So season one of “X Factor” is over and we will never have to watch robo-host again!

Early favorite Melanie Amaro upped the Mariah quotient to the very end and won the $5 million. (Oh, and that pesky Pepsi commercial!)

She kneeled in prayer and was attacked by her friends and family as robo-host tried to get her to say something. He failed miserably.

“She will represent this country. She is a star,” Simon said instead.

After she sang “Listen,” robo-host finally got her to croak out a few words. “God is good!” she said. “This is something I wanted all my life!”

Amaro beat out Josh Krajcik, the wonderfully sweet rocker who growled his way to runner-up status. Third place was Chris Rene, the rap singer who recently got out of rehab.

The votes matched the polls, including the one here, which had Amaro winning, Josh second, Chris third.

“We’ll be back next year,” Robo-host said. Well, the show will be back.

Ratings for Wednesday’s night show were underwhelming, considering it’s the final week. The show drew 11.1 million viewers, below the season average and the 3.3 18-49 rating was worse than last week’s 3.4. I expect the final won’t do too much better.

Clearly, this show didn’t quite have the “X Factor.” It needs to look itself in the mirror and fix things for season two.

“The X Factor” tried to outdo “Idol” by attempting to be hipper and sleeker with “bigger” stakes. Instead, I personally found the show frenetic, annoying and soul-less. It made me truly appreciate the charms of “American Idol” and “The Voice.” And we’ve learned that Simon Cowell isn’t all that when placed in charge, especially in terms of picking hosts and judges.

And somehow, Paula Abdul rose above the crud around her and came out as the relative voice of reason. You know this is Alice in Wonderland when I write something like that.

Now will Melanie Amaro create hit records and sell out arenas? I’m not so sure. But you know Simon is going to work his darndest to try to make it happen.

We also learned tonight that if Rachel Crow doesn’t get a Disney sitcom, she could host “The X Factor” next year!

Seth, thanks for the running commentary. It helps since I can’t watch at the moment.

The kid in the Idol commercial must be the one who beat Scotty McCreery in the talent show that Rodney was talking about.

Steven Tyler just made a comment to an auditioner on the AI commercial spot. Surprisingly, he said “that’s beautiful”.

All the judges are chameleons, changing every other sip of their drink.

This is a good song for Josh. The inflections of the voice for the songs he sings is what has kept him here. He’s showcased himself from day one and that’s 83% of the XFactor.

Crowd really into Josh’s powerful version of his Christmas song. Paula says she loves him.

Simon sez he has been a brilliant contestant.

Well Pitchy nothing is at stake anymore. I do wish the judges would have acted this way all season.

Jubie, I don’t want Melanie to win either. Josh is getting off that burritto line!!!!

Wait, Simon just said “Josh, you’re going to sell a lot of records, I just feel it.” If you guys have listened to him over the years when he makes a statement like that, the person has been voted off.

Who thinks the judges already know the %tage of votes toward all 3 contestants?

I liked both Mel and Josh. Mel was better, but Josh sang my favorite song. To me a tie, only because of song choices.

Yes, the judges know. So when Simon was on ET saying Mel is the winner I think he meant it. He was paid by ET for the info,.. IMO

If Melanie wins, the whole show has a scripted storyline, from Simon’s dissing her, then going to Florida with his changed mind, etc.

Okay, so I’m way behind. Melanie’s opening “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a little dull to my ears, but I’m not a fan of giant power ballads. And that dress does not do her favors when she is seated. :( Stellar vocal, though. On pitch throughout. LA was right (that beautiful voice you have is the best gift a song can ever get).

After her performance–I expected that her family didn’t have the accent based on previous comments, but it’s strong–especially in her brothers, her grandmother (whom she apparently spent a lot of time with), etc. And I was ready to shoot Jones on my TV if he was his usual self, but fortunately, he handled her tears with something approaching gracious professionalism. Huh.
