TMZ: Katy Perry turned down ‘Idol’ and $20 million

Katy Perry nixed an "Idol" judge gig, according to TMZ. CREDIT: AP

TMZ isn’t always accurate but this report sounds plausible: Katy Perry turned down a $20 million one year offer to be on “Idol.”

She’s one of the biggest current pop stars with a string of hits under her belt. Why wouldn’t “Idol” want her? But Perry obviously has plenty of other options to keep her career aloft. “Idol” is not one she is going to consider.

That $20 million would be $2 million more than what Mariah Carey is reportedly getting paid.

- And in other TMZ-related “Idol” news, liar/ousted “Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones met up with his buddies on tour. For some reason, I don’t care.

- Phillip Phillips wins our “Best of the Big A” favorite Georgia reality star. If you want to see Phillips live for free Saturday, Sept. 1, he’ll be at Centennial Olympic Park from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m.

- The Republican National Convention entertainment includes Danny Gokey and Ayla Brown (whose Dad is a Senator from Massachusetts) on Wednesday and Taylor Hicks on Thursday.

- Mandisa, who has done very well for herself on the Christian pop charts, was on “Good Morning America” this morning chronicling her 120-pound weight loss.

Thanks Rodney. I’m more interested in who Idol gets than in who they courted.

Thanks for the new thread, Rodney.

Mandisa looks good and I hope she has continuing success with her weight loss and her music career.

Back for a late lunch, I wonder if The Voice will have anyone who can cook, like Skylar or Lauren.

I agree that Idol appears desperate to stay relevant in chasing fame names, in a now crowded field of singing or music talent shows. I’ve seen some of the Carson Daly shows highlighting various bands around the country – shown late at night, “The Next” by CW.

Now Voice & X-Factor are gearing-up to try to become more desirable with tweaks to their show format.

Adam Levine made some comments indicating that the Judges or the show can’t really turn contestants into big stars, it takes a lot of big breaks for that to happen, lucky turns and steadfast dedication by the performer to reach that higher level.

Getting the right song at the right time, with the right promotional gears in place, is a big part of it. But even then, you still need a certain personna for your type of music, and have a certain appeal – which often, but not always, includes attractive, physically fit and a driving love for music and performing. Simon called it the X-Factor.

Katy Perry doesn’t need Idol at this point in her career. Randy will stay around in a mentor role to help guide and support Mariah, as he is her manager. If they actually dry the ink on Nickie Minaj, I think the talk of Kanye West and Diddy will subside. Mariah is pushing to add Lenny Kravitz and I think TPTB really will go more toward (1.) Enrique or (2.) Nick Jonas – but there are hurdles to cross in both of those deals.

Since we always do movie reviews here, I just saw Obama 2016. All I have to say is “Wow!”. I watch a lot of news and have been reading a lot on the Internet, articles and blogs, etc. when you see it all put together like that it is really eye opening. Anyone interested in voting this fall, or interested in our country at all should go see it. Afternoon showing for $5. Not too bad for a movie these days. Really interesting movie. Without getting political at all. Everyone should see that movie regardless of political beliefs.

They should be on Hell’s Kitchen.

Thanks bknsty14, but for me Obama 2016 is the same as Romeny 2016 which is the same as Bush 2016.

I don’t blame Katy Perry for turning down Idol. It’s possible that she too may have seen the writing on the wall, when it comes to Idol’s long-term future. Again… Some have speculated season 12 of Idol possibly being its last… and Fox still has yet to make its formal announcement on who’ll be sitting next to Mariah Carey on the judge’s panal.

bknsty14, Everybody doesn’t need to be told what to think. For those that do there’s always Fox News, MSNBC, and the movie that you are pushing.

Back to American Idol, I’d be surprised if the final panel isn’t Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Enrique Iglesias. It’s true that this panel would be a desperate attempt to try and remain relevant, but that’s what American Idol needs. It’s still the number one non sports show, but it needs something that will make people think that it is must see television. The show has fallen into a boring pattern, and hopefully this group can shake things up.

I love the way people keep calling the #1 rated prime time show “desperate”. It could lose another 25% of its audience and still be in the top 10.

I don’t know who Katy Perry is or what she does, but I’d be interested in switching to whatever job she currently has. I studied hard, got good grades, and finished two degrees, yet I have not had any $20 million offers. Where do I apply?

Katy tured them don because she values her current career more as the sinking ship that is AI would only destroy it. If you wanna fix Idol, get rid of all the fluff, be serious about the talent, refine and legitimize the voting process (instead of always having to boast about the x million more votes this week) and keep people like Bieber and Perez Hilton as far away as possble……

Annie. Read my comment. I never once said people need to be told what to think. I just said it was a good movie that makes you think. And people on this blog are always talking about movies. I just happened to see this one and left a comment about it. See it or don’t. I really don’t care what you do. Everyone i know said Dark Knight was good. They all told me I should go see it, and I didn’t get mad at them for telling me I should go see it. You’re apparently wound a little too tight. NO MORE MOVIE REVIEWS/SUGGESTIONS!!! YOU MAY OFFEND OR UPSET ANNIE!!!

“I don’t blame Katy Perry for turning down Idol. It’s possible that she too may have seen the writing on the wall, when it comes to Idol’s long-term future.” – Eric, 4:56pm

Some people seem to have a problem with reading comprehension. It plainly states that the offer to Katy was for a 1-year deal – so WTF would Idol’s “long-term future” matter to her??

“Some have speculated season 12 of Idol possibly being its last… ” …Yeah, but only those who don’t have a clue how TV business works! Idol would have to completely tank in the ratings this coming season (meaning, rating lower than The Voice and X-Factor) for Fox to not renew it.

We’ve been over this all before. Dear Trolls, try to keep up.

I would have loved to see Katy Perry on the panel since she was so great as a guest audition judge. But I commented long ago that I doubt she would accept any offer from AI since her career is at the top right now.

Our loss, panel-wise.

Katy Perry’s career is at a peak so I understand her turning down the show. J-Lo, Paula and a few others were on a downward cycle and got a boost from Idol. Honestly Katy would be better served if she were going to do a show to go on X-Factor. She seems more likely to want to be hands on with the contestants.

Coming on the ‘X Factor’: Nick Jonas hooks-up With Demi Lovato for Judge’s House Round – per THR – so Nick will just guest-in on one episode at the house.

Lovato is rumored to be mentoring solo singers ages 12 to 16, Britney Spears possibly the 17 to 24 age groups, Reid maybe the 25 and over and Cowell might do the groups??. Possibly looking for the next One Direction boy band. All of this format is still speculation at this point.

Lovato was involved with the Jonas Brothers in a Camp Rock movie and also toured with the group.

The X-Factor premiere is on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Here’s a link to some recent Urban – Minaj news that tells an approximate money deal. There’s also an explicit Minaj music video if you scroll down a little. Should be “R’” rated, so don’t click on it at work or with any youth in earshot. The minimum age at Idol is 15, so parents may want to cover this video with their 15/16 year-olds as they try-out for the show. Got to get them into the right attitude.

1) “Without getting political at all. Everyone should see that movie regardless of political beliefs.” Pull the other one. It’s a Dinesh D’Souza film, for heaven’s sake. Congrats to the conservatives for getting their documentary into the theatres during their convention, but don’t pretend it’s nonpartisan.

2) I don’t know about this Mariah Carey-Nicky Minaj-Keith Urban proposal. That is… just *weird*. My prediction: Ryan Seacrest’s role just got even *more* pivotal. I would prefer to see Randy staying on the judges’ panel for two reasons: One, that crew needs the institutional experience. Two, leave Jimmy as the *only* mentor, and keep his comments on results night. It made results night worth watching, and it had an interesting “how accurate were his predictions?” feel.

Noname

I agree about Jimmy, he has more insight then the judges do and is spot on for the most part. I enjoy listening to Jimmy, and Ryan should have a bigger role. I would like to see Randy go away, they could replace him with 2 buttons. One button says dude, and the other says phonebook.

Leave it to a spineless troll like noname to write something with the nickname Noname. Spreading propaganda? Pretty sure what I did was say I saw a movie and thought it was good and recommended it to a group of people that I’ve been talking to for the last 6 months. If you don’t want to see it don’t. If you’ll notice, I never once gave a political view, just said it’s an eye opening movie, which after seeing, I could go out in November and vote for Obama. You just don’t know because I never said which side I was on either way. As a matter of fact I ended my comment by saying, “Everyone should see that movie regardless of political beliefs.” Reading and comprehension are two completely different things that apparently a lot of people who drop by here once in a while have yet to grasp. And, since you had to ask what that was doing on an American Idol blog, I’m going to go ahead and assume, Noname, that you don’t visit here very often or you would know that there is a lot more discussed on here than just American Idol. I was going to go see Hit and Run later this week. I won’t tell anyone what I think about it because it may offend some people and my new understanding is that we can talk about American Idol and only American Idol now.

Walking Dead viewers: Don’t know if you’ve heard this or not but the guy who plays Hershel was arrested for DUI in my little community. My favorite line in the article about his arrest is that after failing the field sobriety test, he complained that the road was too slanted and could he take the test by doing a few yoga moves. LOL!

Here’s another movie review (even though I’ve not seen it): On our company movie outing Friday, 4 guys saw “Hit & Run” – nobody really liked it. They all agreed it had a few hilarious moments, mostly what you see in the TV ads, and the rest was “not very funny”. But, each to his own.

Saw that Deirdre – at least, if he gets any jail time, Herschel’s character can sorta be worked around for a few episodes! Glad it wasn’t Rick!!!!!

Pitchy and K&CF: Tonight is the season ender for “PLL’s” – I’m already in a funk over losing “Closer” and season ender of “Falling Skies” – what, oh what, will I watch now??!! At least “Castle” and “Revenge” seasons start up in 4 weeks. I have to say, “PLL;s” was really good this year – better than last.
