NBC picks up J.J. Abrams ‘Revolution,’ shot in Atlanta

As expected, NBC has picked up the J.J. Abrams sci-fi show “Revolution,” according to TVline.com. The pilot was shot in Atlanta.
Abrams, whose biggest TV hit was “Lost,” has created a new series set in the future, in the aftermath of a world where all energy sources have been mysteriously made inoperable. That means no iPhones, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury. Intriguing, eh?
There are no real big names in the show. Three notables are David Lyons (”The Cape”), Billy Burke (”Twilight”) and Giancarlo Esposito (who played the delectable bad guy Gus on “Breaking Bad”). The pilot was directed by Jon Favreau (actor on “Swingers,” director of “Iron Man 2,” executive producer for “The Avengers”).
I do know they shot at least some of the pilot at the Quarry, the same place “The Walking Dead” used in the first season. The show also did some shooting at the Gold Dome.
I do not know if the show will shoot the series in Atlanta or is even based in Atlanta. I should have a copy of the pilot in my hands within the next week or two and I’ll provide more details.
NBC’s recent track record for these types of shows are not good. They had a brief shining moment with “Heroes,” but other shows such as “The Event” and “Surface” didn’t do quite as well.
Three other shows have been reportedly picked up as well by NBC: Ryan Murphy’s ‘The New Normal,” which features NeNe Leakes in a recurring role, “Save Me” starring Anne Heche and “Go On” featuring Matthew Perry. The 2012-13 schedule will be presented on Monday May 14 to advertisers.
Abrams has three other shows on the 2011-12 schedule: Fox’s ‘Fringe” and “Alcatraz” and CBS’s “Person of Interest.” “Fringe” has been given a final 13-episode run next season. “Alcatraz” is on the bubble. “Person of Interest” has been renewed.
We are still awaiting if Fox will pick up the unnamed Kevin Williamson cop drama starring Kevin Bacon. Chances appear to be good.

Revolution was also filing at the state capitol for about a week right after the legislature went out of session.
NBC’s problem with The Event were firmly the fault of the writers and producers having no coherent idea what the show was actually about. It changed every episode. The audience got tired of trying to find form where there was none and left.

They also shot in my neighborhood of Glenwood Park. They used a neighbor’s townhome for 3 days of shooting.

It sounds very similar to “Dark Angel”, the show that starred Jessica Alba. Nothing mechanical worked after an electromagnetic pulse.

I met some lovely folks working on the show. They said only the pilot was being filmed here and if it got picked up it would be filmed in Canada.

Again with Canada! Why can’t these local governments get their acts together and create incentives that keep production here? “No, we don’t need those buckets of money. Take it someplace else.”

@EAM Alcatraz was dog poo from day one I swithed off after the 2nd episode!
@Woody Man up was really good but it got canclled after about 12 episodes just before xmas. Luckily I managed to download all 12 in time.

Actually @Average Minnesotan, we do have our acts together… Drop Dead Diva, Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Necessary Roughness, Single Ladies, My Super Psycho Sweet Sixteen, and The Walking Dead all had pilots shot here in Atlanta and have all stayed for multiple seasons thereafter. Revolution had no ties to Atlanta whatsoever, in fact, the show is set in the Midwest.
