Kelly Clarkson endorses Ron Paul, gets hit hard on Twitter

When it comes to endorsements, everyone looks to “American Idol,” right? They at least have the “vote early, vote often” concept down pat.

Kelly Clarkson tweeted her support for Libertarian-leaning Ron Paul early Thursday and set off a maelstrom. Here’s the Tweet:

I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.

Some Paul opponents began attacking her selection, noting that he had a newsletter out years ago that featured commentary against gays and various races. He has said he didn’t write them and isn’t racist or homophobic. She responded thusly:

I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite

As more people kept hitting her hard, she fought back in a very reasonable manner:

Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don’t agree with me simply unfollow me. It’s really that easy. I hope you don’t because I would love the chance to hear what you have to say but if you’re so blinded by hate you can’t seek peace and progress then that is your unfortunate prerogative.

Morning!

It’s a shame that we live in a time where one’s political views open the door to dangerous and outrageous behavior.

Here’s one thing I know for sure: whatever place someone resides on the political spectrum, they are there because they believe it’s what is best for the country. One side is not all right or all wrong.

Ron Paul has something that speaks to young people, which is admirable, considering his age. He’s not “my guy”, but hooray for kelly who dares take a stand thios early. Most idols in music, movies and on TV follow a politician only when s/he’s well on his/her way.

@Deirdre: common sense and logic, such as that in your post, has no place in a discussion about politics. ;-)

I think this article headline should be clarkson only music entertainer who supports a republican. liberals seek to ban her from making any more music. that would be more accurate than anything in this story.

Who gives a rat’s arse about Ron Paul or Kelly Clarkson? Hope they can sit down and discuss topical issues at a KKK rally sometime soon.

Since she’s supporting a Republican (even if he is a homophobic racist fossil), I suspect she will be lauded as a patriot. I doubt seriously she will get Dixie-Chicked.

Its obvious that CLakrson is ignorant about Paul. Anyone that believs his “I didn’t know” excuse is stupid. You don’t let stuff like what went out on the newsletter go unless you know, and approve, of it. He’s a lying homophobic racist.

Kudos for Kelly to have the courage, as an entertainment professional, to stand for the conservative ideas of individual liberty and less government! Liberals do not want to hear such support, especially from a Hollywood insider. Liberals seek to divide and destroy anyone who deviates from their socialist agenda.

Look at all this name-calling. No wonder the country is in a mess. No one likes anyone and no one cares that they don’t. As a matter of fact, it looks like most of the writers here thrive on disliking one another. That’s why the country can’t accomplish anything constructive. You all special and have to have it your own special way.

No, @AlaskaDawg, not all do, just that most of your leaders do or have been shown to be actively financed by groups that do. The ones that don’t are promptly labeled RINOs by your teabagging majority.

Slightly surprised considering she eats at the Y. I heard him in an interview saying that Feds should have no involvement in cleaning up after Emergencies (he was asked about it after a tornado had pummeled the Midwest) and that’s just a tad to out there for me. States are obviously the first responders, but they can’t handle major Natl emergencies on their own.

Typical “progressive” liberals: “If you’re not with us, you’re against us……and we’ll ruin your career”. Hey Libs, look up the word “hypocrite”.

If I have to endure one more Democrat in my presence who, in the same breath, calls Republicans hateful, then goes on to bash others for having conservative values, I’m going to punch them in the head. It’s time we ALL stand up to idiocy, whatever form it takes.

Great job Kelly. One need only look at Ron’s voting record, his personal writings, his positions on such racist policies as the failed war on drugs, endless military engagements, tax policy, corporate welfare, the inflationary federal reserve, and others to realize that his proposals and stands would do far more for people of color than every bill ever enacted by democrats or republicans alike.

Even his stands on gay marriage are far more in line with supporting the freedom of individuals than you will ever see from the democrats. He has been married for 55 years to the same woman, but firmly believes that marriage should be up to the church and that government should have absolutely no role in it. Gays may want some special privaledge like the democrats have been handing out like candy to their friends over the decades, but unlike these other special protections that have set up racial and religious divisions in our society that still plague us today, getting the government out of the picture and leaving decisions up to private property owners, private groups, etc. and having government simply protect EVERYONE’s rights as they were supposed to, would ensure far more harmony than we have from current laws and “protections.”

I don’t even like Kelly’s music, but I bought one of her albums in support of her courage.

Hopefully more people will have the courage to actually read Ron Paul’s writings and view all of his YouTube videos and check out his 30 year consistent voting record before they just blindly believe the liars in the media who serve the government apparatus that has enslaved us all with debt and corporate bailouts. Everyone should wonder why the media and the establishment is so afraid of Ron Paul while so many millions support him.

The newsletters? They;re generally dismissed for years by Libs as the work of plants in the newsletter operation which the Libertarian-interested Paul didn’t run in the first place, and may not even have been sent out from that office. The people bringing them up to the gullible media post as “libertarian rightists” and think Paul is a leftist too soft on race! (So they accuse him of being the opposite of what he is).

Check out the mother Libertarian group at http://www.LibertarianInternational.org the non-partisan Libertarian International Organization to see how libertarians have been leading on these issues.

no sad at all – the current political landscape forces every candidate who wishes to participate in any effective way to be part of one of the two major parties. I myself find the republican party disgusting. There are two shining stars and they are Ron and his son Rand. Ron has never been a GOP guy. He ran in 1988 as a Libertarian and discovered quickly that the republicans and democrats have done everything possible to make 3rd parties non-functional in this country. His views are his, and some are GOP and some are what the democrats used to believe in – you remember, no war, personal liberty, no spying on everyone’s emails, habeus corpus, etc.

Siding blindly with the current crop of democrats is horrible. They stopped speaking out against the wars, Gitmo, etc. once Obama was elected. Meanwhile Ron was the lone voice speaking out against Bush during his administration.

Do some research before you just bash ideas. The media is lying to you.

I’m not a Paul supporter, but at least Clarkson is an entertainer who is wise enough to be for someone other than POTUS Obama. Hopefully she will openly support the eventual Republican nominee. If Paul wins Iowa it will really mean nothing. Let’s not forget that Pat Buchanon once won Iowa.

I have no problem with Kelly supporting someone for President. My God Alec Baldwin, Michael Moore and other celebrities have no problem spreading their liberal views and trashing Republicans which for the record is their right.

While I’m a Republican and will support whoever the Presidental candidate is Ron Paul would not be my first choice. He’s about as flakey as a Paula Deen biscuit but I’d take him over Obama anyday.

I don’t really care for Ron Paul, mainly for his foreign policy issues. However, I respect Kelly Clarkson for openly supporting him and to hell with the negative and hateful comments directed towards her. IN CASE WE’VE FORGOTTEN, WE STILL HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN THE USofA. If it were left up to some people, both Democraps and Republicants alike, it would be wrong to have opposing viewpoints. WE are not machines, MOST of us have the ability to thimk and reason!!!

I think she has a right to like who she wants. All of you folks that are giving her hell, think about this, She is at least got a mind of her own and we have the right to vote for whoever we want . Blacks are always playing the race card and it is really getting old since most blacks are racists. If you dont vote OBAMA you are a racist. Well last time I checked he is half white. Obama is just not a good president and never will be and it is not because he is half black. So all you people claiming racisim need to shut the hell up.
