‘Jeopardy’ moves back to 11 Alive at 7:30 p.m. starting Jan. 2, 2012

11 Alive at 7:30 p.m.

Where is “Jeopardy” airing starting January 2 in Atlanta?

For the past five years or so, the popular game show has been on sister station WATL-TV (My Atl) at 7:30 p.m. right after “Wheel of Fortune.”

But management at Gannett, which owns both stations, has decided to move “Jeopardy” back to the more prominent WXIA-TV station while keeping “Wheel of Fortune” in its place at WATL.

“Jeopardy” saw a major drop-off in ratings in Atlanta in November 2011 vs. November 2010, falling nearly 30 percent. It had a 3.8 rating, by far the best on WATL-TV but down from 5.4 a year earlier.

Entertainment show “Extra” moves to 6:30 p.m. on WATL from the 7:30 p.m. slot at 11 Alive and “Everybody Loves Raymond” takes over the 7:30 p.m. slot at WATL.

General manager John Deushane explains in an email:

Extra goes to 6:30 on WATL where it will be the only show of that genre in the time period. It was getting killed against ET, TMZ and Inside Edition, all of which aired at 7:30. Think Jeopardy was last on WXIA about 5 yrs ago…will have to check on that but do know it delivered about 40% more viewership at that time. Think it’s a good companion piece with the Daily 11 @ 7 with Brenda Wood. On WATL, Raymond skews older than Jeopardy so that should do well coming out of Wheel. BTW, we renewed Anderson Cooper and picked up the new Jeff Probst Show which will replace Rachael Ray at 2P on WXIA next fall.

Best show on TV. Of course that’s not really saying much these days.

I beleive it is Gannett not Gwinett that owns both stations.

My friend Dave Leach won on Jeopardy last night, unseating a 9-day champion!! Awesome! (Rodney–thanks for the heads up about this post from the other thread). You should interview Dave! He’d be a fun subject.

I think that Weird Al’s I lost on Jeopardy is fitting here:

Oh-oh-oh-oh

I was there to match my intellect on national TV
Against a plumber, oh, and an architect, both with a PhD
I was tense, I was nervous, I guess it just wasn’t my night
Art Fleming gave the answers
Oh, but I couldn’t get the questions right, -ight, -ight

I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)
I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)

Well, I knew I was in trouble now
My hope of winning sank
Oh, ’cause I got the Daily Double now
And then my mind went blank
I took Potpourri for one hundred
And then my head started to spin
Well, I’m givin’ up Don Pardo
Just tell me now what I didn’t win, yeah, yeah

I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)
I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)

That’s right, Al–You lost. And let me tell you what you didn’t win: a twenty volume set of the Encyclopedia International, a case of Turtle Wax, and a year’s supply of Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. But that’s not all. You also made yourself look like a jerk in front of millions of people. You brought shame and disgrace to your family name for generations to come. You don’t get to come back tomorrow. You don’t even get a lousy copy of our home game. You’re a complete loser!

Don’t know what I was thinkin’ of
I guess I just wasn’t too bright
Well, I sure hope I do better
Next weekend on The Price Is Right, -ight, -ight

I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)
I lost on Jeopardy, baby (oooh)
I lost on Jeopardy, baby

True, true. Such is the way of Weird Al.

A station decides to make a programming change and Weird Al is invoked? What if they had decided on “Wheel of Fortune” instead?

Well Kirk, there is always Dr. Dave’s “Vanna, Pick me a letter.”

Get me a ticket for an aeroplane
Got to get on the Wheel of Fortune game
I just got to win
Spin the wheel again
Oh, Vanna, pick me a letter

You know what would be funny is a special Celebrity Jeopardy featuring the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Oh my gosh how hilarious that would be…

Jeopardy! is far superior over those trashy lowest-common-denominator celebrity magazine shows any day of the week. Especially TMZ.

A celebrity Jeopardy with the Real Housewives? Really? Disaster in the making. They’d all wind up with negative scores.

I see that Jeff Probst is getting a new daytime show. I hope Rachael Ray isn’t being canceled… I could see her show staying in syndication, on a different station… or being moved to OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network)… I remember Martha Stewart’s show was moved to Hallmark Channel in 2010.

I would be interested in seeing ‘Wheel of Fortune’ back on 11Alive at 7PM… 11 bringing back its 5PM news… ‘Dr. Phil’ being moved to 11AM… ‘Atlanta & Company’ being shortened to half-hour, and airing at 12:30PM, after Noon news. Jusy my thoughts.

@Eric – Rachael isn’t canceled. If it’s not moving to a new time on WXIA, I’m sure it’ll be picked up by another station.

Thanks 11alive for burying that EXTRA show and putting Jeopardy back on for people with functional brains.

@Nana – I would be interested in seeing NBC picking up ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’, and would be willing to settle with the former ABC soaps being cut back to half-hour in length… as well as NBC cutting ‘Today’ back to 2 hours… and the ‘Later Today’ talk show being revived. It’s a thought.
