During the 1 p.m. hour today, former Snellville resident and “Idol” runner-up Diana DeGarmo will debut a song today on the CBS soap “The Young & the Restless.”

Playing her foul-singing Jersey mob boss’s daughter Angelina, she has mostly been torturing standards up to this point. But now she gets to sing an original, “Good Goodbye.” Her boyfriend Ace Young, from season 5, co-wrote the song with her. It’s supposed to be a turning point to her character. Her character on the most part has been pushy and full of herself.

DeGarmo has been on the show since Halloween, but word in soap circles is she will be leaving the show as early as next week.

We spoke to her and Ace last month before rumors of her character’s departure began to spread.

Has singing poorly on purpose hurt her real singing voice? “No! Thank goodness. I’m keeping up good singing habits as much as I can because outside the show, I’m still singing. Of course, Angelina is getting better. Maybe she’ll even be as good as Diana DeGarmo one day. You have to dream big!”

Her favorite outfit as Angelina: “I think the craziest was this velveteen python dress. I thought it was a shirt. There were no pants with it. It was this one-shoulder contraption. They wanted to see how far the wardrobe department could go.”

Watching “Jersey Shore”? “Angelina nor I need to watch ‘Jersey Shore’ for pointers. But we are fans. Definitely Snooki is someone we look up to. I do think Snooki’s pretty great. She doesn’t let anyone bring her down. I love that. And I have my Jersey friends when I need advice.”

How do actual Jersey folks think of her Angelina accent? “It depends upon who you’re talking to. For the most part, friends of mine from Jersey think Angelina’s accent is pretty on point.”

Will Kevin ever fall in love with Angelina? “I know she sure hopes so. She did try to get him to marry her.”

The new song is a country ballad. Ace: “Diana came up with a brilliant idea for the actual song. We knocked it out very fast. We got a couple of friends to produce it to make sure it sounded how Angelina would have wanted to sound.”

You can hear it on YouTube:

Diana: “This is as close to a Diana DeGarmo song as Angelina is going to get.”

Their group All Access. Ace: “We write for each other and with each other. We always have fun. We have since put together a fun group and done nine songs together. It’s just fun. We let Diana sing her country songs with a live band. Our other artists can do their style, more like new Motown. We are trying to make it about the music.”

Ace talks about getting on “Idol” and its impact on him: “Before ‘Idol,’ I was writing for Brian McKnight and New Edition and five other acts. The label told me to try ‘American Idol.’ I did. It was the best high I’ve had in my life. Now I can score movies. I can do music for anybody. I got to co-write Daughtry’s first hit and it was nominated for a Grammy. I got a No. 1 song overseas as well. And through it, I met Diana. I have an outlet where I can tell people who I am, what I stand for in music.”

His thoughts on “Hair”: “It was a very emotionally freeing experience. I feel like music right now is really force fed. You never get to feel the artists, to shake their hands.

Diana’s thoughts on Katharine McPhee and “Smash.” “We’re so proud of it. It’s a great show. It’s great what Katharine McPhee is doing for the ‘Idol’ brand. She’s a talented girl. It’s great for Broadway to be getting more of a pop culture light.”

- In other “Idol” news, Nicki Minaj and Scotty McCreery will perform next week and Kelly Clarkson will tape a performance for a future results show. (No hard feelings for Kelly popping up on “The Voice”!)

And Nigel tweeted: “next week they’re singing their #IDOL’s songs. Beyonce, Mariah, Miranda, Lifehouse, Daughtry, Led Zeppelin. Now that should be interesting?” Hmmm… wonder who will sing Miranda Lambert (Skylar)? And Led Zeppelin (probably Colton, though he has done Daughtry before, so it could be Phillip). And Jessica is all over Mariah. Who would sing, gulp, Lifehouse? Heejun? As for Beyonce, Elise??? Or Joshua?

Boys, I stand by my remark that Haley looked trashy last night. Even Deirdre, who actually likes this gal, agreed she looked cheap. I didn’t like her during her season, but don’t remember her looking nearly as cheap as she did last night. The hair, the makeup, the getup – not class at all. Don’t think you guys would want your teen daughters to go out looking like that would you?

As for girls, I liked Kelly, Kimberly (#3 3rd season), Diana & LaToya London, Carly, Brooke, Crystal, Pia, Lauren Alaina, Erica, Hollie – and sure I’ve left out a bunch.

Didn’t say cheap…I thought she looked trashy. Mostly the hairdo was, for me, over the top. I love her song and liked her performance last night. Didn’t mind the outfit at all.

I do worry about the tendency today for young girls to look sexy. It is a trend that is troubling.

And good for Diana. I’m glad to hear that she’s doing well.

The rumor of Diana leaving came from Soaps in Depth and was reported on Twitter. The assumption isn’t that she’s gone for good but that Angie is going off the canvas temporarily and will return as more of a heroine than an antagonist.

I agree with Sam & hew queeness. Haley did look trashy.

But, then again, it was either inspired by Tommy Hillfiger or Casey singing Confederate Railroad’s “I like my women on the trashy side?” He was in the audience, after all.

And certainly Haley is old enough to look however she wants to look. By young girls I meant high school and younger

The theme next week: Songs from each Idol’s Idol should be interesting and will definitely put each of these singers on the spot. You would think they would all shine but, we/ve seen it before, picking a song from someone you love to listen to doesn’t necessarily mean you can sing that song.

Good news about Kelly taping a performance for Idol. I never thought her appearance on The Voice was any kind of a “thumb you nose at Idol” moment. Just Kelly helping out a friend.

The theme is songs from their idol’s, but like last week they will also be receiving fashion tips. This time it is coming from this blog! So next week Jennifer Lopez will be wearing a burqa in order to not appear trashy. Hollie will be sporting a burqa. Jessica, burqa, Elise, you guessed it… burqa.

Should be a great week, now we can judge them based on their singing voice only. The audience will be required to wear them as well, or maybe just Hijabs.

Rodney, for me it only affects my “work” computer running Windows XP. I don’t know that it is the ads at the bottom, but it started around the same time. My specific issue is that my view will constantly jump to the top of the page. So I have to hold the scroll bar in position to read comments, and sometimes it will pop up when I’m going to click therefore I hit the wrong item. It will also hop while I am commenting, so I need to cut and paste from Word even more, just to avoid the confusion of the view of the page jumping.

Wow, lots of posts to catch up on… trying to skim them but taking a while! Quick thoughts: Not thrilled that another girl is gone, but have resigned myself to the fact that they’ll all be weeded out one by one. Another year of the same old garbage.

And read someone’s theory that women viewers always have boys as faves? Wow, I am way out of the norm. Other than Adam, and Mike of course, my faves have always been girls. In order: LaToya London, then Diana… Carrie… Kat… Lakisha/Melinda (but then Blake, remember “You Give Love A Bad Name?)… Carly… Crystal… Pia/Haley.

Loved Jimmy’s “frolic” comment about Deandrea. You don’t frolic on that song. Clueless curly squealy thing.

Will finish reading, then post more….

Re: technical problems… I’ve noticed that the blog has become VERY annoyingly slow to load lately. Especially upon first accessing it. Once it’s open, it’s better, but heaven forbid I close my browser or I have to wait and wait to reopen it. (And it seems limited to the blog and some other AJC pages. Not outside sites, so it’s not my computer.)

And also, the ads that randomly start playing audio are quite annoying.

Sorry… you did ask.

Out of the remaining 9 contestant… on which would the judges use their precious (but highly overrated) “save”?

My guesses

Definite:

Phil
Colton
Joshua
Hollie
Jessica

Possible:
Skylar
Elise
Deandre’ (for reasons known only to the judges and the good Lord above)

Absolutley not:
HeeJun

Mercedes: sorry, but I couldn’t stand either one of them. Liked Siobhan at first, but she seemed, to me, to get worse and worse each week. Never in a million years liked JHud – her voice or her snappy attitude. To this day, I flip the channel when her commercials that she sings in come up. Just something totally irritating about her voice (of course would have voted for her over the F bomb if it’d come to that!).

Deirdre

I don’t think they’d save Deandre unless the camera is completely missing something that can only be seen live. There’s no point! I don’t think they would save Elise either.

I think they HAVE to use the save at some point just to make up for the loss of Jermaine but I would hope they’d hold it until one of Rickster’s definite group goes or until the last week they can use it.

JTesla

If nothing else they will use it at the last possible week (is that the top 6?). I would drop Elise and Deandre, but for Elise it depends on if she gets the glowing reviews that she got this week. For Deandre… well he was their wild card pick.

I wonder if they’d use the save on Lana Del Rey.

JT: HAHAHA! Just realized who your beloved reminded me of last night: Tonya Harding! If you’re too young to remember, google her. And, remember I didn’t ever say she WAS trashy, just that she represented herself in that manner last night. And Niki M definitely has a trashy look. None of the girl contestants has crossed into that area this year. JLo – hmmmmm, she did just about spill totally out of that dress she wore last week. But it was just overly bare, not trashy.

This has nothing to do with Idol news, but wanted to share:

Back from doing errands, but just have to tell ya’ll what I saw at Wal-Mart. Two overgrown women duking it out in the Easter candy Isle! Apparently, there were only two bags left of some sort of candy, and one lady wanted BOTH bags and when she wouldn’t share, the other lady hust hauled off and socked her. Should have seen me getting out of the way. Needless to say, both got a police escort. I was dumbfounded that two so called women would do something like that in public. Oh well, to each their own. Thought some of you may get a laugh out of this story cause it was quiet comical. I bet they each weigh over 250/275 pounds. Big ladies to be throwing punches. Now, you see why I was getting out of their way. One hit to my 115, would have landed me on my backside.

Sam-A, I don’t need to Google her. Tonya Harding is from my area (relatively speaking) trust me I know who she is. I even was at an open skate where she was practicing once (I was keeping in shape for Hockey and this was before she really hit the big time). I did not like her at all, most figure skaters were a little snobbish, she took snobbish to a new level.

However, no comparison. Trust me, white trash Tonya has nothing on Haley. Haley at least looks good when she is made up, the hair may have been a little over the top, but her dress and hair was still not trashy even in the throwback sense which is what I think she was going for. I think you are letting your bias against her color your judgment.

Deirdre: Lana-Del-What-the-Hell. It’s saying something when even I can’t defend it. Look I’m defending Haley who wore a dress that was just “meh” for me, but I just don’t know what that was either.

Oh and Sam-A “I didn’t ever say she WAS trashy, just that she represented herself in that manner last night”

That is where the Rush Limbaugh comparison came in, you made disparaging remarks that were on par with recent comments that he made.

Jenny

Rickster, do you really think they’d save Joshua? He’s OK, but not great, and he seems to be developing an attitude. Just a feeling based on watching his expressions… they range from “I’m tolerating this” to giving the stink eye.

(and I may be noticing this more because I read an article where he said he wasn’t all that excited for the summer tour since “the only one he likes is Hollie and he doesn’t want to be on a bus with all of them”. ??? OK, surely he’s kidding…)

Attitudes REALLY, really bug me. And on that subject, I also don’t like what I’ve been reading here about Elise. I would surely hope they’re all grateful for what they’ve been given… if it’s such a huge pain to be here, and you hate the process so much…. there are trillions of others who would love to have your spot!!

JTesla

March 23rd, 2012

Jenny: I see your point on Joshua, I wouldn’t save him because if he gets voted out one week, he’ll just get voted out the next. Also, his brand of music doesn’t require him to place any higher than he is right now. However, remember who the clowns are that have control over the save. They aren’t as with it as you and I.

You know what Haley’s hair reminded me of…that movie with Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford…Working Girl. That blowsey New Jersey 80’s hair, big and frizzy. Then Melanie get some class by cutting and smoothing it. Having hair that frizzes if it just looks like it’s going to rain, I don’t get voluntarily wearing it like that.

Jt, if you asked me to describe that girl, Lana, I couldn’t do it but Haley, on the other hand…which just might be what she was going for.

Sam-A:

You’re right about the grand and great grands, however, I’m only bigger that the great grands.

As far as the save goes, I think they will use it only if one of these are in danger of going home:

Jessica; Colton; Hollie: Phillip: and maybe Skylar. That’s just my guess, but am probably way off base.

Sam-A

JT: I’m stating my opinion of how that gal looked. If I were going to appear on TV in a big show, I’d want to look my best – she, in my opinion, as well as others’, didn’t do that. The big nutcase blimpo stated incorrect facts regarding a young lady. Wasn’t speaking of how she looked – but claimed to know her moral standings, which are certainly not any of his biz!

I give up with you – last word on it/her from me.
