Style Network launching ‘Big Rich Georgia’ out of Buckhead for 2013

"Big Rich Texas" at Style Network is leading to a spinoff in Georgia.

"Big Rich Texas" at Style Network is leading to a spinoff in Georgia.

We know them affectionately as “Buckhead Betties.” They are wealthy women who lunch and organize big charity functions. The local play “Peachtree Battle” has gently mocked them over the past decade. HBO considered a pilot for a scripted show about them a few years back that never got off the ground.

But Style Network will take them on in a new reality series it just announced called “Big Rich Georgia,” set to air in 2013. The press release provides this descriptive:

The latest installment of the franchise, “Big Rich Georgia” enters the exclusive world of Buckhead Country Club, where outrageously wealthy mothers and daughters do whatever it takes to stay on top of the social scene and in control of the action. It’s hot, it’s humid, and it’s full of drama.

The big stickler for me: what the heck is Buckhead Country Club? There is no such thing. The publicist did not know but will check later today to get me the actual name of the country club in question. The only real country club in the confines of Buckhead is Cherokee Town & Country Club and the woman who answered the phone there confirmed it’s definitely not them.

Someone below says it’s actually being shot in Roswell at the Brookfield Country Club, 20 miles from Buckhead proper. I’m awaiting a call back from them to confirm.

“Big Rich Georgia” is a spin-off of its hit show “Big Rich Texas,” which is about high-society women in Dallas. I am not clear either whether the Georgia version has been cast yet.

These types of shows are basically knockoffs of the “Real Housewives” model.  And many folks over the years have wondered why someone from Buckhead has never been cast on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” For better or worse, here’s a chance for Buckhead Betties to get some TV love.

The Driving Club would never allow a realityshow on its premises.

@ Mercedes S.

Incidentally, the Driving Club would also never allow someone named “Mercedes” on its premises.

Right, the only real Buckhead women that will do this are either “nouveau riche” or a part of the current “look at me, me, me and put me on reality tv for 15 minutes of fame” younger generation.

old buckhead was GREAT...new buckhead sux

If it were real it will only be old money, older, elegant, classy, white women.

Buckhead is another good thing long gone now. And Lenox and Phipps look like a ghetto influx took over on any given day now.

No one that is truly wealthy and has money will do these shows. Certainly not if they come from old money, that’s been passed down.

Will the big blond haired transgender dude from the the Atlanta housewives be on this show? I think his name is Tim, or Kim or something like that.

old buckhead is right, if it were real it would have the old guard money that still lives in buckhead not the “yankee rich and Arabs” that make up buckhead now

Thank you, Kev! I stumbled across the “REAL” Buckhead, 60 miles east of Atlanta, a few years back. They have an incredible art museum there, too. Who knew?

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is located at 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, GA 30625; 706-342-7557. STMA is 60 miles east of Atlanta; 5 miles southeast of Madison. From I-20 take Exit 121, turn south to stop sign. Right on Bethany Road for 1 mile to museum.

The filming of this show is at Brookfield Country Club in ROSWELL which announced in its monthly newletters that the filming was happening. They even stated that the Country club was having its name changed and that they considered the show a “comedy” AGAIN this show has NOTHING to do with Buckhead and the country club itself is OLD and the homes not EXPENSIVE compared to REAL country clubs like Country Club of the South, St Ives, and more. The people from this club are NOT part of the Atlanta scene neither are its cast.

JB from East Point and Guest, at least attend a debutante ball or wedding reception at the Driving Club so you know whereof you speak! Your ignorance is sad.

Unfortunately, this disaster will probably feature 4 or 5 uhummm…”inner city” turned Buckhead apartment living woman with 3 children from 3 different guys. And to top it off, odds are the people they select moved to Atlanta from somewhere in the northeast or Detroit becuase they heard it was the place to be…….. The real Buckhead ‘blueblood’ family wouldn’t touch this show with a 20 foot pole. The money and short lived ‘fame’ wouldn’t attract them at all. What’s that ticking noise I keep hearing???…….oh, it’s the end of society as we once knew it…….

It is interesting that there are not BUCKHEAD BETTIES in the Bravo Show Real Housewives of Atlanta. Instead they went for an African American based show of the northern suburbs with women living in Alpharetta and Roswell. Funny, it doesnt represent the city of Atlanta..and anyone Ive known or met living in the CITY and not the burbs. Does anyone watch Style anyway
