BET has greenlit a pilot for a new Atlanta-based hour-long drama called “Single Black Female,” according to Deadline.com.
Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, who created BET’s biggest show “The Game,” are the executive producers.
The show -not to be mistaken for VH1’s ‘Single Ladies” or the film “Single White Female” – will feature a black woman who hosts a popular Atlanta-based talk show. Casting does not appear to be finalized.
Mo’Nique would be a great choice to play the host, though that would be awkward since BET axed her actual Atlanta-based talk show last year after two seasons.
Mara Brock Akil wrote the film “Sparkle,” which stars the now late Whitney Houston and is set to be released in August. Her husband Salim, who directed the 2011 film “Jumping the Broom,” directed.
BET currently produces “Let’s Stay Together” and “The Game” in Atlanta, as well as ‘Reed Between the Lines,” which did not do particularly well in its first season last year. No word yet on whether “Reed” will come back for a sophomore year or not.

The Game is a joke, let’s stay together is sub-par and Jumping the broom look like a low budget, no talent waste of film.
So just loking at the title I am sure the Single Black Female will be another sad attempt to show the life of a single black woman who bashes evrything in her path…
THanks but I wil stick with Good time and the Cosby show..lol

I’m not sure about this new show, but I would like to add my two cents about Reed Between the Lines. I had a chance to catch the marathon of the show weeks ago. I like the show but did not love it. The really like the fact that it centered around a happy black married couple with successful regular careers(i.e. Doctor, educator instead of a ball player or entertainer) who work as a team and are heavily involved in the lives of there kids. However, I thought it was a little corny and slightly pretentious at times. Overall, I think that with some tweeking and an earlier time slot the show can be a success. I hope BET and the audience give this show a chance because we desperately need more positive images of us on TV. If BET does get rid of it, I hope it will go to TVone, which I think is a better station anyway. Just my opinion.

BET… filming in the ATL? Say it isn’t so. I’d heard they were going to produce their next show in Iowa.

Single black females, with 14 kids, 15 baby daddy (don’t ask). Sounds like REALITY TV to me – do I hear BET wanting to do this.
