Phillip Phillips’ dad’s pawn shop burglarized

Michael Becker/Fox

Michael Becker/Fox

It’s a rule of thumb to not tell the world that you are out of town because someone might decide to rip you off.

Well, the poor Phillips family was obviously in Los Angeles this week dealing with “Idol” winner Phillip Phillips‘ kidney surgery. So his dad’s Albany, Ga. pawn shop became the target of a robbery, according to TMZ, which has photos of the damage.

The robber or robbers appeared to steal a backhoe and then enter the premises by force, stealing $4,000 worth of merchandise. The shop is currently up for sale.

Phillips is now out of the hospital, according to E! Online.  He tweeted: “Ready to be able to pick the guitar back up and REALLY play…..its been too long!” He is expected to be there for the “Idols” live tour starting July 6.

- Slow news day so let’s go over the radio airplay charts.

Hot AC: seven “Idol’ songs in the top 40: Kelly Clarkson (#9 “Stronger,” #23 “Dark Side”), Carrie Underwood (#22 “Good Girl”), Daughtry (#23 “Outta My Head”), Haley Reinhart (#28 “Free”), Kris Allen (#33 “Vision of Love”) and Adam Lambert (#38 “Never Close Our Eyes”). Phillip Phillips is at #44 with “Home.

Top 40: Clarkson (#40 “Dark Side”)

Country: Underwood (#4 “Good Girl”) Clarkson (#24 “Mr. Know It All”)

Christian pop: Mandisa (#23 “Good Morning”)

And this new page might be real quiet as well.

Is it “real quiet” or “really quiet”? Discuss.

I’m sure they will all do just fine without us, JT.

They’ll probably have a party. Talk about the best stuff of the year. Give out prizes. Post pictures of all the skin that is being flashed this week. Get visits from Idols and celebrities. Receive massages… with happy endings.

Yeah, they’ll do fine ;)

D, I’m sorry Duets hasn’t worked out for you…I get it. And just when I’m about to switch the channel over, “Ooh, Kelly! Shiny!” and I stick around.

JT, LOL! In that case, are you sure we can’t get you an earlier flight? ;)

I must’ve hit the button twice.

The Teen Choice Award noms released today include both Kelly and Phil in the music categories and Kat McPhee in the TV category. Congrats to our Idols!

Really quiet, JT.
I also appreciate anyone who uses “well” instead of “good”, when appropriate.
My worst “good” – “he’s good people”.
But I know, it’s a lost cause.

Thank you Mercedes, I try to improve one step at a time.

I’m good, and I’m also well. I started to make the shift a few months ago to avoid saying “I’m good” when asked “how are you doing?”

Maybe I should go for confusion and answer “I’m chaotic good”? Little D&D reference there that no one will get, but I’ve never shied away from making obscure references.

Hey, everyone. Time to say bye everyone. JT have a great vacation, and D, I will probably miss you. I won’t be around for the next few days either. It is that time of year.

Duets lost me the first week’s show. I hated it, Kelly notwithstanding. But,to hear her, you had to get through so much other crap that I couldn’t hang.

Morning!

Idol Season 12 auditions were held in San Antonio yesterday with approximately 6000 hopefuls.

Happy Friday!

G, LOL. Well, I mean, you gotta hope for something, no? And who’s to say that some exposure on the show, even if you don’t win, doesn’t mean you can’t build enough of a fanbase to make a living at music? That’s not a bad deal.

BTW, only 6,000? I feel like the number have dwindled…?

I’m not a Tom Cruise fan, but the man is incredible in “Rock of Ages”… his part is a supporting one, but he steals the movie, without apologies, from the presumptive leads, unknown Mexican singer and Ryan Seacrest’s girlfriend. Music is fine, if you like the 80s stuff. Plot has been deraunched so the movie can be PG-13. And Tom can sing!

I hear ya K&C, but I think the curtain behind the wiz has been lifted. The number of 6000 seemed kind of low to me too, but I wasn’t sure.

I think that after about the first 5-6 seasons, Idol pretty much settled into what it is today. Your winners are pretty much pre-determined and the top 10 is fairly diversified. The only “hopeful” is to make it to the top 10 and mentally treat that as a win. Sure you have your LOSERS that still find a way to be at least moderately succesful. But the majority of losers on Idol pretty much go back to mediocrity.

However, there are more shows of the same that offer more opportunity to win if you’re not a WGWG.

It would be interesting to hear what kind of audition numbers The Voice and X-Factor get. 6000 is pretty respectable for Idol’s 12th season. I get the feeling that the other 2 shows are not quite as open as Idol is for auditions. The Voice has already admitted to soliciting talent from local bars and failed music contract holders.

Duets……… some of the duets, even with Kelly, Robin, Jenneifer, etc. – are simply not very good. Nothing exceptional that I would want to listen to again.

The “drama” the show was supposed to create; the a capella sing-offs are boring, the Judges voting among themselves while competing at the same time, the banter among the Judges — none of it works very well in my opinion.

I don’t watch a lot of TV anyway, but try to catch shows with music connections – so this is better than some of the other programming, but nothing to shout about. As said, it’s 95% about the Celebrity Judges and 5% about the props they are using to sing with.

I think Toto was in the luggage compartment of the plane to Denver (where I am now), barked half the way here. Flight attendant found humor in someone asking is she could shut the dog up. Lady got headphones instead.

6000, meh. Idol will die not with a bang but a whimper with apologies to T.S. Eliot.

Thanks for the review Mercedes, I’ll make sure to catch it (on DVD because that is how I roll).

As my husband always says(barking dogs notwithstanding) an uneventful airplane trip is a successful plane trip.

Mercedes, thanks for the review. I was about to ask! Glad you enjoyed it… I’m looking forward to the movie as I definitely enjoyed the show (Sidenote: http://blogs.ajc.com/american-idol-blog/2011/07/06/rock-of-ages-far-more-fun-than-youd-think/).

D, yes, in comparison, Idol auditions pull in a LOT of people. Even 6,000 is a pretty impressive number. The thing about hopefuls is that, as much as we might complain, they do seem to do a better job of having the “undiscovered unknowns” as opposed to The Voice’s “stacked deck.” I enjoy the early rounds of The Voice, but you can clearly tell these contestants are more in the “minor leagues” than just coming off the streets.
