Insecure, intermittently humorous, intermittently annoying Heejun Han is out.

He sealed his fate with a series of really boring performances, followed by a silly Billy Joel goof that Steven Tyler hated. He did up his game a few notches last night but it was clearly too late. His fate was sealed. He knew he had no way of winning this. His voice, as Jimmy Iovine noted, simply wasn’t good enough and his overall stage presence was lacking.

Comedy? Well, we know he’s got a future in Funny or Die videos. We’ll see if he can do anything beyond fading into the woodwork.

Jimmy Iovine’s thoughts:

- Elise: “She took charge of that stage. She led the band. Her hair, her clothes, her vocal ability, it all moved in unison… She has an opportunity with the 80s next week to have two great weeks in a row. If she can do that, she can be in the top of the class. She was a dark horse but now she’s coming on strong.”

- Phillip: “[Steve Nicks] believes in this guy. She thinks he can go all the way. If his original material is 80 percent as good as he is, he is the next American Idol.”

- Hollie: “What she lacks is experience. What she’s doing is technically right and emotionally behind the pack. Jessica takes it more soulfully. Hollie has more an intellectual approach. You don’t win on technique. You win it on soul.”

- Colton: “Colton was good but not good enough… I believe he lost that fight. He didn’t get knocked out but he’s behind on points.”

- Joshua: “This is a tough one for me. He has so much talent. He delivered 85% of the song but when he got emotional. he lost it. His voice closed. On the other hand, when he was in the Michael Jackson medley. He was relaxed. He killed that.”

- Heejun: “It’s great to see Heejun come back. I don’t think it was enough. My problem, I don’t think he sings as well as the other eight contestants on this show.”

- Skylar: “She picked a character song than a song with real melody. She’s going to have to go to songs with more song in them melodically… During the medley, she rose above the pack.”

- DeAndre: “I’m not going crazy for him. I’m not disliking him. For him to win, I think he’s missing something. He needs more experience. His falsetto is beautiful but it could be polarizing.”

- Jessica: “She’s like she’s been doing this for 10 years… She got lost in that song but kept her composure. I’m fully on board with this… What we need is a little girl power [to vote.]”

- The Ford music video: fun to see everyone in 1980s metal gear.

- Nicki Minaj “Starships” : Great, catchy song. Ridiculous outfit as always.

- Scotty McCreery “Water Tower Town” : A year on the road and he is much more self assured. The song is decent. You liked him last year, you’ll still like him now.

- The mansion: architecturally dull but spacious, of course.

Cover it live polls

- Grade Nicki: A-5%, B-26% C-26% F-42%

- Grade Scotty A-16% B-42% C-16% F-26%

Will they save Heejun: 93% No (and correct)

Hollie in bottom three: Expected 44% Travesty 56%

“He could f@rt in the microphone and they would give a standing O.”

I’m not sure about who this was referrng to, but I feel this way about PP. That guy could f@rt on the mic, spit gasoline on a fire, and people would still vote for him. Although when he sings, he sounds like one long f@rt over good music.

Maybe, G, it’s because people actually really like Philx2. Just as some people really like Jessica. And others really like (ugh) Deandre.

Phil will win and it won’t even be close.

Elise will get a contract, she and Crystal Bowersox need to form a new Indigo Girls-style group. They would be incredible.

Deandre has zero business being on television at all. The fact that he made it and David Leathers Jr. didn’t is a complete joke.

Speaking of DL JR., he would be in the top 8 still if he had made it.

Glad Heejun is gone. Sayonara.

Steven Tyler and J-Lo need to go away. Randy is cool and needs Simon back.

Alpert from the Island, out!

Richard, I tend more to deafness and hardening of the arteries when MakesmeSICK is “singing”. Plus a bad case of hypertension.

Felt sorry for Hollie, as Randy is bound and determined to plant the seeds of doubt in voters’ minds. He obviously wants her out of the way for Jessica. She did a very good job with Carrie’s song, and I can remember Carrie on the show having worse nights than this one. Jess is very, very good, but not exciting for me yet. They want her to win, if not Joshua. Joshua is not my cup of tea. Cannot stand his gospel screech at all, and he has no stage appeal. Churches would welcome him, however. Elise is excellent, but just doesn’t connect with the audience as well as some. VERY talented girl though. Haley had the same problem, and she was FAR better than Lauren on the show. Lauren got all the pimping. Scotty was just too cute not to win!! Phil has lots of musical ability in many ways, but this is a singing contest, and his voice is not perfect. However, not many on the radio are at all, so he could be a huge success. He has the look too. Colton is very attractive, and that Piano Man song was made for him. What a terrific job. This week was good too, and young girls will surely be voting for him. Skylar didn’t appeal to me this week, but she has a decent country voice. Just cannot hide that twang for other than country though, and I doubt she can win. Deandre’ has a unique sound, but he needs to change it up a bit. Singing falsetto for an entire song grates on my nerves. Believe he will go next, unless he sings in normal tones, with a dab of falsetto next week. The judges will probably push to get Hollie out of the way though.

I don’t get the Skylar love. There’s no screaming in country. She performs as if she is receiving random electric shocks. She’s not as pretty and sweet as Lauren from last season. I wish she would go home. But being the only “country” contestant (and in her case, I use that term very loosely) on a show with a lot of country viewers, I’m afraid we’re going to be stuck with her until the end. I love country music. Skylar’s boots and accent may be country, but her singing is not.

On two of the seeming frontrunners who can do little wrong by way of the judges:

Like Nutmeg, I don’t get the adulation thrown Jessica’s way. She’s very talented but emotionally way underdeveloped — the sing-bot.

Philip. He does have an “it”/charisma factor. No doubt. He also has an advantage in that the judges don’t critique his singing with regard to pitch because pitch has so little to do with his singing. It’s all dynamics. Ok, he showed maybe a two note wider range than he has before, but that makes it a 6 or 8-note range now. At some point, is such a limited range going to matter?

I have to agree with those saying that Deandre will be around for a while. It won’t be because R&B sells, LOL that is a joke that garbage doesn’t sell anymore (pretty much like other music but worse). He will stick around because look at the posts here. Who else has the fans? The rabid fans defend hair dude or skunk boy. The fans of the girls or Phillip are not rabid. Rabid fans vote like they have no life, which might actually be true when it comes to the the Vienna Boys Choir guy.

For those eager to see a new movie this weekend:

Madonna-directed “W.E.” isn’t the disaster it easily could have been. A modern mirror-piece reflecting the Windsor’s “love story of the century” is confusing and unnecessary – I would rather just watch Wicked Wally have her way with the infatuated Edward VIII , preferable in chronological order.

Except Wally wasn’t really wicked, and she didn’t get her king by employing “Chinese tricks”, and Madonna succeeds in getting this message across. Beautifully filmed. Gorgeous clothes.

Dick Lark, I don’t get the Skylar love either and, with her in the bottom 3 this week, I guess we’re not alone. She just seems to yell her songs now. It’s annoying.

In a comparison between Hollie and Jessica, I can see why Hollie doesn’t get as much attention. She has a lovely voice but I have to agree with Jimmy, she’s kind of emotionless and expressionless. Jessica is pretty good at acting like she’s emotional. Not sure that she really is.

Rx…..we have to accept the fact that looking good is part of what people respond to. It’s difficult to engage with someone who you find physically unappealing which, to me, is one of the reason we get the winners that we get.

But like I said, it no longer matters who wins. Pia(who finished 9th?) has a contract. If a person is talented and the tweens(or whatever)cause his/her elimination by voting madly for the cute guy, that person will still succeed…and maybe better than the cute guy.

“preferably”!!

A propos mirrors, Julia Roberts’s “Mirror Mirror” is a vanity project that fails miserably. Weaned on the Grimm stories since early childhood, I love fairy tales and the current saga mania on TV and in the movies. Had high hopes for “Mirror Mirror”, and with the right actress for the Queen’s part, it might have worked. Our own Julia is a fine comedienne and a more than decent dramatic actress, but she has no talent for farce. Armie Hammer as the prince and Nathan Lane as some kind of consiglieri almost make the movie work: they are believable and funny.

No suprises last night for me..The highlight came When Niki that chick with the blond wig and dress that looked like paint exploded on to it and it was painted and blown to rags. When Niki told JL to scoot over a little. Jay Lo gave her that look like BeechitcH..there Aint Enough room on this show for both of us..(She joked but clearly she was serious).
Notice the judges did not give Niki a standing ovation. I tried hard trying to figure out what the Hell I was watching and hearing?

“Wrath of the Titans” is slightly better than “Clash of the Titans”, so if you are a 13-year old boy (physically and/or mentally) this movie is for you! Lots of explosions and special effects, nobody dying tragically, people beaten within an inch of their lives jump back effortlessly in the next scene, and only one icky kiss at the very end… just like a cartoon!

Liam Neeson works hard for his money; revenge actioneers every January, and then Zeus every other year. Sam Worthington is his usual stalwart self, Perseus, son of Zeus, and Ralph Fiennes the wishy-washy Hades who can’t make up his mind if he wants earth destroyed or not. Everybody has
daddy issues.

Rosamund Pike is a lovely Andromeda, warrior Queen, and Bill Nighy charming as inventor Hephaestus.

Projecting the final two.

Jessica. Excellent voice but she may have trouble connecting with the younger voters. Her persona just seems older than her age. If the judges continue to give her such high praise it could backfire. They gush over her like what happened with Jordin Sparks but Jessica faces overall better competitionn than Jordin.

Colton. He wasn’t one of my early favorites, but he seems to be gaining steam. His performance on Wednesday was waaaaay off key in my opinion. I loved the song but not his voice. That being said, he has 4 things going for him: (1) he’s a guy, (2) he has an “edgy” look, (3) the tweens probably consider him cute, and (4) he can play an instrument. That combination worked for Off Key Lee so lightning may strike again.

I’m not saying these are the two best overall singers, but rather they are the two who could appeal to the largest block of voters.

The save can be used till the Top 5, I believe. If I’m right, there are only 3 more weeks they can use it.

Odds of being saved:

Colton: 75% – 100%

DeAndre: 75% – 100%

Elise: 50% – 75%

Hollie: 75% – 100%

Jessica: 100%

Joshua: 50% – 75%

Phillip: 100%

Skylar: <50%

Pretty good estimates. Based on the judge’s over-the-top comments, though, I’d say Joshua would be 100%.

They think his voice is GREAT, ah-heh!
But he sounds too much like a PREACH-uh, ah-heh!
And that can eVENtually get TIRing, ah-heh!
I thought he was GOOD at FIRST, ah-heh!
But he’s worn OUT his welcome with ME, ah-heh!
Too MUCH like James Brown in “BLUES Brothers”, ah-heh!

Nicki is part of the problem with music today. Pop hop is trash!

@Pitchy. Yeah, I said something to that effect with PP. Whenever he can’t hit a note (usually in modulation), he growls it out. Look at the replays. It’s funny how PP’s growls and screams are accepted, but Joshua’s gospels nuances are criticized. I haven’t heard many bloggers (if any) support PPs singing ability. His supporters make excuses by saying they’re entertained by him. Entertained by what?! LOL! Does he dance? Slither across the stage? Help me to understand the entertainment with PP.

If you listen closely, Jessica will “lose” herself in a song with emotion, and many of her rifs are gospel rooted. Lately she’s been doing a Whitney cross-over to help her out with the mainstream. smh She should be her natural r&b/gospel self. If PP is allowed to be himself, everyone else shouldn’t be criticized for doing the same.
