Kelly Clarkson endorses Ron Paul, gets hit hard on Twitter

When it comes to endorsements, everyone looks to “American Idol,” right? They at least have the “vote early, vote often” concept down pat.

Kelly Clarkson tweeted her support for Libertarian-leaning Ron Paul early Thursday and set off a maelstrom. Here’s the Tweet:

I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.

Some Paul opponents began attacking her selection, noting that he had a newsletter out years ago that featured commentary against gays and various races. He has said he didn’t write them and isn’t racist or homophobic. She responded thusly:

I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite

As more people kept hitting her hard, she fought back in a very reasonable manner:

Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don’t agree with me simply unfollow me. It’s really that easy. I hope you don’t because I would love the chance to hear what you have to say but if you’re so blinded by hate you can’t seek peace and progress then that is your unfortunate prerogative.

It is really a sad commentary on America that you would have people who otherwise would like Kelly Clarkson until she says she is supporting a candidate they don’t like. I personally hate all the right vs. left crap and the endless Democrat vs Republican drivel. It is interesting, however, that a person with an “R” behind their name can never be forgiven for anything in their past and a person with a “D” can be forgiven for anything. (See Senator Robert Byrd)

Been a conservative my whole life. Just don’t like the general attitude of liberals AND conservatives these days. We are NOT enemies. We are Americans with differing viewpoints on what is best for the country. I’m not sure what happened to civility in this country but I would rather not participate in an argument based on name-calling and personal insults. If y’all want to discuss the ISSUES then I’ll look forward to that. If all you can manage to do is vilify each other, then I’m pretty bored and look forward to moving on.

Birds of a feather flock together.

There is NO way I would support someone who has the opinions that Ron Paul has. No one is playing the race card.

We are playing the morals and ethics card. Shame on anyone who would DEFEND Ron Paul.

What does that say about the people who defend him? THEY ARE RACIST TOO.

I find the criticism she received most hypocritical since those from the looney left scream tolerance when in fact they are only tolerant of those who share the same belief system which by its on definition is intolerant. This is coming from one who has party has left them and became the party of freaks, for the DemocRATS have lost the ability to stand for anything. Thus they have became the party of black, gay, pregnant Puerto Rican nuns, with AIDS !!!

Fact is, no celebrity that endorses a Democrat is EVER lambasted. Candidly, I think Paul is a nut. Moreover, I don’t like any celebrity thinking their status elevates the credibility of their opinion—particularly upon topics beyond their expertise (like film school grad Michael Moore trying to lecture us on Economics). BUT, my point is….and it’s valid…that the celebrity culture encourages and operates upon a deep-Left slanted double standard. OH…so does the education sector and journalist corps [for you Obama supports, that's pronounced "kors" not "korspss"].

For the record, blacks have had to endure racism for over 200 years.

Blacks know what it feels like to be discriminated against. Blacks know racism when they hear it, see it, smell it, taste it, hold it and experience it. Unless you have walked in black people’s shoes you need to be more intelligent with your comments.

Kelly Clarkston knows what she is doing. She is hiding behind her political ideology like most republicans.

THEY THROW ROCKS AND HIDE THEIR HANDS.

I will NEVER NEVER NEVER look at her the same ever again. I really did not like her that much before.

Am I the only one who doesn’t care about any celebrities political opinion and would just rather they skip any questions or comments regarding politics? I’m not going to stop listening to her music, not going to let her influence my vote, and generally just not care.

One point I am impressed with, is that she knows enough about Ron Paul’s libertarian views to place them in a tweet. Imagine that someone tracking the candidates and forming an opinion as to how they would vote, without letting a the knee-jerk reactionary response guide their views.

Oh and as much as I hate people “playing the race card”, because it happens ALL THE TIME… sometimes people really are racist.

Endorsing anyone publicly was a stupid move on her part. Like the Dixie Chicks, she has alienated a segment of her fan base. I have found over and over again that liberals are the most hateful, narrow minded people of all. If you don’t agree with them, they tend to go ballistic. I had my most liberal “friend” once tell me, “I hate conservatives. I wish they were all dead”. Now that is a “progressive” thought process.

Ron Paul is not a republican. My understanding of him is that he is fiscally conservative and socially moderate. He is lumped in with republicans because, right now, only a democrat or a republican will get the nod. That being said, no one is going to give you 100% of what you want in life. What we value in life differs like every snowflake that falls. We choose the one that more closely resembles our own. I agree with some of what Paul says, but at times he gets so far out that I can’t trust it. Jon Huntsman has talked about a lot of things that I agree with, but noone is even paying attention to him. All the other repubs are a sideshow! While I am not pleased with many things the current President has done, I will not let Fox tell me that he is the worse president in history. I will look at the actual facts. I heard someone give an analogy a few weeks ago that I think speaks volumes. A contractor comes to you with a blue print of this gorgeous pristine mansion. You love it! You say you want it! He then shows you the lot with a beatup rundown house sitting on it! You look at it with disgust and ask the contractor what is the deal! He tells you, in order to get to this beautiful mansion, I will have to tear all of that mess down! In other words, if you ate like a glutton for 10 years and weigh 400 lbs, you will not lose all of the weight by working out for a week!

I know several people who have doctorate degrees. They are easier to get these days. All you need is a computer and money. Ron Paul got his PhD back in the day when it was even easier to get, especially for whites .

I worked for a man who had a PhD and he could not spell or speak correctly.

After reading many posts on this topic, it only confirms that the word racist is only a buzz word used by one who does not possess the cognitive stimulus to engage in an intellectual dialogue without attempting to impugn one’s character based upon ideological differences. It is commonly used when one can not defend an indefensible position since it is an act of desperation and lack of depth that forces one to attack the messenger instead of the message. It is akin to The Big Lie Theory used by The Axis in WWII which indicated if a lie is told loud enough and long enough then obviously people will believe it since there must be some truth to it.

I also take 100% credit for any misspelled words or poor grammar. Since again one who can only attack my keyboarding skills probably can not attack my logic.

Yeah, anyone who doesn’t vote democrat is a hate-monger. Like so many other celebrities who have voiced their conservative beliefs and paid dearly, she will as well. I have to ask you whether this is the direction we really want to go. Like so many fascist beginnings, free speech is tolerated only as long as it is agreeable to the ruling party. The most evil regimes in the world were all socialist, union, government control advocates. The rest of us will just get bullied into submission eventually and have to wait until the inevitable collapse. I just can’t believe we are willingly walking this plank.

************************************************

Hold on David.

The Republicans are the most hateful, narrow minded people.

Newt Gingrich said that poor kids should be janitors.
Ron Paul hates and dispises gay people.
Some Republicans want gays to be executed.
Republicans are more concerned with a woman’s uterus than living children.
Republicans hate Obama more than they love america.
Republicans would let their supporters starve to death than to give them a tax break or extend their unemployment benefts.
Republicans wanted our soliders to stay in Iraq and now that they are home will not give them a tax break and they are trying to take away some of their benefits.
Republicans want to give the rich a tax break and let everyone else starve.
Republicans threw their own supporters under the bus.

Who is hateful and narrow minded?

Those who have never been discriminated against or have a history of relatives being beaten on the back and every other part of their bodies and denied basic rights because of the color of their skin say someone is playing “the racist card.” Those of the one’s who need to be reminded of America’s history. Would that you and your relatives were treated that way. You are the reason racism still exists in this country because you don’t think what happened in the past and still is happening is/was wrong. Of course, people who were treated that way are not going to forget. You need to live in isolation by yourself.

if Sen.Ron Paul(whom i don’t support)is a racist because of what someone else wrote in a news letter with his name attached to it,then what is President Obama who sat under a racist America hating pastor for 20 plus years.
if President Obama can claim he never heard Rev.Wright say all those awful things that is documented over a 25 year period of which President Obama was present, then we have to give Sen.Ron Paul the same benefit of doubt.don’t we?
i don’t think any race can claim more racism or hate directed at them than Jewish people.to suggest that American blacks have the market cornered on racism is a racist comment in and of it’s self.
all races of people have been at one time hated, enslaved and taken from the home against their will and exploited by another culture and it’s ironic the practice started in Egypt the first world power which is located on the continent of Africa.
