Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’ holds strong on top of Atlanta radio for fifth week

Kelly Clarkson AP

Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” remains unstoppable as the most popular song in Atlanta radio for five weeks.

The original “American Idol” winner has a top song on B98.5 (32 spins), Star 94 (66 spins), Wild 105.7 (87 spins) and Q100 (94 spins). Total the past week: 279 spins.

Katy Perry’s not far behind with 236 spins for “Part of Me,” but isn’t getting as much love at Star 94 (41) or Wild (51) as they are with Clarkson.

Great news for Kelly! After that long spell without a new release, so glad her songs have gotten big.

The girl’s career is back on an upswing. Hit record, TV appearances on “The Voice” and now “Duets.”

@ RodneyAnd speaking of “Duets” – I saw a new ad for the show that showed John Legend.

Wasn’t Lionel Ritchie supposed to be one of the four judges/mentors/whatever?

I see that Clay is still around on Celebrity Apprentice. Good for him.

O/T – my team won on Amazing Race even having to go back and do the roadblocked. They kicked butt and came in first place 8x. So, so, so very happy that “Annoying Rachel” and “Girl hips Brandon” came in last! He’s a wuss and she’s a calculating idiot (a possible oxymoron).

Sam-A

Pitchy: I agree with the “green” team – so glad they didn’t win. But I hated that hateful pilot know it all who treated his poor wife pretty badly. I wanted the border guards to win, especially after they gave the poor old TN guy $5000 from their 1st place win of $10,000 – for his daughter’s medical needs. I feel like had they won, they’d have given the TN guys some of the winnings. They were pretty good guys. The TN guys are almost the only ones ever on this show who were never underhanded or mean to any of the other teams – I feel so sorry for them – both obviously in terrible financial states.

Pitchy

Originally, wanted the TN (wait, I thought they were from Kentucky) friends to win, but one they were out, it was a toss up between the pilot and the border guys. I would have been fine with either one. But, thanks for reminding me about their generosity and giving half their winnings. I wanted the border guys to win too. I was hoping there was a consolation prize for 2nd place. So many got turned around last night.

@Pitchy. The couple that won earned it. They simply outclassed the rest of the bunch across the board. I know everyone gets some money but it’s a major dropoff after the $1 million if this site is true: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081207213756AAm0hbI

Someone said the contestants could sing songs they wish they would have wrote? Here’s a few suggestions:

Joshua – have him sing Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and put his scream, um, I mean “spin” on it.

Phil – Sinatra’s “My Way”

Jessica – Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through The Tulips”. That’s really perfect for Deandre, but since he’s out and Jessica can warble her voice, let her take a go at it.

Hollie – Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing”

Regarding X-Factor: I don’t understand Simon’s reasoning for grabbing three young female washed-up-has-beens. Demi and Miley won’t pull in the young demographic, their former fans are now of the age where they are probably embarrassed by the fact that they went so nuts over those two.

Idol contestants songs they wish they’d written: I will vote for anyone that chooses the Happy Birthday song. The contestants will probably go artsy or pick something that fits their voices, but the honest choice is a tune that brings in mucho dinero.

I haven’t read many posts yet, but Mercedes, re the X Factor… well, I’m pretty unhappy that Simon’s hired some Disney child with no experience (and apparently no singing talent either) to judge. I think that’s an absolute joke.

Britney doesn’t bother me, because it’s good to see that she’s trying so hard to pull herself back after almost going over the edge. I wish her success.

But anyway… I said last season that if the best singer won, then I’d watch again. So I will. And I’ll just hope it doesn’t become unwatchable. :-)

Wait. Did Rodney just say they are looking at MILEY CYRUS to host?

Has Simon lost his mind?

I might have to renege. I really doubt much of anyone would watch the show if that does happen.

Pitchy, I usually love Amazing Race, but for the first time skipped most of this season. (I never set a series recording, kept missing it, and finally just fell too far behind.)

But, I did catch a little bit of the finale last night! My perspective from not knowing anything about them… I liked the couple that won. (Though I guess they didn’t act so great during the season?) I also liked the ones that came in 4th.

However… what the heck? Was that other “Rachel” person (the brown haired one, not the winner) a joke? She was INCREDIBLY NASTY. One of the nastiest I’ve ever seen on that show! (Of course, I’m sure during the “previously on…” clips they picked the most notorious… but ewwww! I was rooting for anyone but her to win!

RoHo…Did you ever do an article about Duets? I see that Kelly Clarkson is involved along with John Legend and other stars. The promotion takes a little aim at Idol (Randy’s pitchy “critique”). I don’t think it’s a huge snub at Idol, but it seems companies feel that though Kelly’s experience, she can finally lead a reality singing show that will surpass Idol.

Still catching up, and just chiming in very late to say I LOVED the TV Guide rant. Thanks, Seth!

@bknsty14 from over the weekend – quote – I so agree with the writer that throughout the competition, Hollie has been the best vocalist (VOCALIST) and will be in the business for many years. I can sleep soundly tonight knowing I wasn’t just imagining things and other people feel the same.

…You definitely weren’t imagining things. There are quite a few of us on here that feel the same. As does my husband, and pretty much all of the group we often watch with.

Sure, there is a minority out there that doesn’t like her voice, but that’s par for the course… it’s true for even the best singers. Heck, I even remember people who didn’t like Carrie during her season! I remember reading or sometimes hearing people say she screamed or was shrill… I always marvelled at how in the world they didn’t hear her talent.

Sam-A

May 7th, 2012
4:39 pm

Congrats, RoHo.

Jenny: She had red hair, always wore a green shirt, ie being dubbed the “green team” and everyone hated them. She was truly a witch.

The #4 group was good – that poor girl sprained her ankle and it was swollen way up, but she got on a really fast treadmill trying to jump up and pull things down hung in the air while staying upright. That’s how they got so far behind. But the two guys were really great most of the time. Gave away half a $10,000 first place price to a poor old Country boy whose daughter has cystic fibrosis, and who needed the money badly. That moved them up to “idol” status for me. Wanted them to win.

The winner gal was nice, but her husband was a c0cky, anal-retentive a-hole. He didn’t deserve it.

Maybe Bopper and Mark were from KY instead of TN – at least one of those states. Two real, sweet, Good Ole Boys. Never been anywhere before the show.

Jenny

Thanks Sam! Yes, I noticed a couple of rather mean things the husband (winner) said last night. Then the girl mentioned trying to save their marriage by coming on the Race, and I kind of thought maybe the husband was the one being a butt.

bknsty14 – yeah, I guess that would be three Disney girls. At least Britney’s been around longer than the others, and she does know how to perform. (Oh, and when I answered you earlier about the TVGuide article, I meant to add that maybe Hollie will pick up some of Skyler’s votes this week! Like you, I am very afraid she’ll be leaving next… but you never know. Remember when Katharine was standing up there with Daughtry?)

Look…. let’s be honest here. X-Factor is a flop. We – well… I – chose a horrible host and two horrible judges. Now.. I’m making my escape plan.

I’m going to sabotage X-Factor, by putting totally unqualified, vapid little tarts on the show… and when it implodes, I’m high-tailing it back to Idol.

Let’s face it. The only ones there who doesn’t have his head up his arse are Ryan and Jimmy. They need me!

bknsty14

May 7th, 2012
5:11 pm

I too think she’ll pick up the Skylar vote, but the PP fans just can’t let him go. I think one of the other three would have to forget the words and storm off the stage crying to save Hollie this week. It’s really a shame, as I really like her voice and it will put a damper on the rest of the season for me. And can I just say one thing that is a negative towards Jessica, as she has nothing to do with it, but more towards judges comments? If I have to hear them say one more time that Jessica is ONLY 16…”It’s hard to believe that you’re only 16″, or “I hear you sing and forget that you’re only 16″. Hollie is 18 years old, only 2 years and a month older that Jessica to be exact. They are both young kids (even though Hollie is old enough to be in the armed forces), though it seems at times they use the you are only 16 as an excuse or crutch for Jessica if she doesn’t do something well. Just an observation. Again, not a rip on Jessica. It’s not her fault that the big 3 are complete idiots.

bknsty14

May 7th, 2012
5:14 pm

that being said, I’ll text “vote” to 570? for Hollie for two hours this Wednesday because I really have nothing else to do on Wednesday nights from 9-11 (10-12 eastern)

(Sucks air through his teeth)… “I don’t know, dawg. For me… for me…. (sucks air through his teeth again)… I’m like, whaaaaaaaaaattt? That was DA BOMB! That was HOT!” (gives standing ovation)

Speaking of Miley, here’s one of her performance videos – , perhaps she could host in this outfit — but then, it’s not quite as bad as J. Lo’s recent video on Idol.

Mercedes S.

May 7th, 2012

Seth, that video of Miley in an itty-bitty swimsuit, was that Rio as in Brazil or Madrid as in Spain?
If Spain, it sure has changed since I was there in my youth, in Madrid, wearing one of the first mini-skirts (2 inches above knee, tops) and being called nasty names by black-clad women in the street.

The Voice is AWSOME tonight. Juliet has the pimp spot and it may pay off for her. If a woman wins The Voice…..Idol has work to do. Juliet does a lot of the same things that Jessica does with her voice (vocal gymnastics), but it’s two different styles. I’ll let you guys ponder that one.

Mercedes S.

May 7th, 2012
10:19 pm

So I’ll call this a post post. Did watch bits of the Voice – imho only one of the contestants has an actual Voice, Chris Mann. Were the other, mediocre performers there to make sure Chris wins?
To me, Tony Luca was another WGWG, Juliet Sims another growly, not very memorable girl, and Jermaine Paul, a nice, but also forgettable, guy.

Seth T

May 7th, 2012
10:29 pm

I watched The Voice tonight too. Has Juliet been in the prime/last spot quite a bit?? Seems like it.

I don’t remember how they line-up the finalist or if they say where they placed in the voting on the final show — but I think Chris Mann will end-up in the top 2, if not win.

He is probable to draw a certain group of voters, while the others are all pretty much all chasing the same rabbit. Juliet is the most fun to watch perform for me, even if her singing was not always the best.

My view: Top 2 = Juliet Simms & Chris Mann
Bottom 2 = Tony Lucca & Jermaine Paul

But I think the 3 guys were all voted straight through in a previous round, while Juliet had to be saved in a sing-off by Cee Lo. – so the same principle may apply — the girl is less likely to win through the popular vote.

@Mercedes – Chris Mann is definitely the most controlled, polished singer of the group. So I guess it’s now up to popularity of the personalities and who’s willing to spend a lot of time on voting or downloading his songs.

Anyone else saw “Smash”? What WILL happen next week? Will Karen find the Ring in Ivy’s bedroom? Did Ellis (Ennis? – character is so annoying I can’t be bothered to remember his name. We call him Sweater-Vest at my house.) poison Rebecca’s smoothie? And who gets to play Marilyn for real??

And why do I care so much? Because it’s a FUN show! And unlike all the other music shows, this one has original numbers.

Morning!

Thanks Mercedes! I’m 2 weeks behind on Smash. At least warn a person before you give a synopsis!

In a recent interview, Stefano Langone claims that he and Pia were “close” during the show but that after she was eliminated, she dumped him for Mark Ballas.

He also says that because the season 9 tour did so badly, the season 10 contestants had to take a pay cut for their tour.

Deirdre – all those “spoilers” have been hinted at in the previews and discussed in ppular media …just as the season ender – one of the “unknowns” will play Marilyn – was touted from the beginning. The Uma Thurman character was always meant as a red herring.

But I will make sure to announce SPOILER ALERT for you in future, Deirdre.

Good morning!

Season nine was the gift that kept on giving, evidently!

I watched The Voice last night again and agree with Mercedes that Chris Mann will win. He’s good, but he’s no Donald B–my guy from AGT season three.

Thanks Mercedes!

Are you still channeling Simon, Rickster?

Harriett, Rodney said in his Tuesday tv blurb in the print edition: This is Juliet Simm’s competition to lose. When you add G’s opinion to Rodney’s apparently the guys like Juliet and the gals like Chris.

I don’t watch AGT much although I’ll check out some of the better competition(usually at Harriett’s suggestion) but I am seriously concerned about Howard Stern

“And what if I am? After all…. I was the only judge on that show who had anything worthwhile to say anyway. And look at what they replaced me with? A drug addled aging rocker and a lady who gives standing ovations and gets “goosies” (whatever those are) for performances that I think are horrible and self-indulgent. And Randy? Please!”

Maurice Sendak?? Are you serious?? Interviewed him once, many years ago. Sweeter man I never met. Grateful and humbled by his success. Thanks, Rickster, even if it is sad news.

D, I felt that way about Juliet until I heard her last night and in comparison to Chris, she does not shine quite as brightly or appear as talented. Chris is easy on the eyes, no doubt, hence the girls liking him best, but his talent is undeniable too. I was definite in my assumption Juliet would win, but do not think she brought it last night.

And, yes, D, I will be your “filter” for AGT this season, so you won’t have to endure all the craziness, but will still get exposure to the good ones. Chris sang “You Raise Me Up” last night, which was Donald B’s signature song on AGT.

As for D.’s “the guy markets himself with sleaziness. How is that going to fit into a family show?”Ahem, there was that icky JLo performance… and aren’t we expecting another one this week?

And, Mercedes, the ever-present bleep for Steven Tyler’s mouth quite often on Idol; not as much this season as last, however. He’s managed to control it a bit better. I would bet there will be plenty of bleeping for Stern, whom I actually do not like at ALL.

Mercedes, yes, JLo’s video was certainly sleezy. I’m sure there were complaints. Just saying, why would AGT pick someone whose only claim to fame is “shock jock”? At least JLo is a singer/dancer/actress. True, she’s not very talented at ANY of those things but her “sleeze-quotient” isn’t quite as disgusting as Stern’s. It’s getting there…..

America’s Got Talent? Howard Stern? Really?

Piers was the only one who had even the remotest glimpse of a clue on that show.

It’s bad enough they’ve got that Howie guy on there. And Sharon Osbourne? The girl’s made of so much plastic she can’t go outside if the temperature is over 72 degrees.

With that Howie fella and Stern, the show should probably be renamed “Amerca’s Best Freak Show.”

I don’t watch “Voice” except as a flip to during commercials, but understand Christina’s demeanor was appalling to say the least. Apparently she hates the Tony guy, who used to be with her in the Disney show they, Britney and Justin T were in together. I’ve been told she’s had a big old grudge against him the whole show, and last night was extremely rude, including talking on a cell phone during his performance, then ripping him for his song as being “sexist” and “anti women”, when apparently it was Adam who chose the song. (don’t know what the song was). She’s worse or at least on par with our burden of JLo and ST! Loathsome to say the least.

Christina was all-around disrespectful of most everyone last night. And, she appeared in a dress that rivaled the notorious one JLo wore to the Grammys that time. She was literally spilling out of it. There just had to be double-sided tape somewhere, thus preventing a major wardrobe malfunction.

She was texting during some performances, mostly Tony Lucca’s, whom, as Sam referenced, she absolutely has a grudge against. Makes me wonder if she had a mad crush on him as a youngster and he turned her down. She was totally disgusting. And, Tony sang “99 Problems,” by Jay-Z. He changed the lyrics not to say “b*tch, however.

Isn’t AGT Simon’s show?

Howard will be AGT’s Steven Tyler, say a few shocking things to get people to watch. He’s no more lothsome to me than Simon is.

Forgot to mention the verbal spat between Christina and Adam last night. The word is that they’ve been sparring back stage for some time. It bubbled over last night when Tony Lucca (Team Adam) performed his own rendition of “99 Problems[and a B#!ch aint one]” (Jay Z). I must say Tony did a great job, and I did support him last night [along with Juliet]. Yeah he’s a WGWG, but he was very entertaining (different that PP).

But anyway, Christina felt the song was sexist, and Tony should’ve taken that into account; being that his wife and Daughter were in the audience. Adam responded by explaining why it wasn’t sexist and that it represented struggle. Christina responds: “A b!#ch ain’t one is not sexist?” Adam responds: “Haven’t you heard of a metaphor?” The Adam rips his top layer shirt off and then sports a “Atina” or “Adina” T-shirt underneath. The crowd goes wild!

Juliet’s last performance was her best. I enjoyed most of all the duets. Blake and Jermaine was my favorite with “Soul Man”.

My thoughts on who will win:

1. Juliet Sims – She’s just so strong and consistent.
2. Jermaine Paul – He has a HUGE fan base.
3. Chris Mann – Probably gained more fans last night. Dark horse to win.
4. Tony Lucca – Most controversial. Probably lost a few women and gained a couple of male votes [for what it's worth].

Just like Idol………It’s not always about the best voice, especially when it comes to America’s free choice of votes.

Thanks RHO. That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. When the camerman panned to her backside, all I could do is “gasp.” She should have been more concerned about her knockers falling out of that dress. Why so many women in Hollywood feel the need to show so much cleveage is beyond me. It’s not even sexy anymore because it’s the norm. More often it’s met with a frown and not a smile. No one wants to see all that. Wait, wait, I’m speaking from a woman’s point of view. Sorry, Carry on!
