The Regular Guys’ Larry Wachs, buffed and single, landed a one-day gig Wednesday as an extra on the Vince Vaughn/Ben Stiller/Jonah Hill comedy “Neighborhood Watch,” which is being shot around Atlanta.
The twist: Wachs will be nude, save for a special cover-up for his genitals. He will be part of a comical orgy scene. There was spanking and two women involved. Of course it’s too early to know how much of Wachs we’ll actually see in the film, if at all. But he said he was paid more than triple the dailyrate of a typical extra: $250 compared to $75. And he also got several hours of overtime since he worked from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, plus breaks.
Wachs, hoarse and tired when I spoke with him this afternoon, couldn’t say which main actors were on the set at Screen Gems studios next to Lakewood Amphitheatre, but Hill in an interview with the Regular Guys earlier this week said Stiller would be involved.
“It was kind of a nude camp,” he said. “We developed cliques and friendships. It was nice people, a lot of local actors who do extra work all the time. Some were listeners. Some were not.”
Since he became single, Wachs (in his late 40s) said he has worked out like a demon and is in much better shape than he has ever been. That’s why he was cast for the role. He said everyone in the room was in good shape except for one chubby nude actress who was there for obvious comic relief.
He was impressed with craft services. “The food was great,’ he said. “I had plenty of proteins and quality carbs. I nibbled out of boredom. There’s a lot of sitting around as an extra.”
At first, he said it was amusing to all be nude. But by the evening, when the studio temperatures had dropped, many of them were watching the clock, hoping for it to end soon.
“I’d like to get more speaking parts,” Wachs said, now that this has whet his appetite to the Hollywood life.
The film is scheduled to come out next summer.
“It’s not anything I want to see,” said “Southside” Steve Rickman, another Regular Guy. He said Wachs seems to have a fascination with dropping trou. Wachs had no problem doing so in the studio while the two casting directors were there. “He’s not shy. He didn’t care who was walking by the door. It’s beyond me to do that. Wow.”
