WATL-TV (MyAtlTV) is hitting the nostalgia button five decades by bringing back “The Andy Griffith Show” weeknights at 7:30 p.m. starting Monday, June 25.
Small-town sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), his son Opie (Ron Howard), Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) and his sidekick Barney Fife (Don Knotts) are already seen at noon every day on TV Land. Netflix makes the show available to stream for subscribers. And its also on DVD.
But there are still plenty of viewers who don’t mind hanging out with Griffith’s pleasant cast of Mayberry characters at dinner hour when flipping around the dial. The show aired for eight seasons, from 1960 to 1968, always pulling in strong ratings.
“Griffith” was a staple in the early years of WTBS, when it was the first satellite-beamed national network. It has been in steady reruns every since.
WATL is giving Griffith the spot currently held by “Everybody Loves Raymond.” It will follow “Wheel of Fortune.”
The station is clearly targeting an older audience. Its 8 p.m. shows after “Griffith” are repeats of “Law & Order: SVU” Mondays, “Cold Case” Tuesdays, “Burn Notice” Wednsdays, “Without a Trace” Thursdays and “Monk” Fridays.

Agree with HAHE. Not the same without Barney Fife. He left once they went to color.

Love it! Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea, Helen, Thelma Lou, Floyd and the lovable carrot-topped Opie Taylor (and later characters Howard Sprague, Millie, Goober, etc.) were all part of a show that was the era in television history that showcased small town living at its best. Welcome back Americana. Great move WATL.

I am so happy that WATL is bringing back The Andy Griffith Show, which was a classic in wholesome, unforgettable humor that made all of us laugh out loud. I’ll never forget hearing Deputy Barney Fife say, “Andy, it’s a jungle out there.”
Some viewers may not have ever seen Andy Griffith in a hilarious movie, “No Time for Sergeants,” which was adapted from Georgia writer Mac Hyman’s popular novel. I think Hyman was from Cordele, Ga.

Be careful, “fshrmnglf” after that comment someone on here will call you either a “hater, a bigot, or a racist”.

Good move to bring back one of the absolute best television shows of all time. Now how about a time slot for “The Rockford Files?”

Too much Rush hate will eat you from the inside. I feel sorry for you. Me? I don’t give a fat rat’s ass about a silly actors politics. Or a singers………. I must be so hard to carry all that hate around inside you, but then that’s why right wing talk radio runs 24/7 now to keep it stoked up.
I’ll be watching ole Andy with my little girl. I think she’ll like it.

I’ve seen those shows about 6 or 8 times over and never get tired of them. The best one was “‘ man in a hurry”. I wish I could find a town like Mayberry, I would sell everything I own and move there.

“Reminiscence”, upon retiring I did my research, and found my “Mayberry RFD”. It’s everything and more of what I found out on the internet. Love it here, and it’s not expensive either. Would say where but that would only cause an influx, and defeat the purpose. (Hint: it’s in SC)

@Reminiscence, “Man in a hurry” was a classic but the greatest episode was a tie between

Everyone doesn’t love Raymond. He had no interest for me. Now bring back Dr. Who and I’ll be happy. Guess Amos and Andy is too much to hope for. Sandford and Son was a rip off of AA. Great line from AA, Sapphire’s Mama to the Kingfish: What do you need a watch for George? You ain’t got no place to go and nobody cares if you get there.

There are so many fantastic eps of AG Show. The first year was not good though, with Andy the Aw Shucks hayseed. It got better and more realistic later when Andy got more serious, and Barney was the funny character. The stray dogs episode stands out in my mind, along with the one about when the freezer on the back porch goes out, and Andy keeps saying “CALL THE MAN!” when Aunt Bea tries to be a cheapskate. The show really wasn’t bad even later after Barney and Andy left. Sprague and Warren weren’t bad. Even the last Mayberry RFD’s were watchable with goody goody Sam Jones.

I don’t know if 11Alive is considering making programming changes… I could picture…
Dr. Phil at 11AM… Atlanta & Company being shortened to half-hour, and airing at 12:30PM, after Noon news… 11Alive bringing back 5PM news… Wheel of Fortune at 7PM.
As for WATL… I could picture Andy Griffith moving to 7PM… 11Alive debuting a new 7:30PM news. I don’t know about The Three Stooges… I could picture WATL airing The Jefferson’s at 10:30PM, after the 10PM news.
I believe WSB is getting Katie Couric’s new talk show… FOX 5 getting Dish Nation. I believe 11Alive is getting Jeff Probst’s new talk show… and not sure if Rachael Ray’s show is moving to WATL, or another Atlanta station. Don’t know which stations will be airing Steve Harvey and Ricki Lake’s new talk shows.
I wish CBS Atlanta would bring back Noon news. I could picture Better Mornings Atlanta airing weekdays 4:30-7AM on CBS Atlanta, and 7-10AM on Peachtree TV.
