‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap: season 4, episode 12: Marlo vs. Sheree!

Loading ...Honestly, most fans watch these “Housewives”-type shows for the silly cat fights. Sometimes, they get physical. Sometimes, they are simply verbal. But you can hear the mewing from miles away.
Tonight, “Real Housewives of Atlanta” has the verbal tussle of the season to date, courtesy of Sheree Whitfield and “Housewives” wannabe/plant Marlo Hampton during the start of their 10-day trip to South Africa.
Hampton is edited in the most unflattering way this episode. First of all, trip organizer Phaedra Parks and her posse, Kandi Burruss and Sheree, are annoyed by Hampton just showing up, invited by NeNe Leakes. Team Phaedra also find Marlo overly gabby and obsessed with “etiquette.” Heck, she even annoying tests Phaedra on “etiquette,” then does the “buzzer” sound when she gets it wrong. Classy!
“I doubt Emily Post has a chapter on aggravated assault,” said Sheree, alluding to Marlo’s seven arrests, including one for aggravated assault.
“Blah blah blah! She never stops talking!” Kandi said to the cameras. She even said in Marlo’s ear shot. “This one needs a muzzle!”
NeNe is bemused by all this tension, probably because she caused it by invited Marlo in the first place.
The six women (including Cynthia Bailey) settle into Cape Town in a lovely penthouse for a day before going on safari. Sheree at first jokes that she wants to room with NeNe and Phaedra. Everyone is stunned silent. Then, waiting the proper beat, Sheree said, “Just kidding!” Maybe Sheree should get into stand-up comedy! Even NeNe found that one funny.
Phaedra the next morning gives a hand mirror to each lady as a gift for coming – except Marlo, since Marlo wasn’t invited. Mildly awkward but then it gets worse.
Sheree says a friend of hers in South Africa invited them to a dinner party but she only invited Phaedra and Kandi, not Cynthia or NeNe (or Marlo, for that matter.).
Marlo later that day confronts Kandi for not being friendly enough to her at a mall. “She gave me a phony a** hi and kept walking,” Marlo said. (This isn’t even high school level silliness. This is middle-school level silliness!) “I ain’t like that!” Kandi said, scrunching her face up. Though this argument dies on the vine, Kandi clearly does not like Marlo. That “hi” probably was “phony a**.”)
Then NeNe goes after Phaedra for being cold to her. Phaedra won’t take this type of bait. She denies any reason to be chilly toward NeNe. I can’t recall anything specific about why they never became buddies but they have kind of circled each other warily since Phaedra popped up season three.
Just before Team Phaedra leaves for Sheree’s friend’s party, Cynthia comes by and Sheree surprisingly invites Cynthia to the party – but not NeNe and Marlo. Cynthia goes right back to NeNe and Marlo to tell them exactly what happened. (Yes, this is middle school! Or maybe elementary school?)
NeNe doesn’t care. She didn’t want to go to some Sheree-connected party anyway. But Marlo sees an opening to generate some drama and maybe solidify her shot at getting on the cast!
She runs over to Team Phaedra and confronts Sheree about not getting invited. “I have no idea why Marlo is so pressed about going to the party. Marlo and I are not friends. What’s the problem?” Sheree said later.
Marlo dumps all that etiquette crap and gets down and dirty: “That’s why you don’t have a man. Go hang with the f****ts, you ugly stupid a**.” Oh, yes, Marlo used a nasty gay slur. As Kandi noted, “I don’t know etiquette but I know you’re not supposed to say that!”
The argument escalates into bizarreness. I can’t understand most of what is being said. And the editors don’t even bother captioning most of it. The crux is that Marlo accuses Sheree of being broke and pretending to be rich while Sheree accuses Marlo of sleeping with a rich 80 year old just for the money. They make funny faces and utter noises at each other.
“They’re speaking in tongues or Spanish. It’s becoming gibberish at this point,” Phaedra said.
“Is this how I look in an argument? This looks absolutely stupid,” NeNe said.
Cynthia said if she knew her middle-school actions would cause this, she wouldn’t have said anything. Uh huh.
NeNe even tries to break it up but all we get is a “TO BE CONTINUED.”
Question: did all these ladies pay for this trip out of their own pocket? Or did “Real Housewives” producers “help out.”
In other “Housewives” news:
- Kim Zolciak is the only one who didn’t go to South Africa. She gets a token scene. She’s stuck at home without Kroy (in training camp) but with her son and Sweetie. Her father visits and says how much he likes Kroy and thinks they balance each other out. Kim’s youngest daughter said Kroy told her a ring is coming soon. Kim is annoyed by Sweetie because she’s not helping Kim enough. (Possibly setting up for Sweetie’s departure?)

“Marlo should be grateful she has a place to lay her head. Maybe she could plan her own trip so she can have exactly what she wants.” – Phaedra

NEXT WEEK VIA THE TRAILER
We see some scenes of the women on safari. NeNe seems especially antsy. The fall-out from the Marlo/Sheree battle was not clarified. We do see Marlo throwing cash up in the air at a bar. And Phaedra gets teary-eyed hanging with poor South African kids.
RATINGS
Episode 11 last week drew 2.77 million viewers, slightly up from a season low 2.7 million a week earlier. The show, which airs at 9 p.m., is now getting beaten by “Kourtney & Kim Takes New York” on E!, which drew 2.9 million an hour later. It’s also behind the comparable 11th episode a year ago at about 160,000 fewer viewers.

Cynthis should not have gone back and told Nene and Marlo about her invitation if she did not plan to attend the party. There was no need. On the other hand Sheree should not have just invited some and not all to the party. Sheree really set this hold thing in motion. So she is the messy one. I do wish Sheree would stop referring to herself as cute, the girl is not cute by a long shot. In fact she is beginning to appear more masculine (thick neck), she just has on makeup. I think Marlo’s chatter was nervous chatter, she was trying hard to fit in but I do agree with Kandi, she needed to just shut up. About the mirrors I think it was a nice gesture by Pheadra to tell Marlo that she would be receiving one also and that the only reason she did get one was because she was not aware that Marlo would be traveling with them.

First, Marlo and NeNe both were wrong! Marlon was not invited and NeNe knew exactly what she was doing when she invited her. NeNe needs back up and Marlo was it. The etiquette lesson was almost too funny! How you are going to talk about etiquette on a trip you were not invited on and with 7 arrests? I think Marlo is an opportunist and it is a good thing she is friends with NeNe (birds of a feather), Cynthia needs to act her age, running back and forth between two groups of women is not cute!

I didn’t watch this episodde but reading the recap about how Sheree only invited some to that party reminded me of Season 1 when she invited NeNe to her party and then took her name off the guestlist and pretended there was a mishap. lol That was just low-down.

Each of these women are peculiar in some way. Let’s begin with Nene. While I support that she appears to have garnered herself and children some added level of financial security (I admire any single mother/woman for that); she should now seek some classes in character, values and etiquette).
KANDI: I’ve always said since the season Kandi joined the show that her true self would eventually surface. (she was always a phony — and wasn’t it her who coined the term “bour-ghetto?’). This show has been her oppt’y to vindicate the many years she felt slighted for not getting what she felt was enough public credit for the song she wrote for Destiny’s Child. She’s got some skills but she’s so fearful of some other “really” talented female–(excluding a user like Kim–potentially outshining her, that she shot herself in the foot by putting her skills to work for Kim (thinking Kim would do right by her–but we all saw how that played out in front of the entire nation). And it served her right. I personally know that she had an oppt’y to help a truly talented female musician–who could’ve made money and a come-up for both of them–but Kandi’s insecurity got in the way of that happening.
CYNTHIA: It’s sad that this woman who once had a rather successful modeling career.seems to be so “needy” that she’d cling to Nene of all persons, and esteem Peter the man worthy of her commitment to marry.
PHAEDRA: Obviously a smart women (after all no dummy graduates law school and passes the bar) but she could benefit from losing the over-the-top “Southern” /”self-righteous/ ” thing (it actually diminishes the qualities she already has going in her favor.
SHEREE: Just needs to be true to herself and her dreams will eventually come to pass. (Also I’m sure looking back, she realizes she have left well enough alone and not extended the invitation to Cynthia. (she should’ve known better, but I think she wanted to befriend Cynthia–because she feels Cynthia’s career might make a comeback due to the show ((and Sheree wants to be friends with “anyone” she thinks will “benefit” her by association–which is the only reason she’s having anything to do with Kim or Phaedra for that matter))
MARLO: This girl (were it not for her criminal past that she’s going too overboard to try and compensate for) would have a lot going for her. On the one hand, I think she’s a “keep it 100″ type person. But the concern about being judged for her past makes her feel she has to prove she’s respectable through materialism and associating with those she believes the masses respect (i.e. Ted Turner’s girlfriend). Everybody has a past, though some more animated than others.

Cynthia looks and reminds me of the black wind up talking doll I purchased for my daughter many years ago as a Christmas present which was tall, black, with long hair, in a red dress and stylish all boxed up with a big label on the front “Batteries NOT Included”..
So boring is Cynthia ; Kandi’s BUTT is extremely big, she needs to do something about it; Phadre, I love her one liners and those big wonderful shiny glossed lips, which are good for you know what (call me); Sheree, I have no idea what to say about a woman who simply has her priorities screwed up, a typical broke wannbe; Kim, thank God for the mute button on my remote control as I have no idea what she is saying nor do I care; NeNe…well….all I can say is Ne Ne is getting paid but seriously, you’re not Rich Bytch…and you need to upgrade that mop your wearing, it’s getting old…;Marlo, pure Ghetto Fabulous and admits she did it all for the money, hey at least she is honest about spreading it and getting paid…

I want NeNe and Kim back together as friends.
I like Marlo Hampton, she is just trying too hard to get on the show. Like she said (which I am inclined to believe), her house and car are paid for (by who doesn’t matter). It seems that none of these ladies are above lying down to get their money so the pot calling the kettle black is bizarre among this group of women. Let us not forget that Sheree was a kept chick while she was with Whitfield and has no laurels to her name….and Kandi wasn’t checking Kim for Big Poppa so why the stones for Marlo’s geezer macking???………How can Sheree throw stones at Marlo’s paid for townhouse when she lives in an apartment with an Aston Martin and her son appears to be sleeping on a mattress on the floor?
Kandi has been rumored to be a hop on hop off chick too…and her fixation with sex seems to be right on target. Question: who would marry a chick with that many miles? So how can she be coming down on Marlo for her past indiscretions when AJ had some indiscretions of his own…including a gaggle of children and a harem of baby mamas….moving on
Phaedra…moving on, I actually like her, she’s kinda phony, but I still like her. Everybody knows that a lawyer who defended Bobby Brown has some issues of her own……..
Cynthia is a doe-eyed Bambi part II…it is unfortunate that she is caught up with this group of jackals…but make no mistake, she does speak up for herself….even when she confronted NeNe about the friendship contract….she didn’t back down….of this group, she is the only woman willing to speak up to the person that is bothering her FACE TO FACE. And when asked about what she said SHE ADMITS IT. Don’t sleep on Cynthia…she is the only one who is not phony.
Peter and Apollo…2 down-low peas in a pod…I saw how Peter was checking out Ri-dick-ulous (or however it is spelled)…and Lawrence. They were just trying to figure out who would be the bottom when they argued at the baby shower…….Apollo is the girl in that relationship..moving on.
The moral of the story is, don’t say that someone else is trashy when your own backyard needs to be cleaned. They are all more alike than they are willing to admit.

I’m perplexed. Why is everyone on the “Poor Sweetie” wagon again? Sweetie is a grown woman. This is a job she has chosen, thankless or otherwise. It seems people are looking for reasons or looking for the “oppression” of Sweetie when none exists. First, we must consider editing. Kroy may have very well said goodbye and it was edited out of the scene. Moreover, Sweetie has a job working in a clean environment where she has the freedom to essentially say whatever she likes, wear what she likes, in a nice area of town… I don’t know about you all, but as an employee, where else do you have those freedoms? I surely don’t have the freedom to say whatever, wear whatever, or have the leisure that Sweetie has.
If it were so awful, Sweetie could seek employment elsewhere. He He, Cyneedia, Marlon, and Kandi are all messy and miserable. Misery loves company. What Marlon does for his money is his business. HeHe is hilarious, but is also a petulant Sasquatch. Cyneedia is HeHe’s canine companion. What Kim does for her money is also her business. Like she says, she is happy, has a man and a new baby–all hate invitations that the others gladly RSVP for.
Phaedra is hilarious. I wouldn’t mess with an ol’ burly woman with an assault record either.

Yes the Atl housewives are a ghetto mess, but they are so funny and entertaining. I laugh so much last night. I haven’t been keeping up with them this season, but I watched the whole episode last night. It was funny!!! I’m gonna have to give that fight to Marlo though. Sheree didn’t back down, but I have no clue as to what she was saying.

I love the comments.. Kim has obtained her weatlh from Big Popa and was once engaged with a married man. Now she is married to a young hottie and everything forgiven. Nene had a fight with Kim in Kandi’s tout bus for the way that Kim treated her assistant as a second class citizen. No one applauded Nene for doing that. Kandi made kim a superstar with the song and never received a dime for mer. This ok because Kim is now a saint. Sheree who has nothing in her life.. barely spends time with her children, is building a house but now is friend with Kim because no one stood by Nene when she had it with Kim regarding Seetine, her assistant. Phaedra who I like but found very funny since everybody is worried about Marlot pass who has been arrested 7 times but was never convicted.. but Appolo did and is married to an attorney. I know he commited a white crime.. Selling drug and stealing millions from JP morgan are two different crimes. I miss Lisa, the former housewife who was friend with Nene. They were good together and Nene has someone who was inteeligent to back her up. Sheree is childish, Phaedra as an educated woman could not tell Sheree she needs to obtain a job. Kandi is a music producer, Nene has had some business adventrue and Cynthia used to be a model and where does Sheree gets her finance. Marlot is honest about who she is and I think that she is beautiful and whether she is sleeping with a 80 years old man at least she is not lying about it. What happened to the causes and charity events in the past seasons: For the abuse women.. Lisa and Nene did something good. It is just television and some people are making money. I still like Nene and I think the rest of them are jealous of her. Again no one is out sin some earns it more than others.

Rodney, is it true that Sheree has a criminal past as well? Didn’t she get arrested for shoplifting from SAKS many years ago? Anyone, is this true? if so, she needs to shut the hell up. a thief will do anything. where is her moral compass? And for the life of me I do not understand how you can be married to an NFL player, one who had a long career no less, and you did NOTHING to advance yourself educationally and put yourself on a career path; something to fall back on. Now you’re broke with two kids, Bob’s broke… Sad and typical from both perspectives. From what I can tell, Sherree does not have ONE marketable skill.

Let me start off by saying that I can’t stand Sheree. I think she’s fake & two faced just like the other women on the show with that being said it was her perogative not to invite the other ladies to her friend’s house. She doesn’t associate with Cynthia, Nene, and Marlo in Atlanta so why extend a invitation to her friend’s house, so Nene could show her behind like she did last year when Kim invited everyone to stay at her friend’s house in Miami.
Why was Marlo so pressed to go to the dinner anyway? It’s not like her and Sheree even associate with one another. Just a couple of episodes back she invited Nene to a charity event, and I don’t think she extended an invite to the other ladies. So what was the big deal about Sheree not inviting the “talls”. Blowing up at Sheree was totally uncalled for. Classy people don’t act like that. I highly doubt she would blow up at Ted Turner’s daughter like that for not inviting her to her next charity event.
I’m glad Nene took the high road for once. Every episode I dislike Kim more and more.
Cynthia needs to grow a backbone and stop waiting for Peter & Nene to lead her.

I hear you. I think it has something to do with desperation, tired of being alone, self esteem, and sex. Yes, sex. Sex makes you stupid; makes you think you’re in love, but chances are you’re in love with the thought of being in love, basically a fantasy. my friends and I (both men and women) have this conversation all the time. I believe that most people out there aren’t marraige material and I feel blessed to be in a loving relationship. but there’s NO WAY I will be drawn to a man with a long feloniuos background and NO WAY I will be drawn to a single man with a bunch of kids. it says things about the man that I’m not interested in, at all.

What a show last night…..I had to watch it TWICE! You know what the TALLS look just like men with the exception of Cynthia, with all that Hair, Make-Up and High Heel shoes. They would make perfect contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Queen show. Only if they knew…..how much they look like MEN! Okay, Marlo was way out of line last night and made an big deal out of nothing. Sheree didn’t want you to go, so get over it! I can’t believe she showed her butt like that and wasn’t personally invited on the trip by the planner. She caused tension for the rest of the trip.
Did anyone hear Cynthia talking about Phaedra robe from Marshall’s? LMAO! Funny show……They off the chain! Also, Marlo still have not learned an lesson….she confronted Sheree about something so childish! You would think being in jail for 6 months she would not start arguing with folks. Sheree stood her ground and handled her. GO SHEREE!

NeNe made me laugh last night.. something she hasn’t made me do in a long time. The look of horror on her face while Marlo was going balistic was freaking hysterical.. Of course she set this whole thing in motion by inviting Marlo and not letting anyone know.

Kim I’m glad she is away from Big Poppa and has settled down with a husband and a real family. I see she gets her quirkiness from her dad.. he’s a character.
I agree with everyone that says…leave sweetie alone.. she has a good job…she isn’t being oppressed, beaten and forced to do anything she doesn’t want to do. She isn’t a slave she is a free person with a free will. If she doesn’t like her job she can quit and find something else.

I like the “Talls,” at least they are for real, for real. Don’t hate on Cynthia – I think she is cool. …And the nerve of the “Shorts” talking about who’s kissing some “butt.” In my opinion, Sheree and Kandi are kissing Phaedra’s butt. They run up behind her like she is a queen. I do like Phaedra and I love the trip she planned. I do not care for Kandi this season – she is totally two-faced, and I’m sorry, but in my opinion, the so-called “Shorts,” appear to be jealous of NeNe and Cynthia. …And Sheree thinks she is hurting NeNe by not inviting her to her friend’s place. She did the same thing in Season I, I believe by not inviting NeNe to her party at her now “foreclosed” home. NeNe doesn’t care about Sheree. The proper thing for a classy lady to do would have been to invite all that were on the trip. As usual, Sheree made herself look “classless.” …And why argue with Marlo? Sheree should have just walked off after “inviting” Marlo to her friend’s place. By not arguing, Sheree would have made Marlo look stupid. I hope the show keeps Marlo, she is a hoot! As for Kim, I believe she is trying to get rid of Sweetie and I think it’s because Kroy wants her to. Kroy, in my opinion, is a “redneck” who is totally uncomfortable being around black people. I hope Sweetie quits before she is fired; let them hire someone white who Kroy will be comfortable around. I don’t think he wants Sweetie touching his child, and I think Sweetie is aware of this and that’s why she did not help Kim with cleaning the baby. BTW, Kim is totally irrelevant on this show now. She is supposed to be getting her own show, but I wonder how many folks will tune in. I also find it interesting that Andy Cohen would have Kim and Kroy on his show discussing the other women’s “African” trip!

To be honest I think they all need to go some wher an sit their azz down. It’s a shame the way they are portraying housewives of Atlanta. That argument last night was STUPID STUPID STUIPD. I stopped watching and went got on my computer. And Cynthia needs to grow the hell up. She knew that running back to tell Marlo and NeNe what had been said would start crap like that. And Kim oh my GODDDDD. Don’t have any other words for her. Atlanta should have this pulled from the television.

Based on the footage we have seen, before the trip Sheree and Marlo did not have any beef. I think Sheree told Cynthia about the party to try and set off Nene. Sheree already knew that Cynthia was going to tell Nene. Sheree and Phaedra constantly complain about Cynthia being Nene’s lackey. Sheree was not expecting Marlo to go off on her and neither was Nene. I hear that Marlo and Sheree know each other through Lawrence. I’ve been noticing that Lawrence has been to a lot of Marlo’s events. Also, the insults to one another seem to be very personal in nature. Some of the things about Marlo are not publically known. To this day, no one can really say where Marlo’s money comes from or who gave it to her! It is mostly speculation at this point. There is some kond of triangle between Phaedra, Sheree, Lawrence, and Marlo that we are not aware of.

Well, next week, Shree will be the one instigating. But this time, her instigations will be trans Atlantic, as she will call Kim to tell her what Kandi said. So, I guess that will be OK, as long as it is not Cynthia or NeNe. I LOVE me some NeNe Leaks. She could care less if Sheree invited her or not. And, as Kandi said, kudos to her for attemptig to de-fuse the situation. But, Marlo DID call Sheree’ out with having air mattresses. And having cars (yes, I said CARS) repossessed. I thought that was funny. And Sheree’ talking about Marlo not having a stand alone house. Give it up to Marlo. She is smart. She don’t need that expense if it is, just, her. Now, not to knock anyone who is single and have a house. But, if YOU don’t want a house, YOU don’t have to have one. Just as long as you have a roof over your head. But, ain’t it funny how Marlo (with Charles Grant) was introduced to us as Phaedra’s friend and Sheree’ was all pro-Marlo until Marlo and NeNe became cool with one another? I have to turn the channel (or focus my attention elsewhere) when Kim is on. She has gone from baffoon to down right intolerable. But, hey, if she (and her crew, to include Sweetie) like it, hey, I love it!!!

Marlo is not a good role model for women. I hope they do not leave her on the show and find somebody else that does not have a criminal history. I love Nene but she is wrong in most of the arguments she has with the other women. I hope she saw herself when Marlo and Sheree got into it. Nene has a lot of potential to become a star. I find it interesting that Bravo did not create another housewives show featuring black women; I understand housewives of Atlanta is number one of all the housewives.
