The two hours of “The Voice” tonight were padded with group sings, Justin Bieber, Lady Antebellum, Hall & Oates, Flo Rida, comedy sketches/promos for “Parks & Recreation” and “Saturday Night Live” and mildly amusing outtakes from the judges. (Because it’s all about them, right?) A couple of the metro Atlanta folks came back to sing a bit: Pip and Sera Hill.

Oh, wait. There was a winner, too.

Carson Daly didn’t start eliminating people until 10:48 p.m. He then dragged out it by interviewing the four of them. Four long minutes later, he finally announced the fourth place finisher: Chris Mann.

Daly said only 0.25 percent separated him from third place, Tony Lucca.

Four percentage points separated the winner and the runner up, a relatively close race. Juliet Simms came in second behind… Jermaine Paul!

Jermaine certainly performed better than Juliet last night. That may have made the difference.

Like last year, I didn’t see this one coming. I just wasn’t a huge fan of his. He was a good singer and a nice guy, but I just never saw him as a star. I was never that invested in the show so I’m not upset of anything. He really wanted it and he earned it.

You really contribute some unbiased journalism here with your reports on The Voice. The show is much more entertaining than the vanilla Idol, but your preference continues to shine through. I’m sorry this show helped contribute to the downfall of your Idol only blog, but fewer and fewer people care about that show. Get over it and report on the show. Don’t really care for the negative slant you always have when discussing this show. You write a small blog for the AJC, your opinion doesn’t matter.

Idol vs Voice Final 4:

1. Tony Lucca > PP

2. Jessica > Juliet

3. Joshua > Jermaine

4. Chris Mann > Hollie

And since Rodney is quite often quoted in other media re Idol, guess his opinion actually does matter to a number of people.

I’m glad “The Voice” has some fans that hate “Idol.” Poor Matt had to take it out on me for some reason simply because I don’t give “The Voice” as much notice.

Predictable results, but I like the top 4, for various reasons. Thank goodness, they got rid of Lindsey Paveo! As my mother would say, she couldn’t carry a tune in a basket. Now, if they can just get rid of Princess Xtina, I MIGHT consider watching it next season. Maybe.

What you guys don;t know is that Adam verbally attacked Christina during rehearsals earlier that day. Adam/Tony picked that song as a jab to Christina. Tony was intending to point to her when singing the B-word. She did not appreciate it and let the producers know. Adam was upset that the producers then forced Tony to drop the B-word from the song. He then verbally attacked Chrstina during rehearsals. Adam was playng nice in front of the camera. Christina stupidly showed her emotions in public so she came off as a B. So glad Tony lost.

Serves Christina right for coming in last place with Chris Mann. She had a better chance of winning if she kept Jessie Campbell on her team. I’m thinking Jessie did something to tick her off, and da beesh got rid of him.

How can “The Voice” possibly compete with “American Idol”? After all, this year AI has both the best singer in America (Jessica), AND the best singer of the past 50 years (Joshua). Just ask the judges……

Hannah: aren’t we lucky that you were right there backstage to hear/see it all and report it so concisely to us. I’d buy Adam as the “bad guy” in this feud about as much as I’d buy Ice creamin the Antarctic or hot mud baths in Saudi Arabia!

Serves Christina right for coming in last place. I edited your first sentence and now it can applied to virtually any competition. For instance:

Talent judges who carry themselves with class. (Christina comes in last place). See how that works?

hannah, I heard a different version of the same story which stated that it was Christina who attacked Adam before the show demanding that Tony not sing that song at all.

Considering that the media has been pointing out Christina being rude to a number of the guest artists, I’m more inclined to believe that version. But, seriously, who really cares. They both tend to be super-egos.

Have a WWF “Main Event” cage match between JstankHo and Christanka. Winner takes bragging rights.

I knew Jermaine would win. Wonderful! I love him. He reminds me of the singer Kym. Smooth and sexy. Juliet was awesome and will go places too! Jennifer Hudson did not win American Idol, so if your favorite didn’t win, they will find success down the road. Don’t worry, be happy.

The competition between celebrity judges makes the contestants little more than pawns in a PR game. For instance, I refused to vote for Chris Mann because he was Christina’s team.

Aliya, interesting. Anwar Robinson didn’t win American Idol and finished Season 4 in the same position as Jennifer Hudson did in Season 3, most people don’t have a clue as to who he is. Success is not guaranteed.

I really didn’t see that one coming. Jermaine was not the best singer in my opinion. He’s pitchy and struggles to add to many runs to his performance. I was surprised that he made it into the final four so winning it bowls me over. I was rooting for Chris Mann.

Once Jesse was bumped off, I lost interest. Jermaine’s voice is nice, but not distinctive enough to really stand out. If you can’t recognize the singer after a couple of notes, you are likely not going to have a long career. I was not really impressed with last year’s final winner either (Colon). The real test to me, is whether I would pay to see them at Chastain Park, or buy their album. This has gotten to be a personality contest more than anything else. They overplayed our sympathy to the point of nausea this year. Enough, already!!!

Carson took so much time before announcing the winner that after naming Jermaine, did you notice he didn’t even mention Juliet at all? Normally he would say something about giving a hand to the second place person. Too much junk before announcing the winner. By the way, Ford take notice! KIA gave all 4 contestants a new car!!!!

I was okay whoever won The Voice. I thought Jermaine and Chris were better the night of the final. The best singer was Jesse Campbell though. I like Juliet the most from the final four but maybe because she was ill she wasn’t as good.
I think all four will get contracts!

What is great about the show is having a coach like Blake take on and KEEP an R&B singer like JP or CeeLo keeping Juliet over Jamar. It’s REFRESHING that race doesn’t play a role in the voting and the winner is determined by things such as downloads instead of a bunch of texting teenages.

If The Voice would go to fan voting with 8 instead of 4 and cut most of the battle rounds out it would be better than Idol IMO. Idol is stale and The Voice is refreshing! The chemistry between the coaches is funny and I enjoy the banter. The only bad thing was Jesse not making the final. But I will buy his CD along with the others who made the Final 4.

I don’t get all the surprised postings today. I knew the first time I heard him he was the one to beat. The show is called “The Voice” and his was in a class by itself. Time will tell how engaging a performer he will become, but he will definitely sell a lot of records with that voice. I thought Juliette came on strong towards the last few weeks of the competition, and I never thought the “opera singer” would make it to the finals, although he may have a career as a josh groban wanna be. I tend to think the voters on “The Voice” have a lot more savvy than “Idol” voters who seem to vote for their faves or on a whim, rather than for the most talented. But to be fair, I am pretty much burned out on the whole genre. Ted Mack, where are you?

IMO, the judges eliminated the people who would have actually won and America had no say in it at all.

“Eternal Flame” by The Bangles

Blech. I’m a big fan of The Bangles, but I never cared for that song. Let me guess, they get the girls to sing that one so they can have Joshua squirm as he sings “This Love” to Phillip? Because last week wasn’t uncomfortable enough for us.

As for the other songs, I’m not going to comment. When I think the list is weak it turns out to be a pretty good show.

It’s a Man’s Man’s World was just sung by Juliet on The Voice and “You Raise Me up” just sung by Chris Mann on the Voice.. Also Chris and Tony are blaming the feud for not winning The Voice.
