Phillip Phillips’ dad’s pawn shop burglarized

Michael Becker/Fox

Michael Becker/Fox

It’s a rule of thumb to not tell the world that you are out of town because someone might decide to rip you off.

Well, the poor Phillips family was obviously in Los Angeles this week dealing with “Idol” winner Phillip Phillips‘ kidney surgery. So his dad’s Albany, Ga. pawn shop became the target of a robbery, according to TMZ, which has photos of the damage.

The robber or robbers appeared to steal a backhoe and then enter the premises by force, stealing $4,000 worth of merchandise. The shop is currently up for sale.

Phillips is now out of the hospital, according to E! Online.  He tweeted: “Ready to be able to pick the guitar back up and REALLY play…..its been too long!” He is expected to be there for the “Idols” live tour starting July 6.

- Slow news day so let’s go over the radio airplay charts.

Hot AC: seven “Idol’ songs in the top 40: Kelly Clarkson (#9 “Stronger,” #23 “Dark Side”), Carrie Underwood (#22 “Good Girl”), Daughtry (#23 “Outta My Head”), Haley Reinhart (#28 “Free”), Kris Allen (#33 “Vision of Love”) and Adam Lambert (#38 “Never Close Our Eyes”). Phillip Phillips is at #44 with “Home.

Top 40: Clarkson (#40 “Dark Side”)

Country: Underwood (#4 “Good Girl”) Clarkson (#24 “Mr. Know It All”)

Christian pop: Mandisa (#23 “Good Morning”)

First of all……………I didn’t do it. If anything, I would leave a book of voice lessons on his doorstep.

There is a reason his father was seen packing in the “Going Home” footage. There are people out there who have no respect for others.

JTesla – what Madonna did on stage was disgusting. Her 51 year old woman showing her ta tas on stage is a scream for attention and desperation to appeal to a younger crowd. Someone should have slapped her and her ta tas right off the stage. Madonna may look good for her age. Hell, I’m older than her and look way better…TRUST!

Let me finish that sentence…Madonna may look good for age, but flashing only shows she has no class!

Highlander from yesterday… sure, count me in the alumni group! For me, Adam was one of two contestants ever (Carrie’s the other one) where I simply could not wait for the show each week, to see what they’d do.

And I absolutely *loved* Adam’s “Ring Of Fire”. At the time Adam sang it, I had never heard the original Johnny Cash version… and when I finally did, I much preferred Adam’s version. (But I’m only a “sometimes” country fan, and I don’t usually like twang.)

Bad performances… I’d second the Caw Caw Rockin Robin song (*shudder*…) and I’d add Jason Castro’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. I’d also add most performances by Scott Savol and Sanjaya, and

But the worst for me, and the one and only Idol performance that has ever actually made me MAD… that honor goes to Phillip Phillips for the horrid butchering and melody-stripping of “Movin’ Out”.

Scottie McCheesy’s “Kiss Me or Not” comes in a fairly close second-to-worst. It was a prime example of his cheese-faces at their most painful.

(On-topic… I do hope they will hurry up and catch the a-holes who robbed the pawn shop.)

anybody watching the reupholstered “Dallas” tonight? I was tempted, until I read the NYT’s review, which ends, “Texans used to be big hat; now they’re old hat. So, unfortunately,is ‘Dallas’.”

Mercedes: I might give “Dallas” a look, just because I spent so many Friday nights watching the original – but no guarantee I’ll stick with the whole show. Didn’t really like Jesse Metcalf on “Desperate Housewives”, and JR (Hagman) is just plain scary looking now. Age and cancer have not been his friends! (Well, not anyone else’s either I guess).

It bugs me so here goes. It’s actually “Call Me, Maybe?” and should have been titled that way. “Call Me Maybe” carries an entirely different meaning, and actually threw me when I saw the title before I heard the song. I abhor PC(politically correctness) but let’s at least be “technically correct”, even in music titles.

Part2, It’s funny so I will admit it. I saw the title of that song somewhere before I heard it and then when I did hear it I thought she was saying “Call Me Baby”. That even got stuck in my head until I found out differently. Did you ever try to edit something stuck in your head? Trust me, it aint easy! Then when I saw the title again I thought a copy editor had made a mistake by saying, “Call Me Maybe” simply because there was no comma there. I know, but things like that follow me around, just like a huge dark cloud sometimes!

Morning!

I didn’t see Duets last night but all over the web and particularly from mj comes suggestions that the judges have eliminated one singer to save another judge from being without singers. According to a number of people, Robin Thicke’s last singer appeared to be saved despite a poor performance and John Legend’s girl was eliminated despite an excellent performance. Robin Thicke would have been left without a singer.

Apparently the whole idea is to keep the “stars” singing as long as possible. This show seems to be even more about the judges than any other singing competition show.

Mercedes, I agree about the Hulk. I’m a fan of Mark Ruffalo. I thought he did a very good job with a difficult concept.

Clever movie, very good action(that maybe went on too long a couple of times) Nice, if somewhat surface, differences between each “hero’s” personality. Love the guy who plays Loki and could look at Thor all day without getting bored. Those Hemsworth boys are something else!

Sam-A

June 14th, 2012

Deirdre: First, “those Hemsworth boys” – Australian – seems Australia is just plumb loaded with very handsome young men!

The Hulk was by far my least favorite character. But in that last “Hulk” movie, Edward Norton played the character, and when not the beast, he was really good – a very intense actor! I do like Mark R ok too.

I did watch “Duets” (completely forgot about “Dallas” – was gonna peek in at RoHo’s suggestion). I got that feeling a little bit too. But truth be told, neither girl was very good in the a capella sing off. The one who went was certainly more attractive and overall better in the few performances she had (she was the replacement when the guy was kicked off), but it was pretty much a draw in the sing-off. Her performance (Party songs) song with John L was “Since U Been Gone”, which really highlighted how great Kelly’s version is. I certainly wouldn’t have minded if Robin T was finished 0 yucky! And it seems, next week the viewers start voting.

It was good to see DALLAS back on. It will be interesting to see if this generation of viewers will like as much as the previous. What I liked about it so far:

1. They kept the original theme song
2. A good handful of familiar characters are back
3. Plenty of eye-candy from the new cast of characters (Ewing family, etc.)
4. They worked in current songs (Adele) during key scenes
5. There is no time wasted in stirring up the pot
6. Major difference is the PG13 rating; strong language
7. The show has plenty of technology updates: Has an interactive website to choose your favorite character or something; Click “Like” on the Dallas group page on Facebook to catch up on the timeline.
8. . JR……….is still JR

Seems like it picked up where it left off. Good show!

In Idol news: “Majesco snags the American Idol license for ‘interactive games’” the maker of Zumba Fitness has landed the AI license for games. Idol is going to milk the franchise for all that it is worth, and I don’t blame them. Shouldn’t take too long to churn out an Idol game.

Hi y’all,

MyPatootie, too funny! I hate when the wrong lyrics get stuck in my head because it’s next to impossible to get rid of them. That song is super catchy, but makes no sense to me. “I just met you” and yet “I miss you so, so bad.” Maybe they should make it the theme for the Bachelor/Bachelorette?

D, glad you enjoyed The Avengers. I’m usually not a big “comic book” moviegoer, but that one is probably one of my faves. I loved the humor.

I watched Duets last night. I’ll be honest, I only watch because Kelly is on the show. Getting to hear/see her weekly is the only saving grace. I like her contestants but they’re too eager to please puppies, lacking self confidence. As far as the others, I do enjoy the rest of the judges, but meh. Something is missing on the show for me. Perhaps the fact that we can’t vote yet, but also the obvious attempt to keep a contestant so every judge can sing each week. Olivia should have gone home instead of Meleana, that was just crap. It will be interesting to see how the show will change once people get to vote. Honestly, IF the show makes it back, I sure hope Kelly doesn’t come back for another season…so I wont’ have to either!

Haven’t seen a whole lot of Duets, but the little I’ve seen looks okay to me. Not my favorite, but it’s okay if nothing else is on.

Kelly has been the main person on the show promoting it, so if it comes back she HAS to be part of it.

Deirdre

JT, I’m pretty sure that there already was an American Idol video game. I guess “interactive” is the key word on the new one.

I enjoyed the humor as well, k&cf. Robert Downey Jr was just the right choice for Iron Man. And I liked the way none of their personalities gelled. They didn’t play well with others until they had no choice. Was that part of the comic book or was that an invention of the movie?

Yes, it will probably involve motion hardware like the MS Kinect or Sony Move. The game maker did a great job with that on their last game. I’m curious how many games they will churn out with the license. As long as they have “Judge Mode” then I’ll be ok, because then it will be all about me.

JTesla

Deirdre: Captain America clashing with Iron Man personality wise is part of the comic. For me not only did Loki make the movie, but so did Robert Downey Jr.. They tried to make it about all of them, but it’s hard to outshine his Tony Stark.

K&CF: Agree totally – I only watch for Kelly, and hope I won’t have to again.

And Iron Man is the main reason I was willing to see “Avengers”. Robt D Jr is a great actor, with perfect comedic timing (with the exception of the first Sherlock Holmes – hated it so much I didn’t even see the 2nd one!). I don’t even remember Loki – will have to google. For me, the Hulk didn’t complement the rest of the “heroes”

Deirdre

Thanks, JT. I liked Captain America too because he was so ’40’s. Still not sure about Black Widow(although my husband says she’s definitely there for a reason. ;-) ) or Hawk even though I like Jeremy Renner in the role. And despite the distraction of his good looks, Thor did a great job with letting us see the love he still holds for his brother.

No doubt about it though, Loki and Iron Man make the movie with a special nod toward Hulk whamming Loki into the ground a few times.

I saw the picture of Kim Kardashian that was discussed a little yesterday. Talk about tame, you can see more skin on any cities public transportation system since it is basically her bare back with a little side of the front and a tiny bit of crack. She shows off more skin, and more crack, when she wears swimsuits.

The real question the picture raises though: who eats a meal when they are naked? I mean really, who does that. Especially a banana, who eats a banana without any clothes on? Of all the things I do in life the one thing that requires clothing is eating. You can do housework naked, you can mow the lawn naked, you can jog naked, you can drive to 7-11 naked, but for the love of all humanity put some clothes on when you eat!

“Still not sure about Black Widow or Hawk”

It plays into the theme of normal people exerting some control over the super heroes. In the same, but lesser manner that the X-Men franchise dealt with the normal vs. mutant. Since both are Marvel, and therefore the same universe, they need to pair Hugh Jackman up with Robert Downey Jr.
