Elle Duncan being off V-103

Two sources affiliated with V-103 have told me that Elle Duncan’s contract was not renewed and as of last week, she is no longer employed at the R&B/hip-hop station.

She has been wiped off the V-103 website. And on her personal Facebook page, she has placed her employment at the station in the past tense.

I am awaiting word on whether she will be replaced or not as a sidekick to Ryan Cameron, who is now on vacation.

Duncan’s history at the station has been a bit checkered.

She started at age 20 with the 2 Live Stews, then joined Cameron in 2004 as a sidekick. In early 2009, she took over for Porsche Foxx as mid-day jock. Eighteen months later, she grabbed Miss Sophia’s slot in mornings and became a sports/entertainment person with Frank & Wanda.

That arrangement lasted only about nine months. She was moved back to Cameron’s show in late March of 2011, spelling Rashan Ali.

(Foxx, Miss Sophia and Ali are no longer in radio to my knowledge.)

The craziest moment for Duncan happened when she got into a row with then afternoon producer Nina Brown over some sweet potato pie. Brown left the live button on and listeners heard Duncan cursing at her. Duncan was suspended but returned on air. Brown left V-103 and ended up working at 11 Alive.

Duncan is also a sideline reporter for the Hawks.

I left messages with Duncan via text and Facebook seeking comment. I’ll update this if I get anything. I also emailed her boss Rick Caffey for any comment though in these situations, he typically does not.

Cameron’s contract is up early next year, but he is a well established name in the community, arguably one of the most popular radio personalities in Atlanta. Given the stagnancy of radio market revenues, even at a station as big as V-103, how his stature (and high ratings) will impact negotiations is a big question.

For now, Crash Clark, who worked with Cameron in the 1990s, has taken a greater role on Cameron’s show as both traffic guy and a sidekick.

Cameron Monday morning posted this quote on his public Facebook page:

We often judge people without knowing theirs stories. Take a breath today and be joyful and not judgmental.

Agree with Derrick. Hire local TALENT (there are people from the south who can actually speak proper English, believe it or not), and make the station a home-grown station once again. No more ghetto birds from B-more!

@ohiogirl73,

If you are looking for a jazz station, may I recommend 91.9 WCLK the Jazz of the City. It is a locate public radio station that plays a variety of jazz, progressive soul and blues on any given day. The radio personalities are positive and never talk down to the listeners and they support local, international and underground artists that you will never hear on V-103 or any other station here in Altanta because it is commercial free.

Also, there is a lot of quality music out there made by the following artist that mainstream Atlanta radio stations refuse to support:

Eric Roberson
Phonte(Charity Starts at Home is one of the best hip hop albums you’re missing out on)
Foreign Exchange
Maysa
Dwele
Anthony Hamilton(to a certain extent)
Anthony David
Common
Bilal
Elle Verner
Jesse Boykins
Julie Dexter
Sy Smith, etc.

If any of the on radio personalities had off the chain talent, they could use their talent on a platform that crossed over.
When you play to a format that appeals basically to one culture, you are weak.
Who are the advertisers on V-103 ? Night clubs , soul food restaurants, rim shops, hair braiding salons ?
I must say though,Elle is pretty hot, gotta lot of white blood in her.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why everyone EXCEPT Wanda is being fired/replaced? I’ve been an Atl resident since 2007. I would listen to the Frank Ski show every morning just to hear Miss Sophia’s commentary. In my opinion, Frank is pompous and does not entertain me. However, I did appreciate his “Inspirational Vitamin” segment. Wanda is loud and obnoxious. I find that she rarely has anything intelligent to add to the morning topics. She should go.

First off it’s sad to hear about anyone losing their job with that being said I will not miss Elle. She got on my nerves with all that whining. She tried too hard to fit in. One day she wanted to act like she was hard from the streets. The next she wanted to remind everyone of her nice, cushy, middle class upbringing. Maybe she should look into going to a pop station or a sports station.

Is V-103 merely an outlet for promoting male strippers? I’ve never heard a station whose sole focus is on this category. Wanda’s Playhouse is promoted week in and week out all year long! Does the audience consists of that many professional, “thirsty women” ? And Wanda herself is supposed to be married? And men going to strips clubs used to be taboo in normal households and within the community (because it involved throwing away large chunks of hard-earned income that could be used to pay bills). Now we have regular encouragement of our women to do the same thing? Wow, who would have thought? Well I guess this is what we were after – Women wearing pants, all tatted up, smoking cigars (Black and Milds), throwing down liquor, and blowing their money by stuffing in the crotch of naked men? So Sad on sooo many levels!!!!

Sorry, Elle. Wasn’t a fan, but in this economy being “let go” is NEVER a good thing. As for the others blogging on Frank and Wanda, I FULLY AGREE!! Frank Ski, other than his work with the Atlanta youth, is a DJ knock off. Ever since he came to Atlanta and trashed Griff, I’ve viewed his morning show suspect. All he does is name drop, who texted him (as if nothing in the industry can go down without his pretentious approval…fa’ real?). Wanda who is a washed up comedienne and latched onto Frank so they could become one of THE MOST tired morning programs on the planet. I remember the “syndicated” show attempt (Baltimore and Atlanta – technically was syndication). I wonder what the ratings in Baltimore was (-something), because that disaster was shorter than Magic Johnson’s talk show. And yet, V-103 keeps shoving that garbage down the ATL’s throat. Ryan was good back in the day on Hot 97, since then a little self absorbed.

C’mon ATL urban radio, I ride and hear more IPOD/SAT radio than what is on in Atlanta. You let Elle go, Porshe, heck you even tried to let Youngblood go. Be smart, let Frank and Wanda go and get some talent!

Jus sayin’…..

I must say that I’m going to miss Elle. I thought she added a spark to Ryan’s show and often kept him on center. Ryan used to come off as a very humble guy, as of late he seems to have that Frank Ski syndrome of being a braggart. I’m proud of any man’s success and wether it’s a promotion, education or whatever material possession he obtains. Bragging is never a good look on anyone. It never seems to fail even if I decide to check in on the show’s it’s always I bought this, bought Tonya that or Lil Franklin something LOL! Even the shouts out to Biship Long were BS. It was even funny how they would say negative things about certain artists and when they come in to visit them their tune changed. As for Kenny Burns… dude seems to be trippin all over himself to where he’s almost too funny! Greg Street is just Greg man… he’s just a take it or leave dude and that’s ok. Like I said i’m no hater but I think V103 needs something that’s a lil bit stronger and less self sevring than a Frank Ski.

I really feel bad for anyone losing their job right before the Holidays. Not only is it tasteless and insensitive but it’s cruel. I guess I will not be listening to V-103 for a while because of their lack of humility. If people are happy about this then we know what kind of heart you have or lack thereof.

To Elle: Keep your head up and fly high. The greatest recourse against ill wishers is GREAT living. When they see you again make sure you are doing much better than before! Stay Strong.

As a NPR listener, I have no idea why this is relavent or newsworthy. Apparently whenever something involving V103, post after post rant about how bad the current morning show is, and Q100 is mentioned, the hate posts about Wendy always pop up. I think we–the public—should decide what’s important—rather than reporters like Rodney Ho, that makes us think about trivial, inconsequential things like this. I also find it peculiar that the decision by CBS46 to cancel their noon news didn’t cause this much discussion which certainly is indicative what people are really concerned about.

I know this is suppose to be about Elle but I cannot get past the morning show. I have to say that Frank and Wanda are hideous at best. I grew up in Atlanta and remember the WIGO and WAOK days. I stopped listening to V-103 a long time ago when Frank came to Atlanta. From all accounts, his ego is outrageously huge. I think that Wanda’s radio talent speaks for itself. There is not enough time or space here to speak on it. Tom Joyner, Ricky Smiley and Steve Harvey blows V-103 out of the water. V-103 just has loyal listeners and marketing appeal for advertisements (name recognition from long tenure) but no talent. Greg Street is talented. Ryan Cameron is cool. I enjoyed him better doing Mickey Mouse skits at the”other” station. I’m serious. He used to crack me up. Best wishes to Elle.

First off, CBS Radio/V-103 was wrong for not renewing her contract. Elle Duncan is very talented and has a great sense of humor. What happen between her and Nina Brown was unprofessional and Nina shouldn’t have put Elle out publicly like that and then she gone leave going to 11Alive news.

I can’t stand to listen to Frank Ski’s voice! It is so irritating to me and then to hear him do the Inspirational Vitamin in the morning…PLEASE!!!! He really has nerve. He is boastful and that is so not what God intends from a person. Besides he needs to sit his butt down and let a younger person do all he does. His age does not match his music. As far as Wanda goes, how she EVER got on radio is truly beyond my comprehension. GHETTO FABULOUS is her middle name! Now Ryan Cameron…that man is truly wonderful! Everything about him is a Godsend. I say give him total control of V103….He can handle it with no problem whatsoever. Elle will be missed. I loved listening to her and Ryan….oh well…guess I will continue to listen to Elvis Duran and Carolina in the morning and stick to Ryan in the afternoons.

I ONLY turn my radio on at work AFTER 2pm. This is a sad day in radio as far as I’m concerned. Wanda must go. The way she mispronounces words…oh don’t get me started. I’ve said enough.

One thing we all have to remember is that The Radio personality is a direct representation of the station format itself(the music). Look at Steve Harvey, Michael Baisden…you would never find them on contract with a station like V103 because the music does not portray whoM they are nor their beliefs. The urban, hip-hoppy, sexual obsessed, lyrics and messages in the music that is played on V103 is a direct image of who they (Frank and Wanda) truly are. Listen to the personalities on 98.5, Q100, 94.9, 101.5, The voice portrays the image of the music played on that station. The voice of 98.5 is so smooth and relaxing and their playlist reflects that. So WACKO SOCKO FLACO, T.I., Gucci Lucci,Frank and Wanda all share the same mentality. Frank has a little formal training(finishing school) and is able to hide his a little better. It is funny that they have these “stop the music forums” about teen, black on black violence and go right into 36 Mafia “Tear The Club Up”….LOL..wow!!!

Bottom line is you get what you pay for. As long as Frank and Wanda can tickets to the civic center to an all male review and pack Bella and pack the Weave Shopps, they will continue to be on V103.

It is a great surprise that Elle has been removed from the air. She is a home grown lady and was very articulate. I believe she will land on her feet possibly as a sports reporter. I am a white 61 year old listener and enjoy the morning and afternoon drive shows. The people at the station just don’t get it; many of your listeners are sufferring and that is not being fully addressed. Tlaking about all the nice things you are doing for yourself leave most people out of the equation. Have a little symphothy for the average joe and do more to help. One day you may be in our shoes!
