Kicks 101.5 brings back its Country Fair with Alan Jackson as headliner

Kicks 101.5, with Eagle 106.7, used to host a sold-out, two-day annual country fair at Lakewood Amphitheatre until 2008.

With the recession, Citadel, the owners at the time, decided it wasn’t worth the effort and it was suspended in 2009.

But Kicks, under new ownership with Atlanta-based Cumulus Media, is resurrecting the Country Fair as a one-day event October 6 and moving it north to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park. The first big name announced: Georgia native Alan Jackson. Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn fame will host.

More names are to come and given Kicks’ clout, it should be a nice mix of newcomers and veterans.

Tickets for the 2012 event go on sale this Saturday, June 23 at 10:00am at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or at www.ticketmaster.com. Prices are going to be pretty reasonable: $20 for lawn seats to $79 for VIP seating before service fees. If you want to buy tickets without those pesky fees, you could do so in person at the amphitheater this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I wrote about the 2008 event and it’s impressive that the three Kicks’ featured artists have all become even bigger the past four years: Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley. Eagle 106.7’s day used to feature the older artists. That final year for Eagle included Clay Walker, Pat Green, and hometown boy Travis Tritt. I attended the 2007 event which included Gretchen Wilson, Gary Allen, Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Billy Currington and Eric Church (who has that very cool No. 1 song out now “Springsteen”).

Here’s hoping that Cumulus is too big and too disorganized to realize I’ve sent most of our audience to the Bull!

Richard Whiskey, thanks for the laugh. Indeed, Alan Jackson has aged, but, he ain’t quite that old yet. LOL! A bit close, though. He’ll be 54 Oct, 17th. Wish I could be at this event. I’m sorry, but, $79 for the ticket is still a little stiff for me, especially in this economy, considering there are 4 of us in my family who would have gone. Oh….well, I guess.
