Joshua is R&B with a gospel influence. It’s possible to win. Kelly Clarkson won singing R&B. Ruben won singing R&B and Fantasia (who has gospel influence) won singing R&B.
Yes, it is taste. I just think that if it’s not your taste, people shouldn’t knock the quality of the voice.

I agree Rugged. I am a country music fan and I listen to country music most of the time and I would never buy one of her songs.

The vocal runs, performance, etc. It amazes me that people who like rock call the gospel singers shouty and the people who like gospel call the rock singers tinny and screechy. They are both power singing but in different ways.

Holler…Joshua is not in the league with Ruben, Fantasia or Kelly….Fantasia may scream but she screams with harmony…Joshua screams as if he is trying to get the notes out with no control. There is nothing you can say to me about Joshua that would make me like his singing !!!

I like Hollie’s voice the best and enjoy listening to her. I like the sound quality of Elise, but not always what she does. Skylar is just plain country which will get her far in life. Phil will get a record deal, whether I like him or not, but he is not the best on this show. Jessica just annoys me. She has no low register and sounds bad when she does it, but her upper register is great. Joshua is good right up until he starts screaming and that is just too much for me. I hope Hollie wins, but she won’t.

I told my child she was “pitchy” and her runs were weak. Go and pick a song “I” as her audience can connect to (LOLOLO). As with DWTS, I give her an 8.

It’s incredible how much Idol wants another black person to win this show. The judges mentality, “Oh Joshua just finished…time to stand up. Wow Skyler sang incredibly and we loved it the most…but we can’t can’t stand up because it would help others win”

The bias is at an all time high…it’s one of the most insulting thing I’ve seen on this show.

I think this is one of the few years where people are so divided between the six finalist. It is pretty evenly split. For me: Hollie, Phillip, Elise, Joshua, Skylar, Jessica. I know Jessica is good, but she is right for Broadway, not AI. Anyway, just my humble opinion. This is a fun year!

Here’s my humble opinion….I don’t like country but Skylar has stage command that others are lacking; Jessica and Hollie need time to mature but, dang!, they will be amazing; Elise is better in a smaller venue deal but still has the Stevie Nicks crowd; Phillip….well, I love listening to and looking at the boy; and Joshua will have the R&B crowd wrapped up along with gospels. No losers here!

Rugged,
People don’t have to convince you. All the artists who have come on that show, plus Jimmy, plus the judges seem to agree that he is a talent. In fact, if you play back THEIR commentary, they seemed to be blown away.

bknsty14 – I look at it a different way. I don’t think they’re pushing for a black singer to win. I think they’re pushing for one to be voted off. No doubt, AI has been given the feedback on the judge’s wishy washy, pansy wansy comments for their favorites. The more they favor someone, the less votes that person gets. Reversed psychology is my take on their comments.

I like all the singers, I think they do a really good job, some a little better than others. Is it just me or does it seem that Randy and Jlo are pushing for Joshua to win? I am really getting sick of Randy standing up and forceing Steven and Jennifer to stand up too. Every week, every song from Joshua gets a standing O from Randy. Its really showing that he wants Joshua to win. I think he sings O K but most of his songs has a lot of screaming. I wouldnt buy his songs, too boring. But I really think that you better get ready for him to win, I think its already been decided.

Hollar, if the judges knew what they were talking about then we wouldnt all be complaining about them on here…and those on the show talking about him are just saying what they have to say in front of the camera…get real !!! Joshua is a screamer plain and simple. And yes there are those who like to listen to his screams and good for them but he is not that good of a singer period !

holler23

Um, Adrian—they may be pushing the talent of the artist, not the color. You say “another” like there have been a string of them. Out of the 10 seasons, what, 3? Out of the 10 seasons, how many girls? How many times are we going to get a white boy with a guitar? They are just looking at the talent. Geez.

I’d pay a $5 cover to go to a bar where Phil was singing. Some original some cover songs, but American Idol, buy his record? No. If he wins, he;ll be the 5th straight young whit guy and that’s just wrong. Really want a girl, even if it is Jessica. Would prefer Hollie because she just has a voice that I love.

RRK – “Why are the judges head over heals for Joshua? I just don’t get it? Am I alone in this?”

The reason is because the marketing group for American Idol are the same group that are doing the publicity for President Obama. The goal, to get as many black people on TV as possible…and if one can win Idol, that’s a lot of millions getting a positive impression. It’s politics unfortunately RRK.
Of course, this is the “root cause”, I assure you the judges don’t realize that. Only the producers and owner probably know of this.

WGWG -White Guy With Guitar

He’s (Phil) the only guy left (I’m looking to you Joshua). Still would prefer a girl. The last non-WGWG winner was a black girl.

I think the artists who have come on have been quite frank (even though polite) in their opinions. I don’t think Jimmy has once lied about his. Now you throwing the judges under the bus. I mean, I think they could recognize true talent. Or okay just fire them. You have to remember though, a lot of the judges (Akon, Will.i.am and Mary J.) were R&B singers. They LIKED him. Geesh.

Adrian

April 25th, 2012

holler23 : That’s exactly the reason that this show wants another black winner. There haven’t been enough or been one lately. Why would the reverse make any sense?

In response to reverse psychology…that is EXACTLY what is / will happen. However, truthfully I assure you the judges and producers aren’t too clever about this subject…so they will be in for a nasty surprise once Joshua is voted off.

Adrian,
You are talking nonsense now. You don’t need a lot of blacks on TV to get a positive impression—despite the many negative portrayals perpetuated. This is an ENTERTAINMENT show. Do you have to bring in politics.

Does this show really have3 fair judges…..Imagine they are telling America to vote for the best not just for the one that’s cute….Then they constantly criticize Hollie and stand for Joshua who I really like because he is very humble nut as others have said hard to pull for him with this much bias….Please bring back Simon…..Time for Jessica or Elise to “Hit the road Jack”

holler23

Okay. I get what you are saying about the fact that there haven’t been R&B singers lately, Adrian. But maybe they are pushing them because they REALLY see their talent despite the genre.

Well if you are thinking that it is that deep, then better AI then ALEC is all I’m sayin…

Rugged

Ramblin, you are just rambling. Hollie should hit the road and so should Elise. Jessica is a great singer and Joshua is NOT !…And I agree 100% about this political and race issue here…lets get real. I am going to reserve any more comments about Joshua because I would hate for him to read any more negative talk if he happens to follow any blogs. But he is not the Idol. Jessica would be a great representation and change for once as an IDOL.

Elise had one of her better nights. The Hendrix song I liked, but it is a tough song to do. But she rocked her Queen song.

Judging from the range of comments that we weren’t all watching the same show. I think there were a lot of wrong song choices tonight, but everyone sounded pretty well considering. Elise picked too wrong songs, but the first was okay despite that. I look for her to go home this week.
Skylar had two very good performances. Jessica did well with both, but her second choice was beautiful.
Hollie finally nailed one. I hope it was enough to keep her another week.
Phillip, (just shaking my head back and forth). I would never buy a song of his. Glad the bio piece made him out to be the lazy slob he really is.
Jacob didn’t wow me tonight, but I enjoyed them both. I went on iTunes hoping to find his version of Runaway Baby from a few weeks ago. Bummed that it wasn’t. I’d not heard Bruno Mars version so I listened to it and preferred Jacob’s! I listened to clips of his other songs without visuals to distract me. I am now 100% a Jacob fan.
Not sure about the judges pulling for him to win because of the color of his skin. I don’t care if he is purple, the boy is AMAZING. I would like to see a girl win again someday, so if Skylar or Jessica takes the title I won’t be too disappointed.
I think I used all 50 of my online votes tonight for the first time.

They are all great singers—Joshua included.
I don’t think it’s a political thing. If it’s the case, then surely they are going about it in the wrong way. a black shouldn’t win. I mean so many people are scared that the minorities are going to take over with the Obama presidency. They are even considering a black Bachelor! That will scare the bejesus out of so many people. Bad political move… LOL
