FX’s Atlanta-created ‘Archer’ renewed for fourth season

archer season 3

FX is bestowing fast-rising spy Atlanta-created animated spoof “Archer” a fourth season before the third one is even over.

Renewals that come while the previous season is still ongoing is always a sign of confidence.

FX’s patience has been rewarded. The show, which airs on Thursday evenings, opened a bit on the slow side in 2009 season one but as the cult of Sterling Archer has grown, so has the fan base.

Counting DVR use for a week after the original airing, the show is pulling in two million viewers a week so far, up 32 percent from season two. Counting repeats, the show is averaging 3.3 million viewers.

There are four more new episodes this season, ending March 22. The fourth season will have 13 episodes.

Former Conyers resident Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) guest voices on tonight’s episode at 10 p.m.

Matt Thompson, one of the Atlanta creators, who works with Adam Reed at Floyd County Productions near Emory University sent me two quotes to choose from that he sent to the FX publicists. The press release includes the second one but the first one is arguably funnier:

It is really wonderful to hear all of the nice things some very smart and talented people at FX are saying about working with us.  I am going to frame this press release and hand it to my wife.  I now have official proof that I am good at something, despite her claims to the contrary.

I feel like a won an award or something.  I get to keep making smart, funny TV for smart, funny people.  I realize this is rare and I am going to ride along until someone kicks me off.

FX has also signed a production deal with their Atlanta-based production company.  Floyd County already animates FX’s new series “Unsupervised.”

And here’s the flattering press release quote from FX VP Eric Schrier:

“Adam and Matt are incredibly gifted producers and we’re proud to have them and Floyd County under the FX Productions umbrella,” said Schrier. “Archer has been an incredibly successful title for FXP, from ratings to DVD sales, iTunes, merchandise and even its bestselling book. They’ve done an outstanding job of animating Unsupervised. This is a great deal for FXP as we continue to expand the studio, and it affords us the ability to aggressively pursue new animated projects.”

The 3 part series when Archer was a pirate king was by far one of the most funniest animated shows i had seen. I could not stop laughing. Archer right now is the funniest animation on TV period!!!!

FX has had some of the best shows ever. The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Damages, Justified, Rescue Me, etc. The only good channel to watch these days!

Archer is a treasure that I am glad I discovered in Season 1. Just when you think it can’t get any funnier you end up rolling on the floor laughing. Can we possibly hope for a full length feature? Also, how hilarious would a Piers Morgan Interview of the Cast be? The possibilities are ENDLESS! Keep up the good work guys! Look forward to many great seasons!

Rodney:

Do you have insight into why the company is called Floyd County Productions?

Are the founders from the Rome, GA area?

Too bad the writing has been so bad this season.

I love Archer! It’s witty and fresh — but I do agree that the writing has gotten a smidge stale this season.

The writers for this show are absolutely insane, and I love them for it! I am on the floor after every episode! Last week’s ep with the assisinated Italian Prime Minister in Mallory’s apartment was classic! I died during the scene where all of them were dressed up to fool the detective and Archer kept calling Lana a “sullen wench” was priceless! LMAO!!

1 more season of Lana Kane!!!!!! I’m sorry, but she is the ultimate woman (too bad she’s not real, or IS SHE???) She’s super sexy and cand beat up/kill anyone that tries to mess with you when you are with her. The down side is she can do the same to YOU if you do her wrong.
