Katy Perry nixed an "Idol" judge gig, according to TMZ. CREDIT: AP
TMZ isn’t always accurate but this report sounds plausible: Katy Perry turned down a $20 million one year offer to be on “Idol.”
She’s one of the biggest current pop stars with a string of hits under her belt. Why wouldn’t “Idol” want her? But Perry obviously has plenty of other options to keep her career aloft. “Idol” is not one she is going to consider.
That $20 million would be $2 million more than what Mariah Carey is reportedly getting paid.
- And in other TMZ-related “Idol” news, liar/ousted “Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones met up with his buddies on tour. For some reason, I don’t care.
- Phillip Phillips wins our “Best of the Big A” favorite Georgia reality star. If you want to see Phillips live for free Saturday, Sept. 1, he’ll be at Centennial Olympic Park from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m.
- The Republican National Convention entertainment includes Danny Gokey and Ayla Brown (whose Dad is a Senator from Massachusetts) on Wednesday and Taylor Hicks on Thursday.
- Mandisa, who has done very well for herself on the Christian pop charts, was on “Good Morning America” this morning chronicling her 120-pound weight loss.

bknsty14, it would be pretty boring around here if all we did was discuss Idol. Heck, we’d spend all summer speculating who would be the new judges. Imagine the futility of that exercise?

What up, G – I haven’t seen it to answer your question, though I have heard that it’s very good and well done. I believe it’s the highest grossing political documentary of all time. I could be wrong about that though. God knows I’ve been wrong many times before. (Can I say God or is that too religious for the trolls?) The only Michael Moore movie I’ve seen is Bowling for Columbine, and that was a very good, very well done movie. I would be willing to see it though. I can be very open-minded, and am willing to watch almost any movie.

JT – I agree with you on two things. I , nor anyone else for that matter, should never have an opinion. And the constant Idol judge speculation is enough to make you sick at times. When it seems that everyone in the entertainment business has been considered for the job, it almost makes you think that even they have no idea what they want in a judge. Hope they get it all over with soon.

Here’s another recent Nickie Minaj video. Caution – explicit language. Is this what Idol wants to promote now?

I haven’t heard much of her other songs, but I’m a fan of Nicki’s “Starships”. She can be profane, but that didn’t stop Idol from getting Steven Tyler.

Kryptonite, could we just drop the political stuff…especially the childish part of it. No one is talking politics here. A movie that is in fairly wide release was reviewed. A political philosophy was not discussed. There are plenty of blogs filled with discussions where you can make a fool of yourself along with all the other issue-lacking name callers.

Wow, Kryptonite, the amount of thoughtful deliberation, research and logic that went into that response defies words.
Thanks to you, I know who I’m voting for in November!

The “Obama bashing is getting old”? Well don’t vote for him then! Clinton and Bush were bashed for a full 8 years, but if bashing Obama for 4 is too much then there is a simple solution.

Speaking of bashing…………..pp lucked his way to platinum, huh? Every pony has at least one trick. D, that link doesn’t work on my computer for some reason. It must be that new virus software I have called “ppware”. It protects my computer from bad wgwg viruses. Sorry………..(>!<)

Wow, haven’t been able to catch up since Saturday… oh my. I see why we have the rule here not to discuss politics! Poor Bknsty14 I see has taken the brunt of it (for what seemed to me to be a simple movie opinion!
Hang in there Bk.)
I wish Katy hadn’t turned Idol down… but whoever said she doesn’t need them was right. She’s at the top of her career. Idol needed HER… would’ve been a coup to get her. Shame, too, because she would’ve been good.
I saw little Rachael Crow from X Factor Saturday on Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the US Open… and you know, I really liked her on XF, but on Sat my only thought was “meh”. She sounded…. OK. I thought I remembered her having a pretty voice on the show, but it is now all scrape-y and scratchy. (It’s like they Katharine McPhee’d her…. remember how Kat’s first CD had hardly anything remaining of her lovely voice that took her so far on the show… the CD had only hoarse “scratchy” sounding songs.) Anyway, I wish Rachael well… she seemed to be having a blast… but I kind of doubt I’ll be buying her music.
It was interesting to see the little “Call Me Maybe” girl sing a few songs live! She’s adorable, and can actually sing! It was nice to see a young popular singer who uses their actual voice and doesn’t have to be auto-tuned.
Oh, and Welcome Back, Rickster! I’m so sorry about your mom. Should’ve told you that last week. Darn work, keeping me off the blog. But I am glad you found a job so quickly…. hope you’re liking it pretty well!

Oh yeah, G and D…. I saw that PP was on Today, but chose to skip his performance. (G, can I borrow that antiWGWG software of yours?
)
All kidding aside, I do think that the Olympics, coupled with the catchy choir-sung refrain of the song itself (not PP’s singing of it) are what made the song do so well. PP really lucked out with the gymnastics broadcasts using it so heavily. I will always stand by my view that he is cute, sweet and charismatic, but just not much of a singer….

The Olympics certainly helped him, and don’t discount the power of having it in a commercial. I bought Alex Clare’s “Too close” based on it being in a Windows Explorer ad.

One thing I’ve forgotten to mention… while I was inactive, we watched a LOT of the Andy Griffith Show.
We were watching one episode called “Andy The Matchmaker.”
Andy was strumming his guitar on the front porch talking to Barney, and he suggested that Andy & Helen and Barney and a woman in which Barney was interested (pre-Thelma Lou) go to the picture show, and “after the picture show we can go over to the Snappy Lunch to get something to eat.”
So I finally got to see the episode that made the Snappy Lunch (at which I’ve eaten) the only real-life establishment mentioned on the Andy Griffith Show.

K&CF & Pitchy: Wow – “PLL’s” was on fire last night! In case you haven’t watched it yet, the promised “betrayal” – ouch! But, I hate to be left for months with a cliff hanger. Damn that original “Dallas” for creating them with “who shot JR”. Same situation with “Falling Skies”.
The Halloween previews looks pretty good, but I’d rather just continue last nights show!

Speaking of cliffhangers…True Blood ended with a major one.
Hubby and I are going to see Lawless. He’s been wanting to see it ever since the making of the movie impeded his progress down to our property.
