TMZ: Phillip Phillips’ kidney problems need to be treated pronto

phillip-top 3Phillip Phillips of Leesburg has been suffering from serious kidney problems. That’s no secret.

It has impacted him on stage and has prevented him from taking part recently in the Ford commercial shoots. I’ve interviewed him a few times during the competition and he said he’s trying to get as much rest as possible but admits to be perpetually fatigued.

But his personal issues haven’t stopped him from making the finals of “American Idol.”

TMZ  said his personal doctor saw him over the weekend during his Leesburg visit and highly recommended he get surgery immediately. But Phillip does want to win. So he’s sticking with the show until Wednesday and will then have surgery, which could take six weeks to recover.

A few weeks ago, he had a stent placed in his kidney but the condition is getting worse, TMZ said.

Read more here.

Nashville musician Bo Bice, who grew up in Cumming for part of his childhood and lived in Birmingham before he joined “Idol,” had major digestive problems while he was competing season four in 2005. I’m going to talk to him at 3:30 p.m. to get his perspective.

Ratings last night was about 16 million viewers with a 4.3 18-49 rating once final numbers are in. This compares to 21.8 million in the comparable results show a year ago and a 6.2 18-49 rating. The Wednesday top 3 performance show drew 17.68 million viewers and a 4.9 18-49 rating. A year ago? 23.56 million and a 7.4 18-49 rating.  That’s 34% drop in 18-49 and 25% for overall viewers, consistent from earlier this year.

I’ll tell you what. I’ve listened to both Madcon and the Four Seasons versions of Beggin’ and PP outdid both of them. And his version was based off The Four Seasons not the Madcon version, and he did not change the melody of that version. That’s something of his I’d buy.

Thanks Rickster, that was TMI! Clicked on link to “Amazing American idol make overs” – and the amazing thing is that all the idols looked better in their before pictures… they couldn’t even find one of JHud’s glorius weight loss snaps.

I would assume they will have a daily monitoring of Phillip’s condition – which could cause serious internal bleeding as well as unmangeable pain at certain times. It’s also possible that he could be unable to perform, in which case – ???

Both Phillip and Jessica have talent for their directions in music, so they will go to the level their genre’s, appeal, Management Company and Media attention will take them, regardless of who wins. Getting a hit song post-Idol will be the key, to launch a better long-term career.

While Jessica has mostly been pushed toward old Diva ballads due to the blanket Idol puts them under – she also has a youthful, feisty, hip-hop “BB Chez” music personality that has been kept under-wraps for the show. It’s that personna that adds a share to her fan club, that hasn’t been seen much, due to old Idol songbooks and the Judges/Producers preference to use old material for the show.

But the older Diva ballads have also helped her gain new support in an older audience from the show. She now has 2 directions she can take, but don’t be surprised if you see some records/video’s coming-out post-Idol, in the Hip-Hop genre.

With the ratings down 25% on the year, I think the buzz about whether J Lopez is going to move-on to other things, —- is that behind the scenes, she has been told to find a way to move-out gracefully — they might even say they will offer a new contract, if she agrees to tearfully turn it down–

Since Randy is the cornerstone of the Judges Panel, he is very likely to be retained, but it’s not a big stretch to see that Steven Tyler could also be replaced, who is now 64 years of age. The younger demographic do not see him as the big star/draw that his music generation does, and he adds very little levity to the show in this season.

I think anyone who doubts that Phil isn’t a fighter has to question that notion. I have heard that his plans are to get the much needed surgery as soon as the show ends which puts all those talk show visits and performances on hold until after he recovers(because, win or lose, he still gets the visits)

I can’t help but feel bad for the guy. Just when things are taking off for him, this happens. He should sit down and have a long talk with Bo, whose career never really took off thanks, in part to the surgery he needed after Idol was over.

Catching up, finally.

Rickster and the Grey’s spoiler… yiiiiiiiikes. No, no one else! Please! Lexie and Teddy are enough. Let poor Arizona ALONE!!

ugh, how I hate cliffhangers.

I want to know what will now keep them all at Seattle Grace?? With Teddy gone, Christina may stay to run the department. And for Owen (ugh.) Why will Mer/Der stay without Lexie, though? Seems less painful to go somewhere without memories. I think Alex might go, and be seen from afar. Seriously, how could he NOT go to Johns Hopkins.

Deirdre – I think you are right, Kat was an even bigger punching bag. I couldn’t believe all the hate… she was gorgeous and had the voice of an angel! And mean to Kellie Pickler, really? I remember reading they were really close. And I know I saw pictures of Kellie in Katharine’s wedding!

G – Nope. Neither Kelly Clarkson nor Carrie Underwood could win the show now. (Hollie really, really reminded me of a young Carrie, and I kept thinking if she’d been on in 2005 in Carrie’s place…. people would’ve adored her.)

Skyhook… I answered you on the last blog but not sure you’ll check back there. So, sorry for the re-post, but just in case: what I said was, I love Phillip’s personality. I have since day 1. I think he’d be great fun to hang out with! My gripe is not with him, but with the system that allows a lesser talent to win over SO MANY greater talents. And with the fact that it’s ceased to be a singing show.

I’d love to see Phillip succeed in his career… I just think THE Idol should be one of the strongest singers.

And more to add on now: I feel sorry for him, being so sick. As I’ve said before, there have been many times you can see it in his face.

But I DO think that if he had needed to leave the show sooner, Idol should NOT have been allowed to penalize him by not letting him go on tour. I’ve read that was a big reason (besides wanting to win) that he stuck with it. Come on Idol, now that is a rule you could have changed…. the kid can’t help it.

I remember getting into a huge argument with a woman posting on mjsbigblog. This woman hated Kat and kept claiming that Kat was being a diva and didn’t really have vocal cord problems when the tour started. When Kat was finally able to join the tour, she was supposed to fly from Newark to Cincinnati for the show that night. Cincinnati had thundrstorms in the early afternoon and Kat’s flight was delayed. She decided that the delay was just an excuse and Kat was being a diva again. I told her that ground delays were common all through the system Caused by storms in one city. She called me a liar and told me she would prove I was lying by checking with her FAA friend. This woman was so determined to believe that Kat was a b*tch that she couldn’t believe anything that would suggest otherwise

It’s so awesome when people know what’s going on in another person’s mind. Especially when they’ve never met before.

Since I just need a sounding board right now, is anyone else tired of seeing weddings on TV shows where the people have their friends ordained online to perform the wedding? Enough already.

Deirdre – I’m somewhat new at this whole blogging thing (just started on this site about 6/7 weeks ago). What is the difference between a live blog and a slow blog? I know…I’m not too bright.

I think the reporter got it wrong. I have never heard of putting a stent IN A KIDNEY. I have renal artery stenosis which is a blockage of the arteries that go to the kidney. You can put a stent in the arteries, but not in the kidney. I love Phillip, and I hope he wins. I am praying he will make it to the finals, and that he will have a wonderful recovery from his surgery. Bless you Phillip!

I think that the downward numbers in viewership has more to do with the judges. Judging from what people say on the blogs, the judges are just awful. I really think that the numbers will fall even more if ST and JLo are still on next season.

For all of you who keep saying that it’s just a rumor that Filipino’s, etc. are “stuffing” the votes for her, I suggest you take a look at the following YouTube video and then decide for yourself why someone who was already voted off from the show one time has managed to now make it to the finale over so many other talented singers. If this video, alone, isn’t enough for some of you to want to at least decide to consider trying to offset some of these votes and return the contest to what it is intended to be known as; “American Idol,” I don’t know what is. While I’m at it, if you notice on the video, it also shows the different time zones so east coast voters can also vote for her during west coast voting times…when those times are normally blocked out. Now tell me, does THAT sound like they aren’t organized and trying to cheat the system?:

This is part of a well organized group that is all over the Internet that is inundating blog sites. They are trying to intimidate everyone who supports other singers by insulting their fans and other singers by I silting them, and trying to claim anyone who didn’t/doesn’t doesn’t support Jessica is a fascist, basically, and keep harping on the fact that Phillip is another “white boy with a guitar,” which is, in and of itself, a racist comment. They are rallying their own troops, so to speak, and this is the ONLY reason Joshua isn’t in the finale against Phillip.

Dee–I am Surgery Nurse so I know you can put stents in a person’s ureters. They are the tubes that connect the Kidneys to the bladder. Everyone has two- right and left. Stent keeps the small tube open, helps heal after kidney stones, strictures, scarring.

I read many posts from fans of 7th place finisher Jessica “Mulligan” Sanchez saying that she didn’t perform as well as she normally because she was “sick” this week. P squared has been struggling for well over a month and still finds a way to perform well. Enough of the “Jessica” excuses already.

Per THR; Haley Reinhart sends well wishes to Phillip, recognizing his health issues and also thinks Jessica is amazing, especially for a 16 year-old.

Joshua says that Phillip & Jessica are like family now, and he’s going to vote for both of them.
…………………………………………………………………….

My opinion, shared by some I watch the show with:

It’s not about the best singer, as one may be the best “rock” singer, another the best “ballad” singer, another the best “R&B/Christian” singer, another the best “falsetto range” singer, another the best “performer” – which is, by some, interpreted to mean; the best singer, etc.

Really good, versatile, technically sound singers like Erika and Elise, only got so far.

Guys with guitars like Chuck Berry, George Benson, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, B.B. King, Freddie Fender, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, etc. — were usually not vocalists that could span the range of ballads – in addition to rock ‘n’ roll – that Elise can.

It’s a popularity contest, and has been for weeks. Songchoice and performance on Tuesday will have a bearing, but the accumulated popularity of the artist will be a major factor, over “who won the night”

Pre-show, the polling odds still slightly favor Phillip, even with the awareness of potential hampered performance due to the kidney disorder and possible fatigue.

Jessica’s BluBunny Fan Club is gearing-up, and say it takes 200 votes apiece to barely move the needle,

Wasn’t it Phillip who said “Fat Bottom Girls, You Make The Rockin’ World Go ‘Round —

Jenny, et al: I was one of the “not a McPhee” fans. I didn’t “hate” her style, as I so very much do Joshua’s, but I guess it’s the same thing Deirdre says about Hollie – I found the sound/tone of her voice unpleasant to listen to. since Grayhair sang songs I like, and sounded ok, I voted for him to win. There just seemed something insincere about McP at the time for me. And when she sang that dreadful “Horse in tree” song, that killed any chance of changing my mind.

Sad Clay didn’t win last night, but he almost doubled Arsenio’s donations. Ms Kelly C sent Clay $10,000 – good for her. You could tell way before the end Trump had already decided – he talked to and asked questions to Arsenio a lot more than he did Clay. Oh, well – moneywise, Clay killed it for his charity.

Caught the Billboard awards last night. Jordin Sparks had the honor of singing one of Whitney’s biggest songs of all time. Her attempt was a bit short of a wet cat falling from a tree. We all heard Jessica do a MUCH better job of “I will always love you” (something like that) earlier this season.

G – yeah, I’m not surprised that Jordin couldn’t handle Whitney. She had absolutely no business winning her season. She was good, but should’ve come in maybe fourth or fifth. She was the first person I can remember to get such over-the-top pimping, and it worked. They got their young teen pop singer…. woo hoo….

Sam – oops, sibling rivalry, I guess. :-) “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” was one of my favorites by Kat! LOL.

Nigel said his favorite for the season was Joshua – perhaps the standing O’s had a little back-room encouragement from Nigel.

It’s also probable that Jessica will get much more support than Phillip – from Joshua’s elimination. They did a pretty good duet during the show earlier and among those who have been on-board with Joshua, they seem to be flowing more toward Jessica, unless they just quit voting period.

So could be a close race this week for the win.
