted: “Playing drinking game with my brother now. We drink every time we see a black person on screen at the RNC convention #soberasamormon”

Rich responded: “We drink every time we see a black …

Best moments from ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ reunion, part 1

7-300x225Mona Scott Young, the executive producer of “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” hosted the reunion in Atlanta a few weeks ago and it aired last night.

What did we learn? Not too much but here we go:

- Joseline, who quickly became the star of the show, looked good and didn’t back down. “I’m the baddest b-,” she said. And the b-word was thrown around liberally over the hour. Liberally. I will use it as the b- word the rest of this entry just because I have to have some standards. (The fact I’m writing about this at all means I have very low standards, but they are standards nonetheless.)

- Mona Scott Young said Joseline is definitely a woman and the pregnancy (that she ultimately aborted) was for real. How did she know? Young watched Joseline strip down and pee on a pregnancy test. Seriously. “I’m all woman… Eveyr b- wants to look like me. I’m a bad b.” – Joseline.

- Why she opted not to have the baby: “I wasn’t going to have a baby with a [curse word] with five kids.. I was not ready. I …

Where will Mara Davis go now that Dave is going away?

slmodelcitizen-7_1349934Mara Davis is an institution at 92.9, both when it was Z93 and the past eight years as Dave FM.

Now as Dave FM enters its final few weeks of existence before the station segues into sports talk, Davis is letting loose.

The mid-day host has been interviewing folks she wouldn’t have otherwise been allowed to: a local band Shadowboxers and Kristian Bush of country act Sugarland, to name a couple.

With people meter measurement, Dave FM’s past management forced her to cut back on her signature banter between songs. Now that doesn’t matter since the station is toast in a few weeks anyway.

Besides, what can current management do to her? Fire her?

Davis came to Z93 in the mid-1990s and was the only jock to survive the switch to Dave FM in 2004. She has spent most of her years there doing mid-days, with her signature theme-focused lunch hours. Most of the time, her ratings outranked those of other time slots.

Her current Dave FM contract is conveniently up on Friday, August 31. Her …

TBS’s next big hit? Probably won’t be ‘Wedding Band’

twb16_peter-cambor-brian-austin-green-harold-perrineau-and-derek-miller-ph-darren-michaelsTBS last year announced an hour-long comedy called “Wedding Band” focused on four immature young men who play in a wedding band (of course.) Its release kept getting pushed back.

The Atlanta-based network finally announced a rather inauspicious launch date: Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m.

Scripted shows rarely debut on Saturday unless there is a fundamental lack of confidence in said show.  That appears to be the case here.

The show stars Brian Austin Green, Harold Perrineau, Peter Cambor and Derek Miller.

While TBS has not generated a really big hit yet among its original comedies, two recent half-hour shows “Men at Work” and “Sullivan & Son” have done relatively well. And its repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” are pulling in relatively huge numbers.

TV One shot the first season of its spoken word/neo-soul combo show “Verses & Flow” at the King Plow Arts Center last year with Hill Harper as host.

This season, the show – which airs at 11 p.m. on Mondays – moved to Los Angeles with a new host: Marist and University of Georgia grad Omari Hardwick.

He has spoken-word cred, performing regularly at a theater in Los Angeles. “I’m a weird athlete-meets-poet-meets-actor,” he said in an interview last Friday. “I came from the world of writing and writing poetry and prose. I came from stage as an actor. It’s a perfect reunion of sorts of my beginnings of life as an artist meeting my present life as an artist.”

Hardwick – who has starred in “Kick-Ass,” “For Colored Girls” and “The A Team,” – cranked out eight episodes as the host in June over four days. Performers included Macy Gray, Tank, Elle Varner, Musiq Soulchild and …

TMZ: Katy Perry turned down ‘Idol’ and $20 million

Katy Perry nixed an "Idol" judge gig, according to TMZ. CREDIT: AP

TMZ isn’t always accurate but this report sounds plausible: Katy Perry turned down a $20 million one year offer to be on “Idol.”

She’s one of the biggest current pop stars with a string of hits under her belt. Why wouldn’t “Idol” want her? But Perry obviously has plenty of other options to keep her career aloft. “Idol” is not one she is going to consider.

That $20 million would be $2 million more than what Mariah Carey is reportedly getting paid.

- And in other TMZ-related “Idol” news, liar/ousted “Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones met up with his buddies on tour. For some reason, I don’t care.

- Phillip Phillips wins our “Best of the Big A” favorite Georgia reality star. If you want to see Phillips live for free Saturday, Sept. 1, he’ll be at Centennial Olympic Park from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m.

- The Republican National Convention entertainment includes Danny Gokey and Ayla Brown (whose Dad is a Senator from …

CNN adds HBO documentaries to weekend mix

CNN will begin airing more HBO documentaries as a way to bolster its weekend programming. On Saturday, Sept.1,  it will start with “41,” which features an interview with Pres. George H.W. Bush at Kennebunkport, Maine and aired on HBO in June.

The next day, CNN will air “Teddy: In His Own Words,” a 2009 documentary about the late Ted Kennedy.

HBO and CNN are both part of the Time Warner family so this is one strong brand helping a troubled one. CNN, whose ratings have flagged of late, is aggressively seeking more interesting weekend programming, adding Anthony Bourdain and Morgan Spurlock to its mix starting next year.

According to the New York Times, CNN has dipped into HBO’s trove of documentaries and sports programming before, with “Citizen USA,” about new American citizens, and “Triangle: Remembering the Fire,” about the fatal 1911 fire …

Watch Nancy Grace get ‘clocked’ in the face on ‘Drop Dead Diva’

s-DROP-DEAD-DIVA-NANCY-GRACE-120826-large

HLN’s Nancy Grace knows she has an easily mocked persona. Many TV shows have created Grace-like characters over the years or, in the case of “Saturday Night Live,” just made fun of her directly. Grace herself said she’s always enjoyed the parodies.

On last night’s “Drop Dead Diva,” shot primarily in Peachtree City, Grace plays herself. Jane Bingham, the lead character played by Brooke Elliott, accidentally clocks Grace with her elbow, as you can see below.

Obviously, a lot of you wished this were the real deal.

But since this is a scripted show, Grace actually had a stunt double who took the hit. Sorry!

TV best bets with season finales of ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Single Ladies’

breaking badThis is the lull week before the broadcast networks start carting out their fall lineups.

The only notable season finales are VH1’s Atlanta-based drama ‘Single Ladies,” which airs Monday and has been given the green light for a third season, and AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” which ends its eight-episode summer run Sunday. The final eight episodes air next year.

MONDAY

“Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” 8 p.m. VH1 — This seems to be some sort of leftover episode added on to milk ratings.

“Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern” 9 p.m. Travel (seventh season finale) — Andrew explores central Florida.

“Major Crimes” 9 p.m. TNT — Clues and facts become hazy when the crew investigates a deadly car accident at a nightclub.

“Single Ladies” 9 p.m. VH1 (second season finale) — VH1 has renewed this for a third season.

“Grimm” 10 p.m. NBC — Hank helps an old friend whose daughter is missing.

“Perception” 10 p.m. TNT — Pierce investigates a case revolving around a …
