Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" is the best-selling digital single among all "Idol" contestants. CREDIT: AP
Hope you all had a great 4th and Kelly Clarkson received some great news: her single “Stronger” has sold more digital copies than any “Idol” singer’s song: more than 3.5 million copies, exceeding Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” by 1,000 copies.
Naturally, more and more people now buy digital singles today than in 2006, but that’s still an impressive number of copies.
The Hollywood Reporter, which isn’t really known to covering music particularly well, was the source of this information.
How broad was the power of “Stronger”? It was No. 1 on 11 different Billboard charts.
Carrie still has sold more albums to date: 13.2 million vs. 11.6 million for Kelly. But Kelly has sold more than 24.1 million digital songs vs. 22.5 million for Carrie.
- Both Jennifer Hudson and Phillip Phillips performed last night. MJ taped both.
First is Hudson doing her signature “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going”
Then Phillips performed live in D.C. last night for the first time since his surgery. He chose his coronation song “Home.”
- Fox is airing the July 10 MLB All Star Game. Kellie Pickler and Phillip Phillips will perform. David Cook will sing the National Anthem before the Home Run Derby.

Thanks Rodney.
The first is always the best. We might as well have stopped after Season 1.

But Lee would still be working in that paint store and Phil at the pawn shop if idol ended earlier. The music world would have lost 2 wgwg icons of cougar rock.

I hear that Lee’s doing Behr paint commercials. People are willing to pay more to see Behr dry on a wall than listen to Lee sing. Go figure……

Kelly needs to explain that logic to me. Playing an outdoor gig on the 4th, with 100 degree heat index, didn’t kill me, but it definitely didn’t make me stronger.
Aaron Neville lost his label a while back, but just signed with another label. While David Cook, Lee DeWyze, Kellie Pickler may be looking for labels, they could/should get-together and start their own along with some of the other ex-Idols that may have some potential for the future.

Morning!
I watched most of Duets last night. The Standards made it almost tolerable. Enjoyed a couple of the singers. I thought the girl with the yellow dress did an absolutely awful job on Unforgettable. She sounded shaky, seemed to search for the notes and had no connection to the song.
I also hated Georgia On My Mind…love the song hated the performance. You don’t scream that song…it is NOT a power ballad.
Mostly the show was meh for me. Love Kelly, of course. John Legend was great on Unforgettable but Jennifer Nettles seemed off and Robin Thicke is icky.

Morning!
That video did nothing to make me like PP any more than I did on the show. He just leaves me cold. I know that is a minority opinion.
And, D, I could not agree more about Robin Thicke. He IS icky. I have never understood why he was popular in the first place. And, Duets? I could only stand to hang around for two episodes. I have too many other shows for which my time is spoken already.

Harriett……….you are not alone on your “PP” sentiments.
Gotta disagree on Robin Thicke. He’s one of the smoothest r&b singers out.

But, G, there is still a major “ick” factor with him (for me). I cannot stand the way he acts. And, as a lover of r&b, I will take almost anyone else.

Just back from getting my oil changed in my car. To be honest, I don’t like even listening to Robin Thicke. I like R&B but I don’t like him. That smarmy attitude and the skinny little porno mustache give me the creeps.

For me the “ick” factor goes clear back to his dad. Alan passed the “ick” onto his son. Add to that the fact that R&B makes me want to projectile vomit and you can guess that I’m not all that fond of Robin.
Oh and my least favorite fictional historical character: Robin Hood. My least favorite DC Comic sidekick: Robin the Boy Wonder. My least favorite wife of Mike Tyson: Robin Givens. See a patern?
Yeah Robin Thicke has a lot working against him.

That’s a show I haven’t watched, now I know why. Let’s see, my least favorite character in Forrest Gump: Jenny Curran, played by Robin Wright. My least favorite Bee Gee: Robin Gibb (favorite Bee Gee is Barry in case you are wondering). And don’t get me started on Robin the Frog!
So far the only Robin’s I do like are: Robin Williams, but what has he done lately. Also Robyn Rihanna Fenty, and that’s only because she spells it with a Y and not an I. I’ll give a pass to Robin Leach, he’s alright. If Morgan Freeman or the guy from the insurance commercials aren’t available to narrate my life story then maybe Robin Leach could do it. Wait, bump him down below Mike Rowe, yeah he’s fourth in line. This is important stuff folks.

Thanks for stopping by “Killing Time”. Why am I here? Because people like you entertain me. Seriously, goading people like you is cheap entertainment.
Of course, we could discuss a philosophical point that you raised: is it better to live a life that is a black hole or to live a life that is a cyber black hole? If you think your life amounts to more than a black hole I have some bad news for you, so how is it better to have a “life” that is no different than the “life” which you scorn?
JTesla

Of course I would say that my life is simply a black hole, not a cyber black hole. The cyber portion, the only portion you see, is a very small aspect of the whole. It doesn’t infringe on my time with family, friends, hobbies, or responsibilities. As you and I fall into the black hole, a fall that continues until the day of our death, I know that once the fall ends I will slowly but surely be forgotten. I have to wonder if cutting out one minor aspect, this blog, would really make a positive impact? I would say no, that the fall will still occur and one hundred years from now I will not even be thought of… just like you will not be thought of one hundred years from now.
Of course I know that the philosophical discussion is pointless, it is more a discussion with myself. Your real reason for posting and attempting to degrade us was not to be philosophical or even to improve our lives or even to improve your own life. No the real reason for your post was a selfish one, so that you could feel superior and to insult those that you feel are inferior to yourself. Your sense of entitlement and the anonymity of the internet allow you to gain some mental relief or even pleasure at the bullying and mocking of others. Oh well, more time of mine flushed down the cyber black hole, but I’m ok with that.

Haley Rinehart sang on The View today and she was amazing.
Did “Killing” not notice the hour that passed between our last post and his/her post? We’re not exactly having a gab-fest here today. What does he/she think we’re doing when hours pass between posts?
Anyway, seems to me, if he/she knows who the “old reliables” are then he/she has spent a good amount of time here, too.

Yes, Rickster, it was a surprise to me, as well. Last evening they re-ran the first elimination show and I had missed it before, so was watching last night. I had a friend over who does not watch reality tv at all, and I cautioned him to suspend judgement until he had seen Stern in action as a judge. By the time the first thirty minutes passed, the friend observed that I was correct and that HS was the only one who really told it like it is, but was not rude about it. I have actually seen him actually treat some contestants with true kindness.

Deirdre: I’ve been on vaca last week and don’t do computers much at home. And yes, I do watch and really enjoy “Falling Skies” – and last night’s show was really, really good! Learned a lot. D: have you watched it yet? Don’t want to spoil anything.
Expensive vaca: new icemaker in 3 year old top of line fridge: $280; annual Vet bill” $160 (incl a coupon for 10% off!).
Mercedes: don’t remember your review, but I told you I don’t much go in for “quirky” films. However, I saw one that is “quirky done RIGHT”! “Moonrise Kingdom” is my fave movie this year. I LOVED IT! (except for the one canine incident – hated that). Such a lovely, tender, hilarious film. I even liked Bruce Willis (totally unheard of since “Moonlighting” ended) and tolerated Bill Murray (again unheard of since he left SNL). Edward Norton stole the show – just wonderful. And that boy, just loved him. He reminded me of what I’d imagine John Lennon looked and acted like at that age.
“Closer” starts tonight – can’t wait but I’m sad there are only 6 shows.
