Two shows that got tons of buzz last year – HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones” and AMC’s “The Killing” – return Sunday night.
“Game of Thrones” is a sexy, violent adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series. It built a following last year throughout season one and was rewarded with a cover story of Entertainment Weekly last week.
Meanwhile, AMC last year also developed a massive fan base for “The Killing,” then peeved a bulk of them when they didn’t resolve who was the murderer during the finale. Will they come back? We’ll find out soon.
And if such scripted series aren’t your taste, the first of two “Jersey Shore” spinoffs starts on Thursday with Pauly D – just as the show itself has started to lose serious steam.

My DVR workout comes on Wednesday and Sunday. I’ve watched Psych since the start and Game of Thrones…well, if it keeps following the books the way season one did, then this season will not disappoint.

Game of Thrones is a great show. It highly entertained me last year. Spartacus and Dexter are some of the greats. True Blood is good, but more in a guilty pleasure type of way.
I also really really enjoy House of Lies. Well done show right there. And this isn’t pay TV, but I love New Girl off of Fox. It’s got a Scrubs kind of fell, not quite as good as Scrubs, but still very good none the less.
I started watching Luck this year, wound up just deleting my remaining episodes off the DVR when I saw they were canceling the series. Honestly the right move. Luck was completely boring despite all the great actors. I also saw that they had the same producer/writer/whatever that did Deadwood so it started to make sense that it was such a boring show.
That’s what I’m watching. Or not watching.

I enjoyed “The Killing” for the most part. Once you get used to the slow-pace of the show, it’s quite good. However, there’s still no better show on cable or network then the masterpiece that is Fringe. I just hope they give it a well deserved 5th Season next year. Seriously, regardless of what kind of taste in TV shows you have, get a hold of Seasons 1,2 and 3 of Fringe and I guarantee it will surpass all your expectations. It’s simply genius and the biggest misconception about it is that it’s just a sci-fi show or an X-files knock off. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Fringe will teach you things that school never managed to, it’ll make you cry like a baby and a fit of laughter is guaranteed every episode. YOU’LL NEVER LOOK BACK ONCE YOU’VE EXPERIENCED FRINGE!

RX, “Luck” was cancelled because three horses died during production – and maybe HBO was aware of the exposé the New York Times was workinng on (it was published yesterday; a shocking, 3 page piece on the corruption of the sport. Quote from the article: “On an average, 24 horses die each week at racetracks across America.”)

It’s clearly too late for this season, but I WISH “Merlin” would get more attention. Just one lousy little line? I guess that’s better than a lot of TV series, but ……. every single member of my family can watch “Merlin” AND we enjoy it. It doesn’t have overt sex or violence, but in my mind, it is every bit as good as, if not better (since it’s easier to follow) than “Game of Thrones,” but that show, because blood and other bodily fluids squirt so freely, gets all the attention. And, ironically, “Merlin” even has MORE VIEWERS than the last season of “Game of Thrones”!

Mercedes I know about the horses… but crappy ratings (and for good reason) had a pretty big hand in canceling the sieres too. From what I understand the horse deaths were just routine things. It wasn’t like HBO was purposfuly putting these horses life on the line to film a show. So the sport kills a lot of horses… ok. I’m not shocked about that. I don’t watch horse racing or paticular like/dislike it. But bottom line is Luck was a snooze fest.

RxDawg – Agreed about Spartacus. I saw Blood & Sand on NetFlix. Great show. Sadly, Netflix and Starz had an ugly falling out and all Starz shows are gone. I don’t have Starz, so I don’t know if I’ll get to watch Vengeance or not. I’m getting really excited for this season of Game of Thrones.
