Elton John plays ‘king’ in Pepsi Super Bowl ad with ‘X Factor’ winner Melanie Amaro

Part-time Atlantan Elton John will appear in a Super Bowl ad with “X Factor” winner Melanie Amaro.

Here’s a press release descriptive of the ad and boy, did the publicist who wrote this really “pour it on.”

Set in a rock-fantasy version of medieval times, the 60 second commercial features Melanie Amaro performing in front of a “royal court of rock,” including Elton John’s character, the King. The ad establishes Pepsi as the brand for people who are not afraid to take a chance, raise their voice and give it their all. It also highlights the fact that Pepsi has an irresistible taste worth challenging a king for. With epic Pepsi scale and a big dose of humor, the commercial ends with a twist and the tagline, “Where there’s Pepsi, There’s Music”.

Part of Amaro’s victory, besides $5 million, was a Pepsi ad.

And since the Super Bowl is now an all-day event, CMT is holding a “Fan Jam” featuring Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood.

Oh boy! she said sarcastically

The worst part of this video? It has a moment with robo-host!

And I notice that she isn’t using the accent either! I guess she got the voters she wanted.

How long until someone gives us an Elton John joke that involves the word “queen”?

Fan Jam, ok. The Voice later that night. Are they going to showcase their coup of having Kelly on right away, or save that one for later?

Interesting video. I hope Melanie does well. Having seen Elton many times in concert his King costume is conservative, although the duck costume was priceless.

I’d be willing to bet The VOICE has it’s best contestants after the Super Bowl. If they were smart they edited the show to showcase the best they have. Maybe a contestant or two would give it a push upwards in the battle for ratings especially since it will compete weekly against Idol. I do wonder if the judges or producers of the two shows will get into a war of words anytime soon. Bet they do at some point.

JT, not sure, but Kelly is singing the National Anthem so she’ll be part of the festivities as well. Go Team Idol….jk.

Oh, and Hi y’all!

An “iconic” Pepsi commercial? More like a “moronic” Pepsi commercial.

PS. Jenny, if I recall correctly the problems Baylie had with Antonella and the other girl were that the Jersey girls were BFFs and started doing their thing and left her out. Typical Hollywood round Idol drama. To top it off, she forgot her lyrics which used to be a cardinal sin, nowadays…not so much.

Good for her, …I guess. During X-Factor, it sure sounded like the winner was going to be the STAR of a Pepsi commercial ala Britney, Ray Charles and Michael Jackson. With Elton involved, is anyone seriously going to refer to her as the star of the commercial? Don’t think so.

Do we know whether or not her fee for the commercial is part of the $5 mil?

Seeing the picture of Elton & Melanie makes me think it’s a commercial for “Imperial Margarine” – where you take a bite and a crown pops up on your head!

Okay, the sidebar has here the Entertainment Video section and in it one of the videos is captioned “The Help Wins Big At the SAG Awards.” But the accompanying still is of Kate Beckinsale (sp?) from Underworld Awakening!

Weird!

Interesting video! Elton is one of my favorite artists of all time. There is so little these days that compares to his music…. back in the Brown Dirt Cowboy days… just nothing like it now. :-) Look forward to seeing him with Melanie. (and D, I think she still shows a trace of the accent occasionally…?? Not real strong, but I do think sometimes people’s accents come out stronger when they’re very emotional.)

Looking forward to Kelly’s national anthem at the Super Bowl, too! I am much more excited about that, and halftime, and commercials, than I am about the actual football. ;-)

Hey Mercedes, I saw you are gone for a while, but if you do happen to check in, I was going to ask how you liked Touch? Anyone else see it? I really liked it!

I too was hoping this was the last week of auditions, but yep, my DVR says an audition show next Wed, then (finally) Hollywood next Thurs. I sure am ready for them to get moving along….

Oh, thanks K&CF! I didn’t see your Baylie comment before I posted above. I remember her forgetting the lyrics, but sure had forgotten all the drama that went with it!

For me (for you), another one of the issues with X-F was the difference in Simon. Everyone tuning in expecting to see the same old tough, snide, honest critiques from SC was sorely disappointed. The primary target of Simon’s snideness and snark was the other judges/mentors. Very little directed to the contestants themselves (it was always the mentor’s fault if the performance sucked!)

And Melanie was a perfect example. On Idol, Simon would have never let her get away with doing the same type of song every week. (The same thing that Pia Toscano was derided for.) But since she was Simon’s girl, she got a pass.

Not saying she didn’t sing well, just pointing to the change (for the worse, IMO) in Simon.

Ya’ll still some haters. Get over it, she won and it ain’t nothing yall can do it about. So shut up!! She ain’t worried about what yall saying cause she 5 million dollars richer, accent or no accent.

That’s exactly what was wrong with Simon! I couldn’t put my finger on it when I said he’d lost his Simon-ness. Thank you Highlander! And as much as I like Melanie, I do agree she got a pass on the song style. He should’ve learned his lesson when he lost Drew!

And the other worst offenders were Astro and Chris Renee. On Idol, they’d never have been able to get away with just rapping. (Although Chris at least tried to mix it up.) Although then again, last year Scotty was allowed to do country every week.

And yes, the mentor bickering was almost unwatchable… ugh!

I hated(yes, I’m a hater) the judges on X-F. Fake!!!!!!

I hated the host! Incompetent!

I thought Melanie had a beautiful voice….if I had voted, I would have voted for Josh but Melanie deserved to win. The accent thing was HER doing. She made a huge big deal about suppressing her accent and how she didn’t have to do that anymore. Apparently she does.

Congrats to her for not only winning be being the FIRST WINNER of the show..this means there will be a big push for her to have a music career…HOWEVER..not to be mean..she does need an “image”makeover….if were her I would be considering a “contract” with nutrisystem or weight watchers like many other stars..

Thanks skeeter…I really like you, too!

What the heck happened to this country? There was a time when people understood the difference between facts and opinions. Now, someone who states an opinion that might disagree with others is the perfect excuse for others to start calling that person names. Instead of just saying, “I disagree and here’s why” the attack dogs come out with teeth bared and nastiness in their hearts.

Frankly, I would love to discuss why I feel the way I do and listen to why YOU feel the way you do but that is not allowed anymore. Instead, I get snide, underhanded, passive-aggressive comments about me personally rather than allowing a difference of opinion to open doors to an interesting, FRIENDLY discussion.

Childishness!

What get’s me is this line: “you think the AI folks on here have stock in the show”

Could it be that the “AI folks” also watched X-Factor, and therefore are also “X-Factor folks”? Yes, some people do watch more than one television show.

Deirdre~ sorry you had a long day. I have reread my post 100X and the post I referenced. I have yet to find a single mention of your moniker. You are correct, what has happened to this country? I visit several different blogs on AJC and all you read is hate and tearing other people down. Usually I comment when I feel someone think his/her likes or dislikes makes the world go around.

skeeter, you praised dinky’s post. dinky told us to “shut up” and mentioned Melanie’s accent issues. Talent show names in the current top 100 – per Yahoo Music Charts……..
at:
#9 Maroon 5/Adam Levine – Moves Like Jagger
#13 Kelly Clarkson – Mr. Know it All
#27 Jennifer Lopez – Papi
#84 David Cook – Fade into Me
#89 Maroon 5/ Adam Levine – She Will Be Loved (older hit came back after the Voice.)
#100 Daughtry – No Surprise

Blake Shelton has been ramping-up the Country Charts, Christina and Cee Lo have been busy with appearances — Steven Tyler is getting lotsa TV and Fox related stuff. Did someone say it’s more about the Celebrity Judges?

Seen where Scotty McCreery songs are selling very well in Country markets and Lauren has all the work she can schedule. Both have been well accepted and welcomed into the Country Music circles, where Carrie Underwood is now a true mega-star.

@@jtesla… yeah Jennifer Hudson only won the Oscar once she became thin… oh wait she didn’t and she isn’t really all that super thin now. In fact, she’s probably about the same size as Melanie, so what was your point?

Oh wait, I need to look around the mags… I see Kelly Clarkson and Kim Kardashian. Not really petite, skinny girls.

Also see that both Steve Jones and Nicole Sherzinger will not be part of X-Factor in 2012. Not a big surprise after Simon had said in an interview after the close of the show that there would be a shake-up to shoot for higher ratings next year.

Melanie is a very good singer and should do well, there’s a big commitment to her on contract and heard there are a number of video producers competing for a piece of the action – to get the call to do some of the promo work.

Deidre, you right everyone does have an opinion, but why do they always have to be negative. What does a person accent have to do with their talent. Maybe saying shut up was a little harsh and I do apologize for that. I’m just so tired of people being so negative. I think Melanie deserves everything she got and that’s my opinion. I also think that Chris and Josh will get what they deserve, beacause they were great singers also.

dinky, I don’t have anything against Melanie at all. As a matter of fact, I think the little hissy fits she threw after a couple of her performances(one of them being her ranting about being afraid for people to hear her accent) were staged(or at least, encouraged) by Simon. I think poor, shy little Melanie was manipulated by a man who was desperate to raise the ratings on his show.

I also think that the show did a terrible dis-service to some very good singers by turning them into fodder for arguments between Simon and LA. I’m mad at the show for trying to manipulate me, not Melanie or any of the other contestants.

i think Rodney’s blogs need a “rating system” for comments (athens newspapers comments after articles, similar to rodney’s blog, has a + or – for every comment, and i frankly LOVE to see the numbers go up on either side when someone’s “controversial” or particularly good, or particularly bad, in their comments…. wonder if we can get him to get the software people to add that feature for us…

and D, i’m glad to see that you’re in good form in taking on the trolls, because i sure miss being able to do it, and am having currently to live vicariously through you and JT and a few others, LOL

MISS YOU GUYS!!!!
