Carrie Underwood supports gay marriage

Carrie Underwood rarely, if ever, gets in trouble for words that come out of her mouth.

While trying to break in to the British market, she told the U.K. Independent she supported gay marriage.

“As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love and want to marry,” Underwood told the Independent. “I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”

This led to some backlash on some news sites, including Taste of Country.

“My church is also Non-Denominational, however right is right. You cannot argue with the Bible. I love how these big stars twist the word of God to suit them. Sorry, but I’ve lost most of my respect for Carrie on this one,” wrote Kendi Bergdoll.

“If you can not argue with the Bible,” responded Tom Jessie. “Then you as a women should have no public opinion! And as such you should delete your Facebook and any other social media accounts now to follow the Bible literally!”

In an AP interview Tuesday, Underwood was uncomfortable revisiting the topic.

“I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do and I love making music and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy,” she told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday.

Meanwhile, her recent No. 1 song “Good Girl” is the top-selling downloaded “Idol” track of the week, moving 46,000 copies for a total of 1.08 million. Her current album “Blown Away” has sold 569,000 copies to date.

At an “Idols” press conference for the upcoming tour, Phillip Phillips said he’s recovering from kidney surgery he had last week:

“I’m good. I’m not 100 [percent], but I’m good,” he says. “I’m doing a lot better than expected, so that’s a good thing.”

iggit was a word we used for ignore it. Sometimes the best gift you can give to some people is attention.

Loooong time ago on the blog we had a guy who baited people. He was unmerciful and delighted in any angry response to his barbs. We developed the term “iggit” to remind people that they were being trolled for a response. This guy was so bad, however, and so careful not to use words or phrases that would get him banned, that Rodney couldn’t delete him with a clear conscious.

Eventually he went too far and got himself kicked out.

Jessica Sanchez is being considered for a story arc in next season’s Glee. I’m wishing her the best and hope she gets in the cast. Great voice to add to that particular group.

Good for Jessica – she should shine on that show. Nice lately not having her mentioned so that creep couldn’t keep remarking about how “hideous” and “ugly” she is. Don’t miss those stupid remarks at all.

Deirdre said at 6:46PM yesterday, “the world is changing”. (Or “evolving” as Obama did, that was funny) Yes, as most polls now say, it’s changing alright, for the worst.
Perhaps also Deirdre should read the article on the front page of today’s AJC. Looks like a little more are still against it than for it, so it’s NOT changing very fast. This is something that will never, ever be accepted, especially in the Southern states.

Ya know what…I don’t give a rats azz what the President’s opinion of gay marriage is.

This is what I care about: watching my lesbian cousin struggle for years to deny who she was then struggle for MORE years while her mother tried to deny who she was. I don’t think there is any better proof anywhere that gays and lesbians do not choose the life they have been thrust into.

And marriage? My 2 gay friends who have been a loving and happy couple for as long as my husband and I…..31 years…which proves that gay couples are as capable of a stable marriage as any heterosexual couple.

And the Bible??????? Have you read the parts about loving your fellow humans???? No matter what???? About being accepting and giving and generous?

The “church” is not God…..although most people would like to believe it is. The “church”(whatever church it might be) cannot dictate what God wants or thinks or believes. The “church” has all sorts of Bible quotes but each church only uses the quotes that suit its purpose. Which explains why some churches are accepting and some are not.

So here’s my point……we go to the church that follows our OWN beliefs the most closely. So, if you don’t believe gays and lesbians should be allowed to get married, using the Bible or your church as the reason fails.

Please don’t get me wrong. If that’s how you feel then fine. You are entitled to your opinion. And I admire your ability to stand up for what you believe.

But just once, I’d like to hear an argument against something that isn’t anyone else’s business(certainly not the government’s!!!!) that doe not give random Bible quotes that can be negated by other random Bible quotes OR that God thinks it’s unnatural. How on earth does anyone KNOW what God thinks???

As for it being against nature…that is patently untrue! There are examples all over nature of animals turning toward homosexual activity when the population gets too high and the species likely to starve. It’s instinctual.

“bknsty14″ Re: UR 2:56AM Post, No one had to “read between the lines” the headline on RoHo’s article emphatically states” Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage”. Even the interior of the column states she informed the UK Independent she supported it. So looks like you were the only one in the dark about it. Also, in reading your post it looks very much like, with your convoluted thought process you would be all in favor of a man marrying his sister, a man having 5 wives, or any arrangement possible as long as that person loved them. THAT would open up a huge can of worms. Maybe you should re-think that! You do realize the “line” has to be drawn somewhere don’t you? You also mentioned that if she “were against gay marriage, she would be called a bigot”. Now why would she be a “bigot” just because she had a different belief? Have you ever looked up the word “bigot”? That word is tossed around very loosely by the gay crowd, just as the word “racist” is tossed around by blacks and other minorities. Someone is not a “bigot” just because they have a different belief or opinion about something than you do. Be careful with that one. I leave you with a very thought-provoking question I found on a website while doing some research a few months ago: “If being intolerant of homosexuality is somehow wrong, then why are the homosexuals not wrong when they express their intolerance of those who disapprove of homosexuality?” This would pin a lot of posters on this thread and subject to the wall, not wouldn’t it? More later in response to others.

“Dear, Dear Deirdre”, there you go off on a tangent. Nowhere in any of my posts have I brought up the Bible, or said anything about God being the reason for my strong convictions and beliefs. Don’t believe me, go back and read them all again. In fact, that would be about #3 on my list of reasons. Just to be clear about that, O.K.? You assumed something incorrectly as most people do when the subject comes up. Someone else called me a “hater’(which I’m not, love everyone, just don’t like their ways or lifestyles), came very close to calling me a ‘bigot”(insinuated that one) and said I was basically “stupid” just because I have a different viewpoint or opinion, and do not fall in line with the “in” thing to do nowdays, or go along with the clique on here. I still respect everyone’s right to feel the way they do and have their own opinion. Just don’t deny or denigrate me. Mine are firm and don’t just change with the wind or the times.

MyPatootie – sounds like Deirdre’s posts wasn’t just for YOU. I may be mistaken, but I felt she was talking to all those who quote the Bible as the truest form against gays. For once, let someone speak from their heart why they are vehemently against homosexuality and not because the Church says it’s wrong.

I with Deidre also standing with the fact that the church is not God!

Thanks Pitchy…no I was not directing the Bible argument at MP. It’s the main go-to argument espoused by many, if not most, anti gay marriage people. But I can see where MP would think it was meant for him. Her?

Anyhow, the “against nature ” argument is also very popular and, clearly, that one doesn’t really hold water either. Nature is full of safeguards to protect or even destroy a species.

“My Patootie” – I shudder to think what you are IRL. I have a picture in my head and it ain’t pretty.

You and your ilk should be shot into outer space. The world would be a better place for it. I’d hate to know how it is to go through life so bitter and hateful all the time. Wow.

Not “bitter”, not “hateful”, just have a differing opinion and feeling about something than you do. I’m very peaceful and content with not overriding my conscience and going along with the crowd. BTW, I do have lots of company as witnessed by the article yesterday in the AJC. Also, based on your post’s wording it sounds like you may be the “bigot” and not me, based on that word’s definition. You say “you and your ilk should be shot into outer space” and that’s somewhat how I feel about the LGBT crowd, which sounds like you may be a member of. Hopefully all will end up in the Northeastern states which have passed the gay marriage law(except CA and Iowa) and all of that “ilk” can be contained in one area. That would be OK with me. I know one thing, it will never, ever happen in the South.
