Keyshia Cole returns with another BET reality show ‘Family First’

Atlanta-based R&B singer Keyshia Cole raised her profile in 2006 by joining a reality show “The Way It Is” on BET, which featured her drama queen mom Frankie Lons and equally histrionic sister Neffeteria Pugh. On the show, Coles herself was the voice of reason.
After three seasons, Cole called it a day, wanting to focus on her music career without TV cameras in tow. Musically, she had a good run, her first three albums all going platinum, generating 10 top 10 singles on the R&B chart.
But her 2010 album, “Calling All Hearts,” generated no hits. She has since gotten married and had a son. Her profile has dimmed.
So Cole is returning to the reality show well with a BET program featuring her husband, NBA player Daniel Gibson called “Family First.”
Deadline.com broke the story but provided no time frame when the six-episode series will debut.
A reality show of this ilk was unusual six years ago because Cole was not a washed-up celebrity but a rising star. But nowadays, this style of reality show is a dime a dozen. Even the use of the word “family’ in its title is hardly original. There was the short-lived Atlanta-based BET show “Toya: A Family Affair” and WE-TV’s current hit “Braxton Family Values,” to name a couple.
In fact, Coles broke open the floodgates for Atlanta-based female artists to do reality shows, including Monica, Toni Braxton (since moved to Los Angeles), Kandi Burruss and Chilli of TLC, to name a few.
Coles’ first show even generated a spin-off show featuring her mom and sister. Interestingly, Frankie and Neffe were far more entertaining to watch than Cole herself though that show only lasted one season. Cole is using the producer, James DeBose, she used for the first series.

Love Kiesha Cole’s voice. Unless she’s chewing silver gum, this picture shows her fillings. She needs to fix that. Also, she’s a pretty girl, time to leave the “baby hair” look alone at her age.

Lots of cosmetic surgery (like many black female celebs today–shame they don’t think their God-given noses are good enough) since the old KC days, but she needs some money so…here we go again. More black ignorance on [reality] TV.

I don’t think this show will make it. There probably won’t be enough “hot ghetto drama” to keep it moving. Keshia, from what I gathered watching her first reality show is a calm, positive, caring influence that does not mesh well with today’s “bad-attitude-fighting-back-stabbing-show-your-ass” reality genre.
And I agree with A Fan…this is not a flattering picture AT ALL. Keshia is a lovely young woman but this pic sucks (pun intended)!
