Insecure, intermittently humorous, intermittently annoying Heejun Han is out.

He sealed his fate with a series of really boring performances, followed by a silly Billy Joel goof that Steven Tyler hated. He did up his game a few notches last night but it was clearly too late. His fate was sealed. He knew he had no way of winning this. His voice, as Jimmy Iovine noted, simply wasn’t good enough and his overall stage presence was lacking.

Comedy? Well, we know he’s got a future in Funny or Die videos. We’ll see if he can do anything beyond fading into the woodwork.

Jimmy Iovine’s thoughts:

- Elise: “She took charge of that stage. She led the band. Her hair, her clothes, her vocal ability, it all moved in unison… She has an opportunity with the 80s next week to have two great weeks in a row. If she can do that, she can be in the top of the class. She was a dark horse but now she’s coming on strong.”

- Phillip: “[Steve Nicks] believes in this guy. She thinks he can go all the way. If his original material is 80 percent as good as he is, he is the next American Idol.”

- Hollie: “What she lacks is experience. What she’s doing is technically right and emotionally behind the pack. Jessica takes it more soulfully. Hollie has more an intellectual approach. You don’t win on technique. You win it on soul.”

- Colton: “Colton was good but not good enough… I believe he lost that fight. He didn’t get knocked out but he’s behind on points.”

- Joshua: “This is a tough one for me. He has so much talent. He delivered 85% of the song but when he got emotional. he lost it. His voice closed. On the other hand, when he was in the Michael Jackson medley. He was relaxed. He killed that.”

- Heejun: “It’s great to see Heejun come back. I don’t think it was enough. My problem, I don’t think he sings as well as the other eight contestants on this show.”

- Skylar: “She picked a character song than a song with real melody. She’s going to have to go to songs with more song in them melodically… During the medley, she rose above the pack.”

- DeAndre: “I’m not going crazy for him. I’m not disliking him. For him to win, I think he’s missing something. He needs more experience. His falsetto is beautiful but it could be polarizing.”

- Jessica: “She’s like she’s been doing this for 10 years… She got lost in that song but kept her composure. I’m fully on board with this… What we need is a little girl power [to vote.]”

- The Ford music video: fun to see everyone in 1980s metal gear.

- Nicki Minaj “Starships” : Great, catchy song. Ridiculous outfit as always.

- Scotty McCreery “Water Tower Town” : A year on the road and he is much more self assured. The song is decent. You liked him last year, you’ll still like him now.

- The mansion: architecturally dull but spacious, of course.

Cover it live polls

- Grade Nicki: A-5%, B-26% C-26% F-42%

- Grade Scotty A-16% B-42% C-16% F-26%

Will they save Heejun: 93% No (and correct)

Hollie in bottom three: Expected 44% Travesty 56%

Okay, this is pissing me off! The second part of my comment won’t go through (again with the “duplicate” message BS).

RODNEY, you’ve got to get the programmers to fix this crap!

In Idol news, Clay Aiken has admitted to a little plastic surgery:

“I had operative surgery on my jaw for a TMJ thing and I had them suck the fat out of my chin while they were in there,” Aiken revealed on live TV, without specifying exactly when the procedure took place. “I was like, ‘You know what, while I’m already down, go ahead and take the vacuum in there and suck the fat out of my chin.”

Next week: Songs of the 80’s. I’m hoping this does not mean more Whitney Houston.

I’m curious about this quote from Jimmy: Phillip: “[Steve Nicks] believes in this guy. She thinks he can go all the way. If his original material is 80 percent as good as he is, he is the next American Idol.”

What does he mean by that? What does “original material” have to do with American Idol? Could he be hinting at something?

Not surprised Hee-jun was voted off. The feedback from the professionals regarding some of the contestants were interesting. Eric Benet gave support to Deandre. The guy obviously has some talent, albeit not what some like, I happen to think Deandre has something that needs to be further developed. I think Jimmy said as much also. Maybe all of the cat screeching jokes are not warranted.

Breezy, I think Deandre could be good but, like you said, he needs training. He has potential but it is not fair to the contestants who are ready to go now that someone who isn’t ready yet gets votes. And the second half of his performance Wed. night was off-key. I’ve listened to it 3 times now. He needs a significant amount of vocal work.

Jen: Guess you and I are the only ones who will miss HeeJun a little bit! I guess Hollie will go next week (and really piss me off!). Looks like we’re stuck with MakesmeSICK forever! Listening again to that dreck in the recap, it is totally out of my comprehension to understand how anyone can call that “singing”, much less like it. Sure we all have our own tastes, and someone loves country, another hates it (ME), some like Rod Stewart, some prefer Pavoratti, but who the hell could actually enjoy that squealing crap? I don’t get it at all.

Happy Friday Morning……..

Soooooooo glad that Heejun is GONE!!!!!!!! There was something about him that jarred my last nerve. Now, if DeAndre will follow next week and leave the building, I will be happy. The judges are waiting to use the “save” for someone really worthy of it. If Hollie had been the one last night, I think they would have saved her. They only have three more weeks (before the top 5) to use it or they lose it.

Enjoyed Scotty’s performance and it was good to see him back on the idol stage. He just keeps getting better.

The first guest performer (if you can call it a performance) was the pits. I thought for sure that her puppies were going to jump out of their hiding place and make their presence known.

Songs of the 80’s should be interesting, so I hope the remaining 8 will put alot of thought into their choices and choose wisely. Anxious to see what DeA will come up with. I think he can mess up any song he chooses, but, he may surprise us all next week.

I hate to disappoint many of you but Deandre will make it to the top 5. I don’t understand everyone on the Phillip bandwagon, this is not America Got Talent. This will come down to who is voting and what genre of music those people like. For example those who like Jessica/Hollie would not listen to Skylar/Elise; same with the Phillip/Colton/Deandre/Joshua dynamic.

Next week will be the first surprise of a person being voted off that many people would think is a slam dunk to make the top 5; the question is will the judges use their save this early. I do not think so unless it is Jessica who I believe they want to win it all. That young lady with the right managment, material, and vision has the making to be a star.

If next week is 80’s week, then Deandre needs to go for a Debarge song. People may not like him but the AI executives know that this kid can sell R&B records and that is the end game, who can make money. No he may not be a big crossover artist but hey neither is Maxwell and he has had a great career and sold millions of albums. This kid is only 17 and right now the more exposure he gets the happier the AI exec are, trust me, they have plans for this kid.

Morning!

The blog is missing last night’s comments. I wonder if this had anything to do with my not being able to post last night? I made a comment, then when I “refreshed” it would just hang there and not complete the refresh process. I had to give up. And, then this morning, the blog is very confusing. There is a gap.

Sam-A, I am going to miss Heejun. I know he did not have enough to win and had gone just about as far as he could, but I will miss his personality. I thought he was great in defeat and knew it was coming. I thought his version of “A Song For You” was decent, though not anywhere nearly as good as Elliott’s.

@Stop hating….sorry but the “end game” for this show is making money for the show not the singers. Idol doesn’t care who wins. The contestants shouldn’t care either because, for the past few years, the ones who are talented get their shot at a recording contract no matter how they finish on Idol.

The purpose of this show is to entertain it’s audience and they do that by letting us believe that we’re actually picking the next big star. Bull Hockey!

Toss up question – who is the judge’s “save” reserved for?

I believe the only two people they will use it on will be Phillip or Jessica. Joshua may be a distant choice because they seem to love this guy. He could f@rt in the microphone and they would give a standing O.

Last season the save was used way to early and then when some of the better ones were voted off and the judges weren’t able to save them. I think this year they are more cautious.

Only a matter of time for Heejun. Skyler, Hollie, and Colton are soon to follow. Then Joshua and so on. Deandre will be around a lot longer than you guys think. His fans are much bigger than this blog.

Speaking of Deandre and 80s night, he should blow this one out of the park. Michael Jackson ruled the 80s (which Deandre can do) along with Prince. I would look forward to Deandre performing something from Debarge, and some Megadeth from Phil.

I think the show is more concerned with who makes the top 10, than who wins. There’s a commitment for the top 10 to perform a tour for a certain amount of time. The stronger the 10, the better the concert……….after Idol is over. It’s like having 9 winners and one headliner.

Heejun going isn’t that big of a surprise. I thought his performance this week was good enough to hang around for a while. But he sealed his fate last week when he thumbed his nose at the competetion.

Now, the biggest surprise is that Deandre wasn’t in the bottom 3. Uhoh… people you have a civic duty to keep teen girls away from all media devices they can vote with 2hrs after the show.

Oh I loved Jimmy’s comments this week. Some of the best brutal honesty I’ve ever seen on the show. He called Deandre exactly right. And he called Jessica exactly right. I especially loved how he hinted to teen girl vote controlling the show and basicly telling them to start supporting the girls a little bit. Awesome moment.

The judges HAVE to use the save no matter what. They need to save someone to fill in the gap left when Jermaine was asked to leave…so, even if they approve of the next 3 departees, one of them will have to be saved. We need to cross our fingers that it isn’t Deandre

Nana: Harm was on a couple days ago. She’s had a rough few months. Young woman who was her daugher’s friend since infantcy died of cancer; she had to take her daughters dogs (several) in when a neighbor complained about barking, so she’s now the proud mom of 6 dogs, which is keeping her pretty busy. That’s a brief review. Maybe you can go back this week’s postings and find it.

“What does he mean by that? What does “original material” have to do with American Idol? Could he be hinting at something?”

D- the way I understood it was that if PP’s original material is decent, then he’s going to be very famous and very successful. I can’t remember his exact quote, but I didn’t get the feeling that he meant he was going to win Idol because of his original stuff. Although Idol has allowed contestants to do their own music before.
