‘American Idol’ top 9 live blogging
If you want to live blog (or simply use the comments below), you have two options. Tonight the nine singers will do songs from their idols. To fill extra time since they have stretched what should be a 90 minute show to two hours is some sort of medley of Madonna songs. Or something like that. Nigel has tweeted that Jessica will do Beyonce (not Mariah!) while Hollie will take on Carrie Underwood and Skylar, Miranda Lambert.

A take on last week or so in downloads from previous Idols, Idol Chatter:
This week, the five top-selling tracks from Idols all belong to women — including Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger at 150,000, Carrie Underwood’s Good Girl at 69,000 and Haley Reinhart’s Free, which debuts with 35,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Soundscan. On top of that, Kelly Clarkson reaches another 2-million milestone with her Don’t You Wanna Stay duet with Jason Aldean.
Scotty McCreery is the Idol guy with the top-selling track, having moved 11,000 copies of The Trouble With Girls last week. Look for new single Water Tower Town to get a big boost next week, since Scotty will perform the song on Idol this Thursday

I won’t be on Live Blog tonight because it locks-up my computer sometimes. I will be on the slow blog from time-to-time, but have a group of about 10 to 12 people coming over soon to watch the show.
Last year, we sometimes had close to 20 people here, so down from last year – kinda reflects the ratings. Better go hide my best stock from the fridge before it’s all gone tonight. If Skylar was here, she could bring us some Venison Steak.

First off, I just wanted to say I’m glad to be back! Missed last week…but I’m here now!
For those who haven’t seen it, Colton sung Everything by Lifehouse when he was touring churches over the last year. It was absolutely beautiful. Go watch that version. The version he sang tonight was emotional, and I couldn’t buy the studio recording fast enough, but he didn’t play the piano. He makes me weep when he plays.
Skylar was her usual spunky self and can really entertain, but her songs are slowly beginning to sound the same to me. She’ll be super safe though.

Gunpowder & Lead, fairly new song – her mic is “splashing” as we call it, distorting her voice slightly.
Sound Man didn’t do well in that set-up. Still was upbeat and she moved around with energy on the song. give her a 6 1/2.

Wow, it’s God night on Idol tonight. Not complaining personally, but I just haven’t seen so many religious songs in one night (granted there’s only been two, but still…)
Hollie has a powerful instrument, and she looks stunning tonight, but she is turning into glorified vanilla for me. I know she is trying her darndest to connect with hus, but I just never truly feel it from her.
Also, the snow?? The waving arms?? Way to distract from the message.

Hollie’s song choice is not the best for me, probably because I’ve heard that song way too many times back when it was a hit. She is a great singer, but that was not great for me. Give her a 6, and she did miss some notes. Not a stellar choice for her.

Okay, first off I understand how technically impressive the falsetto tool is. And the first verse of Deandre’s song sounded REALLY good. But when the whole entire song is up in the stratosphere, it loses it’s luster. It’s the exact same thing as when Phillip only sings the same 4-5 notes, Deandre is simply in a different range of his voice.

Given how much liberty the performers were given in choosing a song this week, the performances so far have been really poor. You would think that long before the semi-finals, each of them would have had four or five songs performance ready for this opportunity. Jen Hirsch and Eben Frankowitz must be scratching their heads at home wondering how these people are on stage right now instead of them.

J. Lo wants everybody to vote for him. The Judges are also trying to declare him the winner along with everyone else. He gets a 4 as far as I see it.

I think tonight’s theme is really more about emotional connection to the material rather than vocal impressiveness. Yes, it is important to convey the message through the notes, however sometimes it’s okay to forgive vocal mediocrity if the emotion is there in its stead. For me it is. However I will say that compared to previous weeks it is a lesser impressive show.

Hi ho peeps! I’m watching a recorded version and am at Deandre right now. I agree with Deirdre…will NOT be voting for this kid. Yes he is good at the vibrato but it’s not relevant to today’s sound and he DOES sound out-dated. As for Colton…cannot believe some of the negative comments. I think this kid ROCKS! I am not a church girl by any means but this is a Christian Rock kid who looks good, sounds good and is good at heart. WHY would anyone slam him? He WAS the standout in his trio with Elise and Phil and his solo performance was spectacular as usual. I just never know what to expect from Colton. Every one of his performances have been unique and standout…NEVER the same.

Like I said..I’m no church girl but WHAT is wrong with Tim Tebow’s and Colton Dixon’s going after the Christian vote? Is there something WRONG with that? Since when is it a BAD thing for a person to pronounce their belief in God and living life by biblical standards? I don’t but CERTAINLY do not condemn another who does. Colton: no voice. boring. nothing new. death warmed over. Not seein or hearin anything beautiful except for his personal feelings, which doesn’t translate to a very listenable or satisfying experience to listen to him.
Jessica: nice voice, power, but when she belts it out, which she does quite often, she screams. She loses the beauty that she does in her vibrato and quieter, softer moments and, again, not pleasing to listen to; want to turn down the volume and change the station.
Phillip: original as hell. Fun to watch. Passion galore. Unique voice.

Part of the reason Elise killed is because she has experience in a rock band and performed the song before, so it wasn’t like something she dreamed up just for the show. And the song, hell, Whole Lotta Love is one of the most exciting songs of the century. She’s ahead of the pack because of her performance now.

Elise chose a song tonight which is popular. But that was NOT the best cover version I’ve ever heard. I’m sure some of you bar-goers can agree. Many a rock band has covered this and Elise was just so-so to me. I actually found it kind of karoak-ish. So while Elise is riding the gravy train, she will soon find herself on the chuck-wagon again next week.

I can’t believe the judges are standing for Deandre and Joshua, but not Hollie! She gave me goose bumps all over and I finally had to fast forward through Deandre and Joshua! they are the worst singers of the competition, yet they keep hanging on while the fantastic female singers are being knocked off! If this continues, I will no longer watch this show…it is becoming a JOKE!! Where’s Simon Cowell when you need him?? He would trash those guys! Come back Simon!!

America got it right, for the most part. I expected Hee-Jun and Skylar to be in the bottom three, but I thought DeAndre would be there instead of Hollie. I’m OK that Hee-Jun got the boot and DeAndre was spared. I thought Jimmie Iovine’s comments were right on target.

I disagree with the results. The bottom three should have been Heejun, Joshua, and Deandre. Deandre should have gone home because he SUCKS! Hollie is amazing and the judges need to keep their mouths shut! They have been tearing down the really good singers saying it’s constructive critisism, but the awful ones I just named keep getting built up out of pity. It is a total joke! They need to re-vamp the way the voting works because if andyone else goes before Deandre and Joshua I will never watch the show again!!!

Why does everyone keep picking on Skylar? Her version of “Where do Broken Hearts Go?” was flawless. It had the perfect bit of southern twang and range. She just needs to include a bit more melody and she will destroy most the other contestants.

i must be tone deaf with all the praise the judges keep giving JOSHUA because i can hardly understand a word he sings.i think the judges have made him their pick and all the other contestants need to work their butts off in order to have an honest chance of winning.i think the judges are holding their save for JOSHUA.
also i and many others more think the judges did A POOR choice of contestants this year. OK i am finished with this as well as american idol.
