‘Idol’ fans: talk amongst yourselves

AMERICAN IDOL: Elise Testone (L) is eliminated on AMERICAN IDOL airing Thursday, April 26, (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Also Pictured: Ryan Seacrest. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

I’m off Monday and Tuesday. Feel free to use this space to talk about “Idol” stuff until I’m back Tuesday evening from the West Coast.

Deirdre will surely be your guide and your confidante on breaking news.

Although I completely botched my prediction last week, I did have Elise Testone on the bottom of my Power 6 last week. The week before, I had Colton Dixon at the top.

At this point, we know each singer’s strengths and weaknesses. Will someone do something as gutsy as Bo Bice did during the top 3 show and sing a capella on a song hardly anybody knew? Will someone screech their way out like Danny Gokey on that Aerosmith song?

My power 5

1. Phillip Phillips. Although he was just okay last week and picked a Dave Matthews Band song that only big Dave Matthews Band fans would have embraced, he remains the only contestant who has never been in the top three. Colton’s absence appears to have helped him. These two factors should help him get to the finals and a possible victory the way things are going. (last week – 1)

2. Jessica Sanchez. Despite her low vote count, now three weeks in the past, she has remained safe the past two weeks. Her fan base will likely not be so complacent again. I’m just not clear if Hollie leaves next, will that help Jessica? (last week 2)

3. Joshua Ledet. Last year, Jacob Lusk finished fifth. I did a poll on the live blog and the fans were split between him and Jacob. I generally prefer Joshua though his full throttle style doesn’t always move me. Still, he has only been in the bottom three once and he is beloved by the judges. (last week 4)

4. Skylar Laine. I am a big fan of hers but the fact she landed a second time in the bottom three last week indicates some weakness in support despite a good week. I’m a big country music fan and I appreciate her Reba-esque style. (last week 3)

5. Hollie Cavanagh. I think she also had a very good week last week and being in the pimp spot, I think, saved her. I’m not sure what she can do to get past the other four at this stage, since she’s been in the bottom three four times now. She has improved over the weeks and is singing with more emotion but she seems to have gotten as far as she could. (last week 5)

- Before I left, I did see Ryan Seacrest signed a deal with NBC which will. Though he will still host red carpet events, he will no host E! News daily, and stopped doing it when “Idol” started in January anyway. Besides doing work at the Olympics, as previously announced, he will be a special correspondent for the “Today” show and provide content for prime-time, too, though the network wasn’t too specific. Interestingly, this means he will now be active on Fox (”American Idol”), ABC (”Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve”) and NBC.

Morning. I’m emotionally drained, almost unhinged inside.

Anybody have any jokes?

“they put Tony Lucca on with a side-story with his wife & child, Mr.Mom kudos — then he does a song with 2 hot women in a sexy thrill song ”

I noticed that too Seth. And I thought to myself “are they trying to sabotage this guy?”. If he hadn’t of performed so well and made me like a song I never knew, then he would of been in big trouble. That editing job made him look like a sleeze with those girls.

Every time I post today it hops in front of whatever post I’m responding to. Hope that going to the next page fixes that.

And re Elise’s “bed jacket”….each to his own. Our parents thought we wore some pretty hideous stuff. I usually keep my mouth closed about the latest fashion trends as long as the hooker chic style doesn’t walk in my front door.

Guest mentor this week is Stephen Van Zandt from Springsteen’s band. I guess Idol doesn’t really care anymore if the mentor matches the theme.

Yes ma’am, bad day yesterday, this past weekend, single parent issues, great kid, but sometimes I just want to drop her off in the woods and RUN.

Other than that, I’m good (lol). Just typing that made me smile. Almost like talking it out makes one feel better, seems like typing it out can have the same affect (lol).

Enjoyed The Voice last night. I really enjoyed Katrina’s “Killing Me Softly” (Lauren Hill version) and Juliet’s “It’s a Man’s World” (James Brown). Juliet really made that song her own. Even though it was a rock version, it was very well done and interpreted.

The Voice really does a good job in supporting their rock acts. I believe this year’s winner will be a rock act (i.e. Jamar or Juliet).

Idol mainstream failed to vote Daughtry and Lambert as winners. That tells me a lot about the mainstream, moreso than the producers of the show.

Good morning all! Boy, this new program they’ve begun here has kept me hopping. About caught up with reading your latest posts.

I don’t care who wins at all. I am just enjoying the show. I did watch The Voice last night and enjoyed the performances, but still have not warmed to it.

Pitchy, girl, what’s up? Sorry to hear you are kind of down.

JT: My opinion as a woman, Blake L is very attractive in an unusual and sophisticated way. She was beautiful when a teen in “Sisterhood of….Pants”. Who knew Mila Kunis, at 15 on “That 70’s Show) would turn out so pretty!

Miranda would be pretty if she had bigger eyes – they always look so squinty. I always look at eyes in my “beauty assessments”. JLH – She does have a large “rack”, but she’s also got a big butt (guess some guys like it, women not so much) and thighs, and I just find her face not too pleasant to look at. But Deirdre said one of her sons adores her, so guess it’s, as I said above, to each his own vision of what “beauty” actually is.

Hope today is a better day for Pitchy.

As for paring up good guys with sleazy girls, didn’t Idol try to do something like that with Joshua and slithering near-nude dancers?

As for fashion, on “Idol” and elsewhere, I like that Philip sticks to what he’s comfortable in. As for hooker style-chic, NYT had a story last week on “prosti-tots”, young girls dressed up in rap-video garb. Pretty nasty. And expensive – $1,000 dresses for 8-year olds?

G, do a sense some contempt for “mainstream” tastes, cuz I’m pretty sure that’s where all the money is. We can all love our indy favorites but, unless they’re making some cash, they won’t be around long.

Harriet, I think I’m with you on not caring who wins anymore. I’m just enjoying the show. Wait, that’s not true, because although Joshua is a good singer, I don’t want him to win.

Sam, I’d put JLH in my top three list, if I had such a list, and it has nothing to do with her chest. I’ve heard people taking about Blake which is why I included her. As everyone says beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Miranda still makes most attractive women look rather pedestrian. She still doesn’t crack my top three which really only consists of two because I can’t think of a third.

Pitchy: Sorry for your problems! From ready her essay, I know you’ve got a really morally great kid, who loves and appreciates her Mama. But seems like all teens, even us, get fed up with “parental guidance” sometimes and feel like they’re being smothered. And I hope your ex hasn’t presented you with some perilous problems, as I know some do. Let’s just hope your lovely girl gets that scholarship and that’ll make things a lot better, I’m sure.

In many cases, guys and gals have totally different views on whats pretty and what’s not so much. Funny though, women can totally recognize and admire beauty in women, but guys have a really hard time admiring the looks of other guys.

For me, the most handsome man on earth right now is the glorious Argentine Polo player doing the Ralph Lauren ads – too yummy for words. Blindingly gorgeous.

Deirdre, thanks. Yeah, you’re right. I would surmise most parents have felt that way a time or two (lol). And since there hasn’t ever been any news reports on children dropped off in the woods, guess it’s just a thought (lol).

Sam-A, thank you. Yeah, she’s a good one and I am thankful. All teens “try” and breakout at some point. Well, I’m building a dungeon today.

Anybody have any tequila. That should help my day go smoother. I kid, I kid, kinda sorta…

“Funny though, women can totally recognize and admire beauty in women”

No. Admire maybe. However, they would like to think they can recognize, but they can’t.

When it comes to me as a man recognizing beauty I’ll admit that I can’t do it. I’ve been trained by society as to what male beauty is, so I can make a stab at it, but anything outside the stereotypical attractive male and I’m lost. It’s the same for me with women who appear like they belong in a beauty pageant. I don’t like the look, but I’ve been conditioned by society to consider those women to be beautiful even if I’m not attracted.

Is Chris Rene’s “Young Homie” getting airplay in Atlanta. It is getting pretty heavy play on Columbia radio. I kind of like it, too. He’s the first one of any of the shows last year to have something currently being played. And, he didn’t win. ;)
