Jennifer Hudson will be joining NBC’s “Smash” early next year for the second season for a multi-episode arc, according to deadline.com.
Hudson, who has transcended her time on “Idol” seven years to win an Oscar and Grammy and become a Weight Watchers spokesman, will play Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning stage actress who tangles with the players of “Smash’s” fictional musical “Bombshell.”
She joins regular Katharine McPhee, runner up on “Idol” season five.
The New York Times noted why “Smash” got renewed. It’s overnight ratings were not that good but when you included DVR playback, it’s 18-49 rating was 3.3, tied for best among all 10 p.m. dramas.
Hudson will also be getting a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.
- I am talking to Casey Abrams later today to promote his new album. I’ll also have to ask him about his National Anthem performance last night for the Yankees-Mets game. Things didn’t go too well. You can listen to his album here.

Good for J-Hud. I wonder how many people have hit the “EGOT” quadfecta?

Judge Review of Casey’s performance.
Randy: “Dawg… that was pitchy. Just all over the place. It wasn’t good at all.”
J-Lo: “You know I love you, right? But I don’t think that was the song for you.”
Steven: “That was over the top, man. That was unbelievable. Now, the next time I butcher that song… I can at least say “At least I did better than Casey.”

Eleven official EGOT winners. 14 if you were to count special awards (non-competition based, which are Streisand, Minnelli, & James Earl Jones). Eleven winners are: Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg, and Scott Rudin.

And as soon as I heard “Rockets Red” I stopped listening. That was rough. Good judges save. That could’ve been Pia.

LOL! Poor Casey.
True Blood this season is a little like Game of Thrones. So many stories to follow. But I like it just fine!
EGOT that I know of…Barbra Streisand and Rita Moreno. I think there’s another one. Have to look it up.

Wow! Whoopie, Mike Nichols and Mel Brooks have also won EGOT. Streisand and Liza Minnelli have won honorary awards in one category so count but not as much

Amazing what you can find on Google… just type in EGOT and it’s all there. Audrey Hepburn made the club posthumously.

Venus is now in her 30s and that’s ancient in tennis world. Plus, she has Sjogren’s Syndrome, which apparently impacts her autoimmune system.

I wonder if JHud and Kat will compare Idol notes.

Scott Rudin is one of Hollywood’s most succesful producers. “Moonrise Kingdom”, “Girl With Dragon Tattoo” (US version), “Moneyball”, “True grit”, “The Social Network”, “Julie and Julia” – the list is endless.

Hard to say but I’ve been in a lot of plays and I know that we all talked to each other…frequently. But then, we didn’t have luxury trailers to hide in after each scene.

RoHo don’t be mean – he was very cute and sweet!
Barely here – 22 of our 35 empl’s are at mtg in Amsterdam, and our whole phone system is dead all day. I have the thrill of having a jerry-rigged cell phone that is catching all the calls – tired of saying, “sorry I don’t mean to be rude, but can you just give me you name and ph # – I have two calls waiting”. Five O’clock – HURRY UP!!!!!

I’m here!
With nothing to say.
Much.
Awaiting Rodney’s report from “Anthem” interview.
Wonder what Casey’s explanation/excuse might be.
Flare-up of old illness? Forgot what it was.
Nice of crowd to give him support – maybe because everybody there knew what a mess they would have made of the song.

The anthem is difficult and I admire anyone who can get through it successfully. Forgetting the words? Happens some of the time to the best of them. Hitting bad notes…well, he didn’t win Idol, did he?

Good morning!
Deirdre, there are some talents there, but few and far between. I did not watch last night, since I was watching my Carolina Gamec0cks play in the championship game of the college world series. They lost, but what a ride! Two national championships in a row and playing for a chance at a third. They lost to a great Arizona baseball team. AGT had to wait.

Congrats on another great Gamec0cks’ season Harriett!
Last night’s AGT seemed to focus on the bad rather than the good. Have they not learned a lesson from Idol? I guess the storyline last night was “Who did we get rid of in Vegas”
Harriett

And, that really bothers me about AGT, D. They fly all the folks to Vegas, let them walk around town for a day, and then smash their dreams without even seeing them perform again. That is cruel, IMO.
Thanks, for the congrats. We are very happy with the ride.

For some reason, I got stuck watching bits of AGT. To my surprise, the controversial radio host did really well. But, talent? Who was the guy with the weird eyes? Why had chosen to look like a night monkey?

I think, because the prelim auditions for the judges are in front of a big audience, the judges are influenced by the audience’s reactions to each performer. Then watching the auditions again, they see the error of their ways. X-Factor has the same problem.
We see how Idol judges over-praise a contestant once there’s a live audience. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment with an audience egging you on.

Howard Stern is my favorite judge. He gives honest criticism, straightforward advice and for the truly bad ones, he tells it like it is without being cruel. He actually treats some of the more pitiful acts with kindness.
