TMZ: Phillip Phillips finally has his kidney surgery in Los Angeles

FILE - In this May 9, 2012 file photo provided by Fox, contestant Phillip Phillips performs on the singing competition series "American Idol," in Los Angeles. With the eleventh season finale of "American Idol" just a week away, many fans of the Fox talent contest aren't wondering who will capture the title, but whether sassy 16-year-old diva-in-training Jessica Sanchez or booming 20-year-old vocal showstopper Joshua Ledet would even have the votes to beat bluesy 21-year-old front-runner Phillip Phillips. (AP Photo/Fox, Michael Becker, File)

Phil Phillips had his surgery yesterday. Let's hope he has a full recovery!

This never-ending saga with “Idol” winner and Leesburg resident Phillip Phillips and his kidney stones hopefully has come to a happy conclusion: TMZ reports he had a six-and-a-half hour surgery yesterday.

Those painful stones almost caused him to drop out of “Idol” a couple of times. Hopefully, this surgery and a proper diet will keep him healthy moving forward.

Earlier this week, “Idol” tour organizers said they were confident he’d be ready for the tour starting July 6. This gives him about four weeks to recover. Given his pre-existing aversion to choreography, I’m sure whatever he does will be mostly him, a mic and a guitar. The Gwinnett Arena date August 5 is more or less sold out, save for a few seats in the upper deck and single seats scattered around, according to Ticketmaster.

I’m sure Phillips is hoping the focus down the road will be on his music, not his kidneys.

So much for that “alternative” treatment working, huh?

Get well soon.

TMZ also reports that his patient ID bracelet read “WGWG#5.”

I’m sure Phil is as relieved as the rest of us that this is finally over.

Six and a half hours of surgery doesn’t sound like just kidney stones to me.

“six-and-a-half hour surgery”

Ouch. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Good one Rickster!

Apparently from what I’ve read, Phil had a build-up of stones too large to pass or break-up in his right kidney which, due to a congenital condition, is largely non-functioning. He elected to wait until after Idol to have the surgery but went under the knife eight times during the show to keep the stent open and functioning,

More good news fro Phillip:

American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips earns the highest debut on the Digital Songs chart this week as his “Home” bows at No. 2 with 278,000 downloads sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Even better: It’s the second-best digital sales week ever for any “Idol” contestant. Only Kelly Clarkson’s 2009 song “My Life Would Suck Without You” had a bigger frame, when it debuted with 280,000 downloads.

Eight surgeries? What did they use to close the incision? A zipper?

Don’t know how he managed to stay on his feet long enough to sing a song or sit on that couch for 2 hours at a pop! My one tiny little stone years ago about killed me – worst backaches I could imagine!

While he wasn’t my favorite I have great respect for him staying with the show with his kidney issues. It takes a lot of ______ to do so! I just hope its not a recurring problem for him. For the record I did buy his single and I hope his album is similar in style.

Too bad tickets are sold out. I was thinking about going to a show. But of course I would be leaving early after Jessica performed. No need for me to listen to grunt-boy / Growl Master P / Mr. Extra Regular / #5. Ya’ll get the picture.

My bad. Guess I should be feeling sorry for him now.

Seriously(if I had a serious bone in my body) I once heard a woman, who had had “stones” before and had a couple of kids also, say that if she had to choose between kidney stones and childbirth she would choose childbirth and put the baby up for adoption. I thought that described it pretty well.

Read this joke… thought it was funny:

Two Jews meet on the street.

“Bernie! You’re a smart fella! Tell me something … how does a cell phone work?”

“Sammy, what do you mean, “How does a cell phone work?” You flip up the lid, you dial the number, the person answers and you talk.”

“No, Bernie, I mean, how does a cell phone work?”

“Oh, why didn’t you say so? It’s easy. Imagine that you’ve got this big dog, and the tail is in Brooklyn and the head is in the Bronx.”

“Yeah …”

“You squeeze the tail in Brooklyn, and the head barks … in the Bronx.”

(Looking quizically) … “But, Bernie, what does that have to do with how a cell phone works???”

“What? … A cell phone works the same way … but without the dog!”

Good. I must say I was concerned that the Idol machine was trying to manipulate ways for him not to miss any of the tour. I am very glad to see that his health is being put first.

Though I was most definitely NOT a fan of his singing… I surely wish him well, and hope this’ll help him to feel better. :-)

I have had kidney stones several times. They are no laughing matter. I almost died in the 70’s due to a blockage caused by a stone. After many hours of surgery, the surgeon was able to save my left kidney. Although I have limited function, it does work.
For those who think this has been a joke, maybe you will be cursed with the same problem in the near future.
Phillip Phillips is to be held in awe for being able to make it thru the comeptition.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a very long and successful career to this young man.

And I also might’ve liked to see the concert if it wasn’t sold out. Though like G, I doubt I’d stay for PP. (Hey, G, a bonus of PP winning would be no traffic getting out of the parking lot when you leave after Jessica sings!!) ;-)

TMZ is having a field day with the stuttering soldier from “America’s Got Talent” Tuesday night. Was he faking the “bomb” story? And did AGT really show a photo of him – or someone else? http://www.tmz.com/2012/06/07/timothy-poe-americas-got-talent-soldier-photo-afghanistan/

Just Me, I don’t think you meant me, but just in case… I have never thought PP’s health condition was a joke. Matter of fact, I noted several times during shows that he looked pale and didn’t seem to feel well. To me, that is concerning, whether I like his singing or not.

Any jokes I’ve made about PP are ONLY meant to be about his talent level. Not his health. I wish him all the best with that.

(sorry, I guess I took it seriously the other day when that person came on saying “shame on us”.)

As for the conman on the talent show I don’t watch – I don’t know what I despise most: the guy lying about his military service or faking his stutter. Both are affronts.

I remember how disappointed I was to learn that Brian Dennehy had lied about serving in Vietnam.

I saw a youtube of the lying sack of you know what guy on AGT. The stuttering was obviously fake. I’m surprised that speech therapists all over the country didn’t call in claiming fraud right from the start. What a turd!

AGT had better come on out and disavow this guy. He’s going to hurt the show. They need to appear credible on this thing.

Mercedes S.

June 7th, 2012

Deirdre, at 4:05 – with you there – the stutter seemed atypical. The stutterers I know seem to get stuck on “b”, “d”, “k” or “t”, seldom “I”.

Rickster

June 7th, 2012
4:39 pm

I think that AGT needs to give the guy ample opportunity to prove his claim. (Actually, they should have had him prove it before he made it in front of the judges.) If he can’t – they need to boot him off the show.

He wasn’t that good. He got sent to Las Vegas because of a compelling back-story that appears to be false.

MyPatootie

June 7th, 2012

CNN just says the soldier was in Afghanistan, but there’s no record of him being wounded by a grenade. Well, he had me suckered that’s for sure. AGT better do like Harriett said, and make a statement real quick. That won’t sit too well with most people. Not much worse than that if he is faking.

Harriett

June 7th, 2012

Agree, Rickster! Was not that good. I was reminded of the Season 4 winner, that hick singer Kevin something-or-other, the chicken catcher who had no business making it to Vegas, much less winning the show.

JTesla

June 7th, 2012

I bet he won’t be showing up in Vegas or leaving his house for a while. The problem with these people is once they start the lie, they will keep telling it. I looked up the Brian Dennehy issue that Mercedes mentioned (I had not heard of it before), seems that he fell back into telling the lie even after he was confronted with it (per Wikipedia)

Near quittin’ time – YEAH! Don’t know if I’m gonna watch “Duets” or not. I feel disloyal to Kelly, but have been disappointed in the show, and especially what I perceive as a bit of a bias in the judges voting, so not enjoying the whole thing (and don’t care at all for Robin Thicke!).

Things are not looking good for Poe.

I agree Rodney, I did watch him sing as the wife called me in to see it. It was ok. I’ve ended up seeing about 10 to 20 auditions this year for AGT, now I am curious if AGT addresses the matter once they go live. Perhaps this will be good for AGT, if they handle it correctly.

Related to that: I kind of like Howard Stern as a judge. He buzzed the bad dancers in bikinis and the large stripper, he does have standards.
