Kelly Clarkson endorses Ron Paul, gets hit hard on Twitter

When it comes to endorsements, everyone looks to “American Idol,” right? They at least have the “vote early, vote often” concept down pat.

Kelly Clarkson tweeted her support for Libertarian-leaning Ron Paul early Thursday and set off a maelstrom. Here’s the Tweet:

I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.

Some Paul opponents began attacking her selection, noting that he had a newsletter out years ago that featured commentary against gays and various races. He has said he didn’t write them and isn’t racist or homophobic. She responded thusly:

I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite

As more people kept hitting her hard, she fought back in a very reasonable manner:

Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don’t agree with me simply unfollow me. It’s really that easy. I hope you don’t because I would love the chance to hear what you have to say but if you’re so blinded by hate you can’t seek peace and progress then that is your unfortunate prerogative.

Let’s start with a clarification for all you idiots that have never bothered to find out anything about Dr. Ron Paul. He does not have a Ph.D. He is an M.D. with a degree from Duke University. He is an OB/GYN who delivered about 4000 babies over his years as a doctor. He didn’t get an “honorary” degree has so many others have. He EARNED it, worked hard in his own practise. Never took medicare or other government entitlement money but never turned away a patient because they couldn’t pay.

Unlike our current president, he actually knows what goes on in the healthcare industry, how protectionist medical licensure laws and AMA monopoly policies on medical schools and the destructive medical insurance industry have destroyed the practice of medicine. He also knows firsthand how government involvement in medicine has driven prices higher while reducing quality and availability.

As for his stands, here is his “Principles of a Free Society” from his latest book (he has written dozens – maybe some of you could actually read one or two of them instead of getting you opinions just from the talking heads:

1. Rights belong to individuals, not groups; they derive from our nature and can neither be granted nor taken away by government.

2. All peaceful, voluntary economic and social associations are permitted; consent is the basis of the social and economic order.

3. Justly acquired property is privately owned by individuals and voluntary groups, and this ownership cannot be arbitrarily voided by governments.

4. Government may not redistribute private wealth or grant special privileges to any individual or group.

5. Individuals are responsible for their own actions; government cannot and should not protect us from ourselves.

6. Government may not claim the monopoly over a people’s money and governments must never engage in official counterfeiting, even in the name of macroeconomic stability.

7. Aggressive wars, even when called preventative, and even when they pertain only to trade relations, are forbidden.

8. Jury nullification, that is, the right of jurors to judge the law as well as the facts, is a right of the people and the courtroom norm.

9. All forms of involuntary servitude are prohibited, not only slavery but also conscription, forced association, and forced welfare distribution.

10. Government must obey the law that it expects other people to obey and thereby must never use force to mold behavior, manipulate social outcomes, manage the economy, or tell other countries how to behave.

Sounds like a pretty great set of principles to me. Plenty of these the democrats claim to support in order to get votes, but cave once elected (or if the president is from their party). Republicans other than Ron Paul do pretty much the same thing.

Pay Attention: The problem is you are directing some of your comments towards people that are not part of “They”.

As for me, I’d probably agree more with you in terms of the severity, it’s potentially worse to have someone write it in your name than to sit by why someone talks at you. Therefore, I was willing to give Obama a pass regarding his pastor, but I’m not yet willing to do that with Ron Paul. That doesn’t mean that I won’t hold it against him, it is just something that I’m waiting to see how it plays out a bit more.

Considering that Ron Paul won’t be able to put in effect many of his ideals, if he were elected he would be viewed as having caved after his term. That’s the great thing about ideals, they look great in a book, but that doesn’t mean you can actually get them to work in practice.

Folks who support Ron Paul have bothered to look into these ideas and principles and have recognized that they are absolutely the only sound basis for a society based on mutual respect for rights, property, and liberty. Frankly they are little more than an elaborate extension of the golden rule.

JTesla – caving is changing your votes once elected. Ron has routinely been the only dissenting vote in favor of liberty and freedom in the house. When elected, he will veto bills he knows are wrong and will force the congress to override his veto. He won’t just go along to get along. If they do, they will be held responsible, not him.

He was one of few against the Patriot Act when it was Bush’s. Some democrats were opposed and many of them now support it since Obama supports it. That is CAVING.

Ron will bring all the troops home and can do that without congressional approval as he will be commander in chief. Plenty of other constitutionally legal things are within his pervue as well. When he needs the country’s support, he will go before them and make his case. Then it will be up to congress to suffer the wrath if they do not support him (and the people do).

I would rather have a president who stands on his principles (especially those of freedom and liberty) even if he doesn’t get everything accomplished than another president that takes our country further and further down the fascist/totalitarian slide we are on.

I love Bush – For the record, and it is clearly documented in the congressional record – Ron Paul did get mad, and did vote against all of Bush’s economically destructive policies and all the ones that undermined our freedoms, destroyed the middle east and our deficit, etc. In fact, he was routinely the only republican voting against Bush in the house. Plenty of times he voted against Reagan when he was president too. The man actually has principles. I can certainly understand why most folks would be confused about that since he is a congressman. But the millions who support him, know his consistent voting record and that’s why they support him.

Freedom, as a libertarian I’m not opposed to his ideals, I just know that time and time again ideals get trampled under the boot of practicality. I guess what it really boils down to is that one libertarian Republican is not enough to effectuate true change, even if he is elected President.

I love Bush: “You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.” The recount was conducted and declared Bush the winner, Gore is the one who tried to get the courts to overturn the Florida decision. 11 years later and this fact is still grossly misrepresented.

However, I did get mad when Bush caused the hurricane. What a nasty thing to do.

For the record, you all should be mad at Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for what they failed to do as heads of the Senate Banking Committee during the Bush years. It was not all his fault as they could have reigned in Fanny and Freddie, but did nothing. I am still amazed how those 2 get such a free pass, but if you don’t understand the system and how it really works you jump to incorrect assumptions. Unfortunately in 2012 it is still “none of the above”, but we’ll get stuck with another mistake just like the one we have now. You can’t blame Bush for even higher and higher deficits, no growth, while taking $4 million vacations during a bad economy.

Strange how the race card always turns up on these blogs. Also how everything is all the fault of those liberal folks. Sorry Kelly that you have to learn a hard way about all the hate that is out there. As long as you sing, you are doing great. Just have an opinion and the haters come at you. I love to see folks deny what they say when the facts are in print and on film. I also like all those folks talking about the race card who are not black. They seem to bring it up first and then blame those black folks for using it. I am actually still looking for one. It seems white folks are the only ones to have seen one since they keep forever talking about it. Can you post one on the net so we all can see what it actually looks like? I have asked around and no one seems to know what it looks like. I figure if you guys are always talking about it you would know what it looks like.

Why don’t hard-core liberal lefty celebrities like Clooney or Penn or Baldwin or Gaga or Bono or O’Donnell or whoever else get criticized for THEIR political affiliations, tweets, web posts and opinions? Ohhhhh, riiiiiight, because they are the “smart” ones because they support “progressives” and THEIR point of view is always correct, and it’s hip and cool and trendy and modern and anyone who has any conservative inkling whatsoever is a dinosaur….

What a crock. People hating on Clarkson just because she dares to express a belief or an opinion or a political preference?

Liberals are hysterical. They claim racism at the drop of a hat and get panicky any time a person expresses a non-progressive opinion. They use fear to prey on people and try to twist their arm into believing their take on things. And for all the tolerance they preach, it’s a bunch of B.S…. they don’t want a SOUL on the planet to have a conservative opinion about ANYTHING and they would love to shut anyone down from saying, printing, blogging, or otherwise expressing their conservative opinions. I have heard more hate, aggressive language, personal attacks, and character attacks against people of a conservative bent than I have EVER heard from the right toward the left.

Kudos to Kelly Clarkson for holding firm on her opinion and for handling the twitter hate from liberals with class and dignity. Shame on those who attacked her for HAVING AN OPINION that differed from theirs. And shame to ANYONE who is so close-minded that they won’t entertain an idea from anybody who is not a hard-core leftist Democrat.

And by the way, I think the lack of criticism of Left-leaning celebrities that is being referred to is criticism by the mainstream media. Yes, the common folk criticize plenty.

Here’s a great example of Robin Williams on the Tonight Show right after the LA Riots. Nobody gave him any grief for this clearly “racist” portrayals of the folks doing the rioting:

JTesla – While I certainly agree that ideas do get trampled under the boot of practicality, Ron’s principles never have. No matter how much opposition, Ron stands his ground and looks to find an alternative, form a coalition, or whatever to interject an alternative that is consistent with constitutional and freedom-based principles.

As an example, the congress was voting on taking money from the citizens of america (that’s the only way they get money) to spend on a “congressional medal of freedom” for Rosa Parks. Ron instead asked all of his colleages to pony up $100 each (the medals cost about $40,000 from what I understand) to pay for the medal directly without involving the US citizens/taxpayers. He put up his money and nobody else stood with him. They all voted against him (he was the lone dissenter) to steal taxpayer money to give her the medal.

He fully supported Rosa Parks and honoring her, but opposed taking the money from the citizens to do it. That’s a principled guy (who is not a racist).

Davey Crockett did the same thing in congress when a bill came foreward to help out a widow who had lost her house, husband, and children in a fire. He put up his money and was turned down by all of his fellow congressman who instead took taxpayer money to bail her out. That is the measure of a true statesman. A public example of that kind of guy in the white house would SHAME virtually every congress critter (or should).

We could use that kind of example, regardless of how much changes.
