‘Idol’ fans: talk amongst yourselves

I’m off Monday and Tuesday. Feel free to use this space to talk about “Idol” stuff until I’m back Tuesday evening from the West Coast.

Deirdre will surely be your guide and your confidante on breaking news.

Although I completely botched my prediction last week, I did have Elise Testone on the bottom of my Power 6 last week. The week before, I had Colton Dixon at the top.

At this point, we know each singer’s strengths and weaknesses. Will someone do something as gutsy as Bo Bice did during the top 3 show and sing a capella on a song hardly anybody knew? Will someone screech their way out like Danny Gokey on that Aerosmith song?

My power 5

1. Phillip Phillips. Although he was just okay last week and picked a Dave Matthews Band song that only big Dave Matthews Band fans would have embraced, he remains the only contestant who has never been in the top three. Colton’s absence appears to have helped him. These two factors should help him get to the finals and a possible victory the way things are going. (last week – 1)

2. Jessica Sanchez. Despite her low vote count, now three weeks in the past, she has remained safe the past two weeks. Her fan base will likely not be so complacent again. I’m just not clear if Hollie leaves next, will that help Jessica? (last week 2)

3. Joshua Ledet. Last year, Jacob Lusk finished fifth. I did a poll on the live blog and the fans were split between him and Jacob. I generally prefer Joshua though his full throttle style doesn’t always move me. Still, he has only been in the bottom three once and he is beloved by the judges. (last week 4)

4. Skylar Laine. I am a big fan of hers but the fact she landed a second time in the bottom three last week indicates some weakness in support despite a good week. I’m a big country music fan and I appreciate her Reba-esque style. (last week 3)

5. Hollie Cavanagh. I think she also had a very good week last week and being in the pimp spot, I think, saved her. I’m not sure what she can do to get past the other four at this stage, since she’s been in the bottom three four times now. She has improved over the weeks and is singing with more emotion but she seems to have gotten as far as she could. (last week 5)

- Before I left, I did see Ryan Seacrest signed a deal with NBC which will. Though he will still host red carpet events, he will no host E! News daily, and stopped doing it when “Idol” started in January anyway. Besides doing work at the Olympics, as previously announced, he will be a special correspondent for the “Today” show and provide content for prime-time, too, though the network wasn’t too specific. Interestingly, this means he will now be active on Fox (”American Idol”), ABC (”Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve”) and NBC.

In Victorian England maybe “patootie” was risque, but that was over 100 years ago.

Sorry to confuse you. I was scheduling it for a little later and accidentally posted it 12 hours earlier. So I just made it live in real time. I’m about to board the plane back to the ATL in a few mintues…

Carrie Underwood gave a live concert this AM on ABC. I’m surprised that missed the blog radar.

Almost forgot my Rx joke!

A nice, calm and respectable woman went into a pharmacy, looked the pharmacist straight in his eyes & said, “I would like to buy some cyanide.”

The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”

The woman replied, “I need it to poison my husband.”

The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he exclaimed, “Lord, have mercy! I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband! That’s against the law! My license! They’ll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen! No! You CANNOT have any cyanide!”

The woman reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.

The pharmacist looked at the picture and calmly replied, “Well, now, that’s different. You didn’t tell me you had a prescription.”

I wanted to say for the Carrie Underwood concert on GMA this morning, but had to get the girls to school (my child and neighbor’s child). Go to same school so it didn’t make sense that we always leave together going to the same place. I called her up and asked if she want to take turnsm one week in one week out. Otherwise, I would have seen it.

D, I have this station on all the time, and it so happens to be the one that broadcasts “On Air” with Ryan Seacrest. And, MP, there is a really nice message in the song. You probably wouldn’t appreciate it anyway, having said what you did.

@Deirdre’s 10:04 comment. Yeah, I guess if I was part of the Idol mainstream, I wouldn’t have much of a problem with anything. My problem is probably more with the system than the maistream. A good system can bring “balance” to a biased mainstream.

MyPatootie’s joke reminds me of the old “Laugh-In” skit where Artie Johnson’s old man sits on the bench next to Ruth Buzzie’s “old lady” character.

He says “Do you believe in the hereafter?”
She replies “yes I do.”

As he starts to put the moves on her he says, “Care to guess what I’m here after?”

Rickster – it’s uncanny how you brought up Laugh-in and Artie and Ruth Buzzie. Just last week, I was in the hallway here at work fumbling with my purse. A coworker was laughing at me and I told her if she remember the show Laugh-in and Ruth Buzzie. Told her that’s how I feel I look whenever I carry this purse. That night, I threw it in the garbage. I felt so old every time I carried it. I look too good to carry such an awful purse (lolololol).

And about the mainstream issue. Quote from G @9:55 a.m. – “Idol mainstream failed to vote Daughtry and Lambert as winners. That tells me a lot about the mainstream…” Well put. That’s what I’ve been getting at forever. The short-sightedness of the mainstream. Forever my biggest frustration with ANY of these shows. :-)

And I also hate how the mainstream seems to blindly worship Angelina Jolie. I can’t stand her. All the adoptions and donated money in the world can’t change the fact that she intentionally set out to steal someone else’s husband…

But back to Idol’s case… G, I also agree with you that the system could balance a biased mainstream. But to do that, they’d have to give in and fix what’s broken.

After all, is anyone *really* impressed when Ryan yaps and babbles about “over 80 MILLION votes came in!!! The most we’ve EVER had!!!!!” I know I’m not… ;-)

Also to “Jenny”, sorry, was not ignoring you last week. I was “indisposed” when you posted a couple of posts to me, and I was impressed with your knowledge of country music, especially some of the older good ones. I didn’t see them until the following day as I had a lots going on.

Twin sister Jenny: I can’t stand Angelina J either! Goes back to wearing the ampule of the creepy guy she was married to’s blood around her neck, and kissing her brother on the mouth onstage, et al. Didn’t help any that I really like and admire Jen Anniston! AJ can’t do enough of her publicity-stunt charity stuff to assuage my feelings about her.

Rumor has it that an old beat-up World War II type airplane has crashed in Guatemala and it had about 50 people on it with no identification. The authorities think it was probably loaded with illegal immigrants headed to the USA, or Mexico so they could enter rather easily on foot. The quandary now is that they don’t know where to bury the survivors. Anyone got any suggestions for them? They say they want to do the right thing.

Jenny

Oh my gosh Sam, my thoughts EXACTLY! (Are we surprised? ;-) )

I always thought she was creepy with the blood necklace and all that too. And I adore Jennifer Aniston. I once saw an interview with Angelina where she admitted she purposely set out to seduce Brad, and even tried to get pregnant while he was still married, to ensure that he’d leave Jen. Grrrrr!! Nope… no amount of publicity stunts can help her in my eyes.

Update on Patrick D’s rescue. Two teens crashed just outside his gates in Malibu. He heard the crash and ran out with a crow bar and fire extinguisher. The car was on its roof. With the crowbar he was able to get the kids out safely and call for ambulances. He also called the parents of both kids and told them what had happened and where they were being taken. The car was leaking fuel, but no fire. Good guy! Tom Cruise has done a few rescues, as has George Clooney.

I think pretty low thought of Mr. Pitt as well – just as slimy, though it’s more expected of a dude than a gal.

Jenny

Pitchy… I don’t know! It was an awfully fake-looking ultrasound, wasn’t it? But there was no reference made to the baby being so huge. Just that he’s developing without a brain and will die as soon as he’s born. And she mentioned it almost in passing… how she would think God was playing a sick joke on her but she couldn’t imagine a God that would let this happen.

The little girl whose sister stabbed her finally got to Amelia, though. She finally went in and talked to the parents, who wanted to donate all her organs so that something good would come out of the tragedy. Then Amelia went and told Jake that she wants the same thing for her baby’s life, and will he help her to be healthy so the baby can help others.

Sorry for the book. Watch the very beginning and they might recap. It was pretty intense, the scenes where she broke down about it.

Jenny

Sam, agreed. Though I think it’s worse that she intentionally went in to get what she wanted, with no regard. Yeah… She could adopt an entire underprivileged nation, and underneath she’d still be awful. Why do people LIKE her? It bugs me.

Jenny

That’s what I’m thinking, Pitchy. Just a bad prop. Though usually they pay more attention to detail than that…

Maybe they were trying to make sure those without HD could tell that Addison was looking at the baby??? Though I don’t think we could’ve missed that giant baby even if watching on a two inch screen. ;-)
