Style Network launching ‘Big Rich Georgia’ out of Buckhead for 2013

"Big Rich Texas" at Style Network is leading to a spinoff in Georgia.

"Big Rich Texas" at Style Network is leading to a spinoff in Georgia.

We know them affectionately as “Buckhead Betties.” They are wealthy women who lunch and organize big charity functions. The local play “Peachtree Battle” has gently mocked them over the past decade. HBO considered a pilot for a scripted show about them a few years back that never got off the ground.

But Style Network will take them on in a new reality series it just announced called “Big Rich Georgia,” set to air in 2013. The press release provides this descriptive:

The latest installment of the franchise, “Big Rich Georgia” enters the exclusive world of Buckhead Country Club, where outrageously wealthy mothers and daughters do whatever it takes to stay on top of the social scene and in control of the action. It’s hot, it’s humid, and it’s full of drama.

The big stickler for me: what the heck is Buckhead Country Club? There is no such thing. The publicist did not know but will check later today to get me the actual name of the country club in question. The only real country club in the confines of Buckhead is Cherokee Town & Country Club and the woman who answered the phone there confirmed it’s definitely not them.

Someone below says it’s actually being shot in Roswell at the Brookfield Country Club, 20 miles from Buckhead proper. I’m awaiting a call back from them to confirm.

“Big Rich Georgia” is a spin-off of its hit show “Big Rich Texas,” which is about high-society women in Dallas. I am not clear either whether the Georgia version has been cast yet.

These types of shows are basically knockoffs of the “Real Housewives” model.  And many folks over the years have wondered why someone from Buckhead has never been cast on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” For better or worse, here’s a chance for Buckhead Betties to get some TV love.

The reason they haven’t been cast for the RHOA is because they don’t fit the stereotype that Bravo wanted to feed for their show. (read: Nene Leakes)

Fact is Bravo cast a bunch of women who think they are rich and act like they are from the streets. A great misrepresentation of our city and our culture. It’s a shame that the rest of the world thinks Atlanta women act like Kim Z. Trash.

If Sally Danner isn’t on the show then it can’t be real. She is on EVERY Society page in some photo since 1970.

Why are the television Gods punishing the public with the plethora of undesired toxic reality shows?

I wish all of the reality ilk would vanish.

Big Rich Texas is about women at a very low end semi-private club in Dallas, so I am sure the one taping here will be along the same lines. The show will do it’s best, as does BRT, to make us all look like a bunch of bumbling idiots. GREAT! Why do people watch this crap?

I drive down Lake Forrest and there is a sign right at Chastain Park that says BUCKHEAD CITY LIMITS.

In 2008, a newsletter [10] by the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation began circulating that proposed the secession of Buckhead into its own city after more than 50 years as part of Atlanta. This came on the heels of neighboring Sandy Springs, which finally became a city in late 2005 after a 30-year struggle to incorporate, and which triggered other such incorporations in metro Atlanta’s northern suburbs. Like those cities, the argument to create a city of Buckhead is based on the desire for more local control and lower taxes.

We can’t wait to see the episode where several Major Old Atlanta Buckhead Betties’ 40 something year old sons play golf at the esteemed Piedmont Driving Club neeked, pick up golf balls with their butt cheeks and disrupt an entire wedding rehearsal dinner. This will be a fantastic episode. Maybe the real characters can play themselves???

So glad you’re not really claiming Buckhead is a city, SMART. And what does a mailing address have to do with anything? You can live in DeKalb County near Buckhead and have an Atlanta mailing address, but you ain’t in Buckhead. I don’t care what the signs say about ‘Buckhead Community’.

Theron: You really think all the Ptree Battle area is in Buckhead? I might agree with Ptree Battle Shopping Center on Peachtree Rd. but that’s pushing the limits of the historical concept of Buckhead. It’s spreading because of the cachet, but it’s only wishful thinking on the part of those ‘just outside’. There’s ‘IB’ and there’s ‘OB’.

Well thanks to the tax incentivies for the Entertainment Industry these types of shows will inevitably come to Georgia, for every big hollywood production that’s chasing lower production costs in the state you will have a dozen Big Rich Georgia’s Love and Hip Hop, Real Housewives etc. Oh and BTWthe country club in Big Rich Texas is actually in Fort Worth just in a run of the mill middle class neighborhood. But with all these docu-dramas they want to glam everything up.

Thank you, Kev! I stumbled across the “REAL” Buckhead, 60 miles east of Atlanta, a few years back. They have an incredible art museum there, too. Who knew?

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is located at 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, GA 30625; 706-342-7557. STMA is 60 miles east of Atlanta; 5 miles southeast of Madison. From I-20 take Exit 121, turn south to stop sign. Right on Bethany Road for 1 mile to museum.

The filming of this show is at Brookfield Country Club in ROSWELL which announced in its monthly newletters that the filming was happening. They even stated that the Country club was having its name changed and that they considered the show a “comedy” AGAIN this show has NOTHING to do with Buckhead and the country club itself is OLD and the homes not EXPENSIVE compared to REAL country clubs like Country Club of the South, St Ives, and more. The people from this club are NOT part of the Atlanta scene neither are its cast.

Unfortunately, this disaster will probably feature 4 or 5 uhummm…”inner city” turned Buckhead apartment living woman with 3 children from 3 different guys. And to top it off, odds are the people they select moved to Atlanta from somewhere in the northeast or Detroit becuase they heard it was the place to be…….. The real Buckhead ‘blueblood’ family wouldn’t touch this show with a 20 foot pole. The money and short lived ‘fame’ wouldn’t attract them at all. It is interesting that there are not BUCKHEAD BETTIES in the Bravo Show Real Housewives of Atlanta. Instead they went for an African American based show of the northern suburbs with women living in Alpharetta and Roswell. Funny, it doesnt represent the city of Atlanta..and anyone Ive known or met living in the CITY and not the burbs. Does anyone watch Style anyway
