‘American Idol’ recap, season 11, semifinal top 13 men | Radio & TV Talk

[...] is the holding spot for tonight’s top 13 performance show for the guys. There is also a live blogging entry. I’ll see if there’s enough traffic to make that worthwhile this year. It may not be. [...]

Yay! I know most will be live blogging and I may give it a try again but last year I found it way too distracting. I like to focus on the singers and much as I don’t like a show when they make it about the judges, the live blogging feels like it’s all about the comments. Neither one seems to care about the singers.

Jeramy Rosado is a “likeable” guy. But nothing exceptional that I can hear in his singing; good but so are many others in choirs, praise bands, theatre, etc. Deandre will get more teen fans though.

KatJ…do you have a sweet addiction? First I’m honey…then I’m sugar. But I appreciate the attention. AS for the show…it appeared early on the guys might be better. Are they not as good or are they picking the wrong songs?
Pitchy

I feel they’re picking the wrong songs. No one has hit it out the park for the first night. Perhaps that’s on purpose.
Miss Javon

Why do they keep saying everyone has a great voice? On my TV there have been a LOT of pitchy moments and nothing “over the top” as one of the judges just said. Does it sound better, perhaps in person than on TV? Personally the only guy that was exceptional was our own dude from Atlanta. Really entertaining and on key the whole time.

Atlanta Native, that’s why I feel we’re experiencing Invasion of the Body Snatchers when it comes to the judges. They’ve lost their creative minds and their hearing for a good voice. They would never make it on The Voice.

Miss Javon bless your heart! No, I don’t have a sweet addiction (not from around here are ya? recognize sarcasm) I agree, earlier it appeared the guys were gonna be strong, but I haven’t seen any that really stand out yet….I don’t know if it song choices or they just aren’t as good as they seemed to be?
Miss Javon
February 28th, 2012
9:12 pm
Yes Pitchy…wrong songs all around. I’m seeing the positive side of theme night now. Good music is never out of style….it will showcase the real talent and I do aleady have my faves…Colton Dixon to start! Creighton Fraker is looking good as well.
Seth T
February 28th, 2012
9:12 pm
Creighton at least has identified himself as an artist, and did a fair job with the material.
But unless we see something distinuishable from some of the remaining acts, this is going to be just a popularity contest among genres and age groups.

Heejun is probably the most “popular” of the boys – more YouTube hits, etc. I think it was a decent song choice, which didn’t push him into a skit or voice range he could not handle well.
No doubt top 6/7 of the boys.
Eben fills a paticular “slot” for the show, and I think a Judge will “save” him through a wildcard if neeeded. You have to be either a great singer/performer or a have another purpose/identity/Factor which draws voters or the Judges favor. It’s not all about the skilll of the vocalist – at least not yet.

I would, first of all, like to say that everyone has their own musical taste and type of performer they enjoy and get entertainment value from – so I understand.
But I always vote – except I did not see one act that moves me enough to vote for any of them. This will be the first time I skip voting – to me, there is no pzazz to the whole night – some o.k., but not enough to stay around for another drink if I was at their show – nothing worth keeping on DVR.
This show has hung years upoon my face, dissappointment pounding like waves —–
But
, I am happy …. because the girls are on tomorrow night!!!

I have been a loyal Idol fan since the finale of Season 1, and I have to say tonight was SO lackluster and disappointing. The judges are WORTHLESS! Please do your job…and judge someone! Anyone!
Adele’s song ate Eben and spat him back out- Adam picked an overdone Idol song- Deandre sang the WHOLE SONG in falsetto (dude, variety/dynamics please…)- Jeremy was breathy the whole first half- Reed’s song sounded like a good idea on paper (big Casey Abrams fan) but I didn’t dig the performance tonight.
Colton is my personal favorite and actually gave a performance, with passion and dynamics and was different from everyone else. I loved Phillip x2’s version of In the Air Tonight, he totally made it his own, which shows artistry (it should also be noted I’m not a big Phil Collins fan.) Joshua is really good and doesn’t annoy me like Jacob Lusk did. And Jermaine picked a great song for his low voice (though I think Johnny would have had a better shot of making a strong run in this thing.)
The rest were forgettable (although Aaron gave a good stab at it.) I just hope the girls do awesome tomorrow, otherwise Idol will officially be dead.

Oh also! Creighton did a great job with True Colors, and I HATE that song! And I love Heejun, he just didn’t wow me like I wanted him to.

Sure would be nice to have at least one judge who didn’t heap praise on every singer. I heard very little actual critiqueing tonight. Could we have at least one-half of a Simon Cowell who is open and honest?

@Jubie–Of course I’m not kidding. Phil’s version was way better than Phil’s.
I really am serious. I love Phil Phillips’ version. Randy’s criticism was off the mark big time. Phil and Josh are the two best. Adam’s in there. Reed may be in there, but its hard to imagine a dork of his stature winning Idol. Def got talent, though.

Someone thinks Creighton sings well? I hit mute and take a crap break whenever he comes on.

I wish I had done the same when the long curly-haired girl, I mean, guy sang. Awful. I sometimes wonder if the judges are being photoshopped into the audience, because the comments so don’t match what actually just happened on stage.

Oh, yeah–Colton is in the mix at the top. I’m not sure Jermaine is, but I would buy an album of his. Or pirate it, perhaps.

Enough with the over produced flashing lights and dubbed in background music. The show and the talent are popular for the TALENT. Highlight that! Producers have lost sight of the audience and what draws viewers. We like good, quality SINGING. The over-production, such as with the X Factor is killing the quality and value of Idol.

I was really disappointed with the show tonight. I didn’t see anything that really blew me away but there were some ok performances …I voted for Phil Phillips, Colton Dixon and Creighton. Really disappointed in Eben. Heejun was good but just felt kinda disconnected for some reason. Top five for me wiere
Phil, Colton, Creighton, Aaron, and Heejun. Adam can sing but I just don’t like him for some reason. Loved Reed in the earlier rounds but not tonight.

Horribly odd song for eben…that was the cause of his off night. would like to get a chance to hear him sing a song better suited…he’s got a good pure voice. nobody does Adele justice except Adele.

The closest thing they had to an Adele type singer, was Lauren Gray — and they threw her to the dogs.
The next closest thing is Elise Testone – and they haven’t given her near the love and cameo’s some of the other girls have gotten – and she doesn’t have the YouTube/Twitter play that some others are building —
so she is at long-odds —– and will have to actually sing her way through to get anywhere.

Sound mixing sucks…. Can barely hear the contestants… How can America judge?

While we know that more than 5 of the boys must go —-
These 5 are the most likely eliminations, and will most likely not be saved> I thought Eben would be saved if he didn’t make the cut — until I seen that Jermaine will likely be voted-in, or pull that save spot if needed.
Chances of a save if cut??
Adam Brock- No chance
Eben Franckewitz – very low chance
Jeremy Rosado – sorry, no, maybe try next year
Aaron Marcellus – No chance
DeAndre Brackensick – 2nd try, maybe you can try a 3rd time – no save, sorry

okay…philip phillips (sp?)…Dave Matthews was mentioned but what about Lindsey Buckingham…seriously…In the Air Tonight.rh..was in my opinion…Fannnnnnn-tastic…doesn’t get better than a Lindsey/Dave cross…wow…to imagine if they ever really collaborated..would be magical. In the meantime…we can listen to Philip’s rendition of the one and only Mr. Collins and dream of him being joined by Mr. Matthews and Mr. Buckingham…now that would be one hell of a concert!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody stop let’s get behind the Ga boy Phillip Phillips. Think he is very talented and has much potential for growth. Amazing at the Savannah audition.
