Stacey Elgin, formerly of WAGA-TV, joins WXIA-TV for Olympics coverage

424015_390202777672967_1853633263_nStacey Elgin, who was let go last year from Fox 5 (WAGA-TV) as the Road Warrior on “Good Day Atlanta,” has nabbed a new gig as an Olympics correspondent for 11 Alive (WXIA-TV) – at least locally.

The Olympics begin Friday in London and will air on NBC and affiliated networks.

Elgin broke the news on her personal Facebook page:

I’m looking forward to a busy week ahead! Probably a little anxious too since I’m starting a new job, going back on air… and leaving the boys. That’s right… I will be starting at WXIA 11Alive this week for their Olympics coverage! I’m so excited for this opportunity! Be sure to tune in. I’ll have regular updates here as well .. so stay close! (oh… no… I’m not going to London) Go Team USA!

She had twins last December. She was let go from WAGA-TV last September.

This appears to be a temporary job but naturally, if she does a good job and the money’s there, she could certainly latch onto a full-time job down the road.

The sentence should read, “She was let go from WAGA-TV last September.”

I hope that 11Alive could and might be considering hiring her full-time as reporter. I could see 11Alive making some additional changes.

11 airing “Today In Atlanta” morning newscast weekdays 4:30-7AM on 11Alive, and 7-9AM on MyATL. “Atlanta & Company” being shortened to half-hour, and airing at 12:30PM, after Noon newscast. 11 bringing back 5PM newscast, and retiring 7PM newsast. 11 also expanding 10PM newscast on MyATL to one hour (Monday-Friday only). Maybe Gannett launching NBC Nonstop sub-channel on its NBC affiliates.

I could picture several anchor changes as well. Karyn Greer & Ted Hall staying on morning news. DeMarco Morgn and Valerie Hoff doing 10PM news on MyATL. Melissa Long co-ancoring weekend evening news with Keith Whitney. Jennifer Leslie doing weekend morning news. Brenda Wood getting new co-anchor on 5, 6, & 11PM news… I could picture her and former WSB-TV anchor John Alston working great together.

I could also picture Gannett rolling out a new graphics package… and maybe the Gannett theme music being retired. 11 getting a new set by Clickspring Designs.

God-awful

Did they let her go because she had kids, or did they let her go because she didn’t fit in with the station’s female roster of overweight black anchors/reporters?

This may be off topic… Tomorrow is Monica’s last day at Channel 2, which many may already be buzzing about.

Back on topic… I hope that Stacey will be a perfect fit for 11.

I could see changes for Eric too. A lobomtomy would be most useful.

INstead of continuing to use “let go” which is totally awkward, why not just say “she was fired.”

I’m very happy for her! She’s great on air and I look forward to watching her again. WAGA loss… WXIA gains!

I seem to have developed tendinitis over the past 48 hours or so. It’s weird because I didn’t have it until I saw this article. Hmm…
