UPDATE 9:48 p.m. August 30, 2012: Good news for Honey Boo Boo! Ratings were up 20% over last week, hitting almost 3 million viewers. Among 18-49 year olds, it was the No. 1 cable show of the night.
“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is all about bodily functions.
While other shows will edit out moments when the subjects sneeze, throw off phlegm, cough or fart, this TLC show does not. It’s hard to say if the producers are leaving these moments in to show that Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family are “real” or whether they are giving viewers a reason to mock them. Or both.
Otherwise, this was an episode featuring much ado about not much.
- Anna “Chickadee” Shannon, Honey Boo Boo’s 17-year-old sister, went to the hospital due to early contractions. They stabilized her, since she’s still five weeks from her due date for her daughter Kaitlyn.
- While Mama is trying to lose weight, Pumpkin, the 12 year old, is trying to gain weight. And she succeeds in spades! She goes from 164 pounds to 172 pounds in the latest weigh in. Mama does lose a pound but clearly she is not going on “Biggest Loser” any time soon. (She weighs 307.6 pounds!)
- They attend “Splash in the Boro” in Statesboro and Mama shows off her forklift injured toe, which she usually hides with socks. Her toe looks gross but what’s worse, gnats are flying around it. Where did they come from?
- At the pageant, Honey Boo Boo performs a sassy Elvis routine at the rock and roll pageant. She wins a queen award. That’s pretty much all on that front.
Honey Boo Boo is a quote machine as usual. A sampling:
‘”When my belly hurts, it’s usually gas or too many chicken nuggets.”
“I am not ready for Kaitlyn to come out. Going to smell like poo when she poops.”
“I hope I don’t see a bunch of wedgies at the water park. Vajiggle jaggle’s going to be hanging out though.”

I just happened to run across these comments and by the time I got to the last one, I was hurt. Hurt because of all the ignorance and race issue that was brought up through out these comments….First of all, there are so many reality shoes and if you don’t like it, don’t watch it..

I agree with the other posters that have positive things to say about this family. For all their faults, the family does seem to really care about each other, and Alana seems like a very happy child. The house she lives in is comfortable and is very clean and tidy (unlike those on some other shows, like Little People Big World!) I think Alana is prett hilarious and I get a real kick out of her.

Seriously, I think June should have her big toe that was hurt in the forklift accident looked at by a doctor.

You know what is hillarious??? People who are commenting on the show and say how they will not waist their time watching it and how trashy they are.. WHY ARE POSTING ABOUT IT?! Lol you get online to say you won’t watch the show?? Now who’s ignorant!? The show makes you laugh. Period! They don’t care what you think. No one else does either. You don’t have to live like them to like the show.

So, I don’t really watch TLC shows but one day I caught Honey Boo Boo after Four Weddings and could not stop watching. It’s for the same reason I cannot stop watching DNA talk shows. I am amazed that people would go on TV and display themselves in such a way.
My opinion is as follows:
I think beauty pageants are unhealthy for children and I don’t think a child has any business knowing, doing and saying the things that Alana does.
I am not surprised in the least that all of those children have different fathers.
No one can say that they are not ignorant with a straight face after the whole lot of them had to be explained what an abdomen is.
They do seem to be full of love and make the best of their situation.
That toe is nasty.
My opinions are not based on race, culture, or region. They are based purely on what is presented to me on TV.

Great stuff, and very entertaining.
Way better than the Kardashians, these guys are real and not “fake as hell stagers”.
My daughter really enjoy this show.
Can’t stand the Kardashians. June the mom is the best.

I’d rather watch this family than that truly disgusting excuse for a mother, Kris Kardashian and her pimped out phony as hell daughters. Not everyone lives the Cali lifestyle, there’s an entire country out there that isn’t west coast/east coast….no, June and family aren’t perfect, but Alana is an awesome kid with big potential. when she’s not playing up for the camera, you can tell that she has a well developed vocabulary and is a sharp kid. She has a lot of challenges ahead but you know what? I think she’ll survive and prosper. I love the show and I watch it every week and it made me laugh out loud that it beat the RNC in ratings! LOLLLLLLLLLLLL

I wouldn’t compare California to Arkansas. Like night and day. Too many people in Cali exercising and not enough Cheetos. You wouldn’t like it.

Absolutely disgusted with TLC. You know, I admitedly have little viewing experience of Toddler’s and Tiaras, but I think June is a decent mother to her kids.. there is a genuine affection there, and Alanna is a sweetheart. She cheers on everybody.. and I don’t get the sense at all that she is not enjoying herself. I doubt that anyone could ever make that child do anything she didn’t want to do anyway. June is overindulgent though.. and feeds her kids far too many snacks. Her house is immaculate though. Shame on TLC for the biased editing.. always catching them with the burps, farts and other body squeaks… how convenient. I am tuning out. I will not be mocking this family, who are trying hard to get by.

I like how the haters are really the ignorant ones here. First of all, they are too stupid to get their facts straight. While I am from Statesboro and make fun of the town as I please, this show is not filmed or based there. Statesboro has a nice waterpark, they visited – somehow that makes Statesboro the “Southern Ghetto” because Alana Thompson visited… heaven forbid she visit the Georgia Aquarium, then we will hear about the real Southern Ghetto. HCHBB is filmed near Dublin, Georgia where the family lives, about 2 hours from Statesboro.
Moving right along, I have not heard any mention on the show of who this family is voting for, so the off comments about “Obama voters” making a better show is just uninformed. Alana has a gay uncle, and if we are going to play stereotypes, I highly doubt he or his sister is going to vote for a gay-bashing prick like Mitt. Gays & their families are politically educated. While the Thompson family may not come across as obsessed with a fake appearance of the Highland Park republican, they seem to portray all the best values of any family by general standards.
I enjoy watching this show. My friends love to watch this show. I like how they show them burp and cough up mucus during the sit-down interviews lol. Its so gross, but hilarious! I love Honey Boo Boo!! She is so confident and positive!! She is so mature for a child her age but still cries over spilled milk – its so adorable! I can learn a lesson from her about what really matters in life.

Very adorable people! At first I was afraid to watch – kind of wanted to shield myself – but was pleasantly surprised to see the warmth and real affection amongst the family members – I love Alana and June! Alana is bright and funny and so affectionate. I was moved to tears when she talked to her sister who’s on bed rest. That kind of love is what makes them so adorable. They are indeed a diamond in the rough. Hope they do not get carried away. Hope June now gets enough money to fix her toe. We have to see past all the awkward moments!
