CNN’s poor choice of song (’Stupid Girls’) introducing Sarah Palin & Chick-fil-A controversy

CNN apologized for playing Pink’s song “Stupid Girls” as an intro Sunday into a segment about Sarah Palin visiting a Chick-fil-A outside Houston.

“The music selection was a poor choice and was not intended to be linked to any news story,” a CNN spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “We regret any perception that they were planned together.”

According to Politico, she told a crowd: “We drive by a Chick-fil-A. We don’t have that in Alaska. Love me some Chick-fil-A. So we’ll go there, Jason, on the way, OK?” (She was referencing an aide Jason Recher.)

Later, she  Tweeted a photo of her and her husband Todd with some Chick-fil-A sandwiches, noting: “Stopped by Chick-fil-A in the Woodlands to support a great business.”

The Atlanta-based restaurant chain after Chik-fil-A president Dan Cathy made comments a few weeks back construed by gay rights activists as anti-gay marriage by saying he supports the “biblical definition of the family unit… We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

This led to a maelstrom of controversy for and against the chain. Supporters are pushing an appreciation day on Wednesday while opponents are promoting a “kiss in” Friday.

Here’s the 2006 hit song by Pink, in case you don’t recall:

CNN is going over the cliff because they decided to go left. Then they got a bunch of catty chicks for the AM shows and it’s clear these babes are right out of the MILF underwear catalog and not journalists. I could fix CNN in tens seconds — stop the left agenda. Be hard hitting to both sides. Tell the truth. Do some real research.

The public is crying out for real even handedness, but fournalism today gets its cue from the 70’s movie Network!

Retiring lawmaker Gary Ackerman said it best: Ackerman put it well: “We now give broadcast licenses to philosophies instead of people. People get confused and think there is no difference between news and entertainment. People who project themselves as journalists on television don’t know the first thing about journalism. They are just there stirring up a hockey game.”

alphadig and creative, so it would be OK if Michelle Obama was introduced to Santana’s “Black Magic Woman”? It’s actually a very empowering song for women….

While I’m no fan of Sarah Palin (and I do believe she lacks the necessary intelligence for consideration for major national office) and I don’t believe that Obama or CNN are ‘Communist’, there is still absolutely no excuse for a real news outlet to imploy their opinions on the people they are about to feature on their air through their song choice. IF this had been on one of many commentary shows, fine, no problem. But since this was included in a normal newscast, it’s absolutely unacceptable. And don’t insult the intelligence of every person w/ a brain and try to say that there was no ‘deeper’ meaning to the song choice. If you’re going to apologize, own your mistake and apologize. Don’t make it worse by lying about it.

Keith @ 12:43pm “I watch CNN everyday and night…..you can definately tell the right wing replys in the above posts. As is fox news wouldn’t hasnt done the same thing to any and every one on the left”

I’ll ignore the typos, but unless you can provide an example of a similar Fox programming choice (on a regular newscast, not a commentary show) then your premise is spurious and lazy.

CNN is pathetic. I’m sure there is a blue state somewhere that would love to have them. The only good thing about having the people that work and follow them here is their vote will never mean anything. Looking forward to Wednesday at Chick-fil-A.

CNN just keeps driving those nails in their coffin one at a time. Only about two more to go. BAM, BAM, BAM, somebody knew what they were doing. They had to hunt for that song. Let’s see now, maybe Keith Olbermann could buy them out with some of Al Gore’s money. There’s your perfect fit!

Mr.Cathy did not say that he discriminates against gays (or anyone else) in his company, either employees or customers. He merely excercised his free speech rights to express his opinion.

Most or all Chick-Fil-A retail locations are owner operated franchises, and the owners and employees are people from all walks of life, all ethnic groups, etc.

So if the stupid liberal haters want to boycott Chik-Fil-A retail locations, well, that’s pretty much a typical stupid knee-jerk liberal reaction, isn’t it?

Aug 1 is my mom’s birthday, and she has asked me to take her to Chik-Fil-A for lunch. We’re looking forward to it.

Sorry she is. I am conservative (well fiscally that is) second post I am saying if she had half a brain she would understand the song and put it back in CNNs face. But she IS dumb and she WONT do that. As far as black magic woman goes, I think it is perfectly acceptable to play for Michelle Obama. “CNN is going over the cliff because they decided to go left.”

That is the biggest piece of BS I have seen all day, and trust me there is a bunch of BS on this blog. What you said does not even make sense. If you simply look at the programming and the great lengths they went to enetrtain the right wind viewpoints, nothing could be more obvious. CNN WENT “RIGHT” and tried to become Fox Light, sans the overt hyperbole and outright lies, You have FOX on the hard right, MSNBC on the hard left, and CNN trying to play both ends against the middle and FAILING because the country is so hopelessly polarized. Anyone with half a shred of intelligence can come to that conclusion. You are obviously not one of those people.

And the idiots at CNN are scratching their heads (and getting funny sounds from that) about why they are falling like a lead balloon in the cable news ratings? Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin has had to fight for herself since both the ACLU (”All Communists Love Us”) and NOW (National Association of Wymmyn) have not attempted to come to her defense when she has been and continues to be slandered. But, the commies and lesbos apparently have other fish to fry.

I wonder how many of the posters and critics actually listened to the lyrics rather than the title. The song is about female empowerment and not making “stupid” choices to follow along with the crowd. Of course, don’t tell me for one minute that Palin didn’t pick Chik-fil-a for any reason other than to pander to the base.
