‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ recap, episode 6: forklift foot!

Alana-the-Honey-Boo-Boo-Child

UPDATE 9:48 p.m. August 30, 2012: Good news for Honey Boo Boo! Ratings were up 20% over last week, hitting almost 3 million viewers. Among 18-49 year olds, it was the No. 1 cable show of the night.

“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is all about bodily functions.

While other shows will edit out moments when the subjects sneeze, throw off phlegm, cough or fart, this TLC show does not. It’s hard to say if the producers are leaving these moments in to show that Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family are “real” or whether they are giving viewers a reason to mock them. Or both.

Otherwise, this was an episode featuring much ado about not much.

- Anna “Chickadee” Shannon, Honey Boo Boo’s 17-year-old sister, went to the hospital due to early contractions. They stabilized her, since she’s still five weeks from her due date for her daughter Kaitlyn.

- While Mama is trying to lose weight, Pumpkin, the 12 year old, is trying to gain weight. And she succeeds in spades! She goes from 164 pounds to 172 pounds in the latest weigh in. Mama does lose a pound but clearly she is not going on “Biggest Loser” any time soon. (She weighs 307.6 pounds!)

- They attend “Splash in the Boro” in Statesboro and Mama shows off her forklift injured toe, which she usually hides with socks. Her toe looks gross but what’s worse, gnats are flying around it. Where did they come from?

- At the pageant, Honey Boo Boo performs a sassy Elvis routine at the rock and roll pageant. She wins a queen award. That’s pretty much all on that front.

Honey Boo Boo is a quote machine as usual. A sampling:

‘”When my belly hurts, it’s usually gas or too many chicken nuggets.”

“I am not ready for Kaitlyn to come out. Going to smell like poo when she poops.”

“I hope I don’t see a bunch of wedgies at the water park. Vajiggle jaggle’s going to be hanging out though.”

“ignorant southern hillbillies”?? Ignorant and hillbilly maybe, but I’m southern and very well educated and these people disgust me! Being southern doesn’t make you ignorant, lack of knowledge or common sense makes you ignorant. These people are trash and getting publicity and fame for it! Sick sick sick!!!!!!

@Heather you aren’t that educated b/c if you read my post i said this family is:
1. Southern
2. Ignorant
3. Hillbilly

I am correct on all counts. I wasn’t making a generalization about ALL southerners being ignorant. However, if you look at where Georgia and most southern states rank educationally one could make a case regarding southerners. I have lived all over the country and find the south to be the most umm….”different”. just sayin’

Yep, they’re fat and crude (some of it has gotta be staged), but “Honey Boo Boo” is always laughing and happy. Both her and her mom seem a lot happier and grounded than the other pagaent moms and families shown no TLC. Love the kid and mom and the fact that they don’t take themselves too seriously.

Guess who won’t put their name when they say something about the SOUTH!! If you don’t like it here with us Hillbillies then LEAVE!!! I have lived all over the world and LOVE the South!! The most friendly, loving people are from the south!!! Up north with the Yam Dankies it was horrible and on the west coast it was even worse!!! GO Back to where you came from. At least Alana is loved and her parents probably spend more quality time making memories than most. Quit hating on them!! At least he has a job and in case you didn’t realize it Alana is a very happy, bright child!!!

A hit show apparently…life in these wretched United States 2012. This little redneck talks like a black soul sista from what I’ve seen, which was just out of curiosity to see just how bad it could be. I wasn’t disappointed.

Motorcross brought up race – great.

*If* they were black, there would be 357 comments stating that this one show and one cast is a reflection of “black america” – - – check any blogs on the Real Housewives of Atlanta or any of those other garbage shows to get a feel for that. Since she’s white, we don’t use the broad brush to paint the entire race based on one show. Must be nice…

The show is a hit just like the idiots on Jersey Shore… etc. It is because a lot are fasinated by how people live..bottom line. It is the top show on TLC and the Little People, Duggers, Conjoined Twins, Strange Addictions, etc.. all are just curious shows of how people live. I love the show and this little girl is indeed a quick witted, actually quite smart 6 yr. old who yes this family has a lotta love and because they live simple and the only way they know..I would rather watch this family than the phoney Bachelorette. They are real and doesn’t matter whether they live in the South, North, East, or West… there are rednecks in every state! Call em’ what you may.. but obviously more people enjoy watching than not. They should be laughing all the way to the bank.. but my guess is the money is not as attractive to them as much as the fun they are having as a family. Get a life you snobs.

Name (required)…The only difference in South Boston, South Statesboro, East LA, Upstate NY, North Texas, east Alabama, North Florida, Southern Illinois, is the accent. I too travel all over the country and I am also a southerner. I have been to south Boston and its the same culture that is in the N GA mountains, teenage pregnancy, wal mart, and ignorance passed down through the generations. It has nothing to do with being southern. These Honey boo boo people should be executed though.

Haters. Get over yourselves. You want high end entertainment go elsewhere. This is a funny entertaining show – millions watch those tacky Kardashians yet you disrespect this show. Give these people a break- I’m just tickled pink that they are making money off this. Ratings higher than the Republican Convention…you have to take a least some pause with that factoid. I love America.
I find it hillarious how many of you say you won’t watch this show yet you will spend time posting about it…really???

If you pay attention, you can that little girl is VERY bright, has an excellent vocabulary, quite a personality, and is very much loved. If you REALLY pay attention, you can see that the rest of the family also appears to be bright and much more intelligent than TLC wants to portray (otherwise, no show, right?). Also, they are definitely more real and clearly a close family unit. I think that is partly what draws people in – not like the fake Kate Gosselin who thought she was a movie star, for example. I hope this family has excellent representation and is laughing all the way to the bank.

All it does is make “CHILDREN” look like adult Ho’s. Let children vw children and let them grow up with a sense of self not a sense of if i don’t look good i am bad. This show is WRONG AND SHOULD BE BANNED!!!

They do seem truly happy and seem to love one another. Its strange, sure, but it is sweet in (or in this case) out the end. Most families are in different rooms watching tv shows about families like this. At least they are together, right?

I watched for the first time and was actually surprised at many things. How really ordinary they are when you watch the show and get past the freaky toddler and tiara part. Mama has Honey Boo Boo say please and thank you to the dress shop lady. Stop right there and see how many other “cultured” tv kids do this?

Yes, they set her up with a squealing pig in the episode I saw, she brought it into the dress shop for a dress to match HBBs. Probably a set up by the producer, but still good for laughs. The thing that made me realize this little kid is pretty smart was her response to the shop owner’s “no pigs allowed” comment… “You don’t have a sign on the door saying no pigs allowed.” Hilarious. And quite a sharp wit at that.

Over the top for sure. I am sure the cameramen and producers are staging stuff that makes them a little more outlandish and are editing the juiciest bits, but all in all, a good family. Very rough and country, but good people. And has been said before, a lot more appealing than fake Jersey or California wanna be stars.
