Season two ousted “Idol” singer, Broadway star and “The Voice” finalist Frenchie Davis has come out of the closet.
She told the St. Louis Post Dispatch after talking about a woman she’s been dating the past year:
“I wasn’t out before the relationship, but I wasn’t in,” she says. “I dated men and women, though lesbians weren’t feeling the bisexual thing. Now I’m in love with a woman I think I can be with forever.”
Davis has performed at numerous Gay Pride events over the years, including the ones in Atlanta. She has given her gay fans numerous props in interviews. So this is hardly a shock.
The R&B powerhouse finished fifth on “The Voice” last year.
Other “Idol” contestants who have come out include Adam Lambert, Jim Verraros, R.J. Helton and Clay Aiken. None have done so while they were competing on the show.
- Fox’s “The Choice” is barely a TV show. It’s a ridiculously stupid ripoff of “The Voice” and will not last after these 10 episodes.
Taylor Hicks, the “Idol” winner from 2006, knows this. He decided to just flout the so-called “rules” during the show. I give him props for it. And host Cat Deeley dealt with it with class. MJ was nice enough to save the moment for posterity:

The Choice is stupid but Taylor made it fun along with the unendingly charming Cat Deeley.

Wow, I missed quite the day around here yesterday, huh? Hi Sam, saw you were looking for me! And D… wow, that is my dream trip you took. I’ve always wanted to go to the Caymans and the stingray swim would be too much fun!
I just skimmed posts, but I had already said my thoughts on the blog before that… I stick by them. I’m proud of Carrie for her honesty, willingness to state her feelings, and acceptance that no matter what you say, there’ll always be someone who doesn’t like it. If I had girls, I’d be thrilled if they idolized her.
I’m not even sure what the show “The Choice” is. Is it a singing show? I thought it was a dating show. Obviously Rodney doesn’t think much of it. And since it includes Taylor, I more than likely wouldn’t have a lot of interest in watching it anyway.
Speaking of dating shows, hey Mercedes, are you keeping up with the Bachelorette? Pre-season, I thought Emily would be plastic and awful, but she’s actually great! She’s actually making a cheesy show quite entertaining!

Movie tip (or not): Since you’ve all seen the ads and previews for “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”, you already know that a) a meteor will crash into Earth and kill everybody in a couple of weeks and b) a sad sack character (Steve Carell) and his morose neigbor (Keira Knightley) will spend that time falling madly in love. Boring and predictable. What is fun though – unexpected sidebars, like cameo appearances by beloved, almost forgotten, actors; hedonistic pursuits, some involving 6-year olds getting the first (and only) martini; Keira Knightley’s closet and record collecton.

For the opinionated Potato guy: there’s a great movie coming our way: “Your Sister’s Sister”.
Also: The cover of the current “New Yorker” issue, titled “June Brides”, has two women getting married, To each other.

Taylor made the show fun at the end. However, he was so laid back until the end. Rosco…quite attractive. He got the best girl IMO. Taylor also made the right choice.
As for Frenchie Davis coming out, I don’t think one had to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. It was obvious to me while she was on The Voice. As for the others…RJ, Jim and Adam…to me it was obvious from the beginning they were gay, so admitting it didn’t shock or suprise me at all. The only one who, although I wasn’t shocked about, I wasn’t sure of was Clay only because he protested so much that he wasn’t, when he was on Idol and everyone was asking him.
I don’t know why, in 2012, people still make a big deal about people who come out. Who cares what the person’s sexual affiliation is? I care more about it when a person whines about being a victim, which one person on this list constantly does.

As for opinionated women, Pixar’s “Brave” is a fantasy medieval cartoon, starring a stubborn Scottish princess who fights equally stubborn mom’s suggestion that she become more ladylike and settle down with a nice laird’s son. The animation is spectacular, especially when this princess Merida roams about hills and wood; storyline less so. All the suitors are dofuses, a witch shows up, evil spells are cast, and poor mom’s life hangs in the balance.
Great for kids though; and it will kill at the box office,

So Mercedes, movie question for you. (I know you can’t actually know, but I thought we could at least speculate.) I loved the Hunger Games movie, and thought it did a great job reflecting the book… but I did notice they downplayed the mockingjay pin and where she got it.
So now, after reading the second book in the series, Catching Fire… where she got the pin becomes SO important! How will they backtrack in the second movie?
Yes, I have become a little obsessed with the series.
How did I ever miss it before this?

I don’t recall Aiken “protesting so much,” rather laughing it off saying his personal life isn’t anyone’s concern. Making a statement when asked doesn’t equate to “protesting.”

Jenny, I read some article where the reason for movie- Katniss getting her mockinjay pin from the forgettable old woman was explain as “that way we don’t have to deal with so many characters”. That was a terrible excuse, imho.. Exactly who gives K her pin and why is pretty important in the book and movie audiences who haven’t read the “Hunger Games” are being cheated.

I know Mercedes! I think the movie could easily have gone 5 minutes longer to introduce Madge. And it seems like their friendship will *have* to be part of the second movie. After all, that’s how Katniss finds out that uprisings are really happening! I just don’t see how they can downplay the pin and its origin.
I hope they will figure out a way. I really want to see the whole story of Maysilee Donner, and Haymitch’s Hunger Games…. they can’t leave that out of the movie! It just ties into too much.

And I figured the forgettable old woman was probably supposed to be Greasy Sae… but they also downplayed the Hob way too much for my liking. I loved the movie, but thought it could easily have been a lot longer to include more. I was really glad I’d read the book before seeing it.

The Patootie poster better not get hold of the new Entertainmenmt Weekly and its 10 page cover story “The New Art of Coming Out: How Gay Stars Are Now Carefully – and Surprisingly – Going Public About Their Private Lives.” Idos is represented by Clay posing with his baby on People Magazine. MP – Bigot – “one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance”. Pretty sure you can throw sexual orientation into that as well. But I’ll make sure to “be careful with that one” in the future. Whatever that means. And what I said was what if she were to say that. There would be people on the other side of the argument that would disagree with her. She was in a no win situation on this subject.
Secondly, I can read. I know what RoHo’s headline said. I also can read exactly what CU said, and she did not once say “I support gay marriage”. If she ever did say those words, please find it and post it and I’ll admit I was wrong, but I’ve read the quotes and I know what I read.
Third, “with your convoluted thought process you would be all in favor of a man marrying his sister”. Did I ever say that? That is just plain ignorant. I have nothing to re-think and of course I realize that there is a line. That’s incest and I’m fairly certain that most people think that that is wrong (and I say most because clearly not everyone thinks so). But thanks for bringing that topic into a discussion about gay marriage. The two are so obviously similar.
And, finally, your quote about tolerance. You are actually right. It isn’t right for either side. As much as I don’t agree with people telling a gay couple they can’t be together, I don’t want to see protests over the issue either. Just as I didn’t agree with the Trayvon Marting protest/march that was held, or the occupy wall street “movement”. All people want to do is protest things these days. So, no, I don’t want to hear it from either side.
The last thing I’ll add, MP, is that you seem to be in the minority on this topic and you almost seem to be getting mad that other people don’t agree with you. And to stop supporting someone you like because you don’t agree with their beliefs just seems a little overboard. I completely disagree with George Clooney’s politics, but I’ll still watch his movies, because I like the work that he does. I can’t get through a David Letterman monologue anymore, but I’ll watch him if he has on a guest I like. If you like Carrie Underwood’s music, then buy it and listen to it. Religious and political beliefs aside, there are some talented people out there making some good films and music, and if I like it, I’m going to continue to support their projects, if not the person. If I chose to censor myself to only those with my beliefs, I’d probably never watch a Hollywood movie again.
And these posts are why I really wanted to stay out of this conversation. Just couldn’t help myself.

bknsty14, stop it! …That’s waaaayyyy too much logical thought for the blog!
Regarding the thread-line, I always thought Frenchie was gay. Same with Adam. So I have the same reaction to her “coming out” as I did to Adam – so what?! Shouldn’t we really be past the point where it should matter? (Except maybe to the MP’s of the world.)
I also agree with a previous blogger (sorry, forgot who it was) who basically said it was a bull-squeeze question for the “journalist” to ask Carrie anyway!
Let’s see a show of hands by everyone who bases their beliefs and decisions on what their favorite singer or actor says. …C’mon, get ‘em up. …Yeah, …that’s what I thought.

Because he said something about disagreeing with President Obama’s politics and/or agenda, someone called him (MP) a racist. That’s the worst kind of knee-jerk reaction.

Supply and demand. As long as we demand celebrity dirt (TMZ, People, etc) they will try to supply it. Hence Carrie and others undoubtably will be pestered with the question. The great thing for reporters asking celebrities about gay marriage is that you have a story regardless of the answer. Heck, you could make a good story out of a refusal to answer the question. It’s a no win situation for the celebrities.
I won’t go back and rehash… far to much and I’m still in transit. Ahh Denver.

Mercedes:I actually liked “Brave” a lot. More adults than kids at my show. The first 20 mins a little bit slow, but I thought it picked up pretty well.It was a real feast for the eyes – the colors, the scenery – really lovely to look at. And at the end, near the “2nd sunrise”, must admit I shed a couple of tears! I was glad they restrained the whole “rescuer prince” thing! Only objection – when you go to a “kids-geared” movie, you sure don’t see good previews!
Still liking “Falling Skies” this season. Enough excitement to keep my interest, but not to stir me up so much I am too edgy to get to bed (unlike the great, but so nerve-wracking “Walking Dead”).

Deirdre – what do you think of “True Blood” so far?
Book I heartily recommend: Frank Langella’s “Dropping Names – Famous Men and Women As I Knew Them”. The word “unputdownable” comes into play. Tender/beetchee/surprising/sad/loving
memories involving people like John F. Kennedy, Laurence Olivier, Elizabeth Taylor.
