VH1’s Atlanta-based hit dramedy “Single Ladies” has hired “All My Children” alumnus Denise Vasi as a replacement for Stacey Dash, who abruptly left the show in August after just one season.
Dash said at the time she was leaving voluntarily.
“I have to be back in L.A. with my children right now and the ‘Single Ladies’ shooting location [in Atlanta] makes this impossible,” Dash said in a statement exclusively to GlobalGrind in late fall. “I wish VH1 the best of luck with the show in maintaining the strong fan base we developed in Season 1.” (Some fans didn’t buy this argument and there were unconfirmed rumors of friction between her and the producers that caused her departure. This was Dash’s biggest gig in years and she was the best known actress on the show.)
Vasi played Randi Hubbard on “All My Children” until the show ended this fall on ABC. Her other TV credits include HBO’s “How To Make It In America” and USA’s “White Collar.” She is also a model.
VH1 is not making her available for interviews at the moment.
According to VH1, the show will return to Atlanta to shoot season two in January and will air in the early summer. Vasi is cast as Raquel, a close friend of Keisha (LisaRaye McCoy). Raquel is a savvy business woman from a prominent Southern family on a quest to discover passion, according to the press release.
How they will address Dash’s character Val’s departure is unknown at this stage since it was not addressed in the show last season. And much of season one revolved around Val’s dress shop, based fictionally in the Terminus building in Buckhead. Will they kill Val off? Will she have suddenly moved away after meeting the man of her dreams in Los Angeles or New York?
Based on feedback on this blog, the impressively youthful looking 45-year-old Dash (still best known for her 1995 turn in “Clueless”) had many fans, though it was more about her looks than her acting.

I love this show… I don’t know how the 2nd season will be but it should be good. I enjoyed all of the cast members of the show except I think the white girl from the Game would have did a better job than the one they have on Single Ladies. Other than that I was addicted to the show the entire season… I will watch to see if the 2nd season is better.

Vasi is attractive but can she play the comedic role as Stacey Dash did.Leave an opening for Dash’s return, she has a loyal following. Without Dash the show is sure to demise, I don’t think that Lisa Raye has the fan base to pull off the show being successful.

Denise is 28yrs which mean Lisa Raye will automatically NOT like her. I know Lisa will be worried about how she look next to a 20something. I hope Denise can get along with Lisa cause Lisa has a nasty habit of getting female coworkers fired from every cast she has been apart of even though Lisa is a horrible actress. Lisa Raye do have very powerful friends.

Am a youthful 50+ and I loved, loved, loved this show from the moment I stumbled across an episode. I called all of my friends and encouraged them to watch, because “we” have all “been there and done that” as in many of the episodes. I loved Stacy Dash’s character. I am strictly dickly so it wasn’t about Stacy Dash’s looks for me but about how she carried off her character. Please keep up the good work. BTW . . . Lisa Raye has seemingly lived a life similar to much of what happens on this show so she is a natural. I look forward to this season.

I was a HUGE fan of Stacey Dash, her beauty, auro, and especially sense of style is what drove the show. Her character was very classy and relatable…she is definelty going to be hard to replace. I will continue to watch the show because I enjoyed the concept and how all the characters blended well together. I will say Mrs. VASI will definetly have to bring her A game. Good Luck!

This show is garbage with or without Stacey Dash. At least she was pretty to look at, while she was on. The writing and acting are awful (not to mention the sorry wigs everybody wears!). Maybe now the show will end up where it belongs-on the cutting room floor. I predict there will be no season 3.

Loved Denise Vasi on All My Children and she’s gorgeous! She’s a good actress & did a lot with a little bit to work with when she was on AMC. I’ve always liked Stacey Dash from way before Single Ladies & I wish her luck, but can’t wait to see what Denise does with her new role, I was going to drop this show but will give it a shot with Vasi, congrats on your new gig Denise!

Honestly, we never cared for Val (Stacey Dash) her acting was substandard compared to others on the show… it always sounded like she was screaming her lines.
With the downturn in the economy and being located in “high rent” Terminus building…I’m sure the VH1 writers with think of something catchy, sassy and dramatic to tell Val’s story line departure!!!! Who knows maybe she’s on the bus with that lady from the Marshall’s t.v. commercials.
- Just a thought.
Anyways, on a serious note, we think they should’ve hired on Evelyn from Basketball Wives Miami – now that’s some serious DRAMA.
Well we’re off to the New York ballet…. toodles!!

Will miss Ms. Dash. She was ASStounding (pun intended). Never heard of Ms. Vasi, but I imagine being on AMC, her acting must be better. Love Lisa Raye (like her sassiness), but I wouldn’t mind having an even more voluptuous cast member like Tocarro or even Kim Whitney, who is both pretty and very funny. I guess we will see. I guess the brass at VH1 didn’t see my earlier vote for someone like Nia Long, the british actress from Undercovers or even MI4’s Paula Patton. She was great in “Jumping the Broom” and Mrs. Thicke (Robin Thicke’s wife) is definitely easy on the eyes. Didn’t know much about the white female cast member, “Pretty in Pink” mentioned. When I googled her, she had brown hair. I actually like her hair better like that than as a blonde. Hope the chemistry works.

I dont know who this new chick is, but you gotta admit, Stacey wore the hell out of her outfits. Gave me a reason to get out and start prancing my 47 year old self 5 miles around that big ole rock off Hwy 78. Not a good career move, for VH1 or Stacey. Queen Latifah should know betta….after all…this is her show (little known fact).

How much do writers earn? Because the ones on HBO, FX, and AMC shows write circles around the fools on this one. The producers obviously went to the Tyler Perry school of just casting beautiful people and the shallow people will follow. Perry at least has some writers.

If you watched this show for anything but “eye candy” you are slow. Ms. Vasi is very easy on the eyes and I will be watching. At least the first three episodes. Never was into Lisa. To freaking loud.

The only reason I watched the show was Stacey Dash. She’s got an aura like Elizabeth Taylor. You just can’t stop looking at her. That smoky voice and her whole aura. She’s one in a million. Vasi is a real beauty and a fine actress but she’s no Stacey Dash and Lisa Raye is going get insanely jealous of her anyway. I wonder if Lisa Raye has taken any acting lessons? She was so horrific it was comedic.

I’m quite sad to see Dash leave the show after only one season. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing on “Single Ladies” and I don’t know if changing actresses will improve the overall temperament of the show. Glad to see black actors/writers/producers working, yet we need quality not quantity. Good luck to Ms. Vasi on this 2nd season…

How stupid is VH1? You NEVER fire the lead– if anything you fire the supporting actress. I thought Stacy was great for the role and I have no doubt that Single Ladies will be a stepping stone and will lead to a few movie roles for her in the future. Choosing Lisa over Stacy???? She’s the only one on the show who I always kept trying to replace in my head as I was watching because she’s just wrong and unnatural for that particular role. Vivica A Fox? Anyone from Girlfriends? Wrong move VH1…. definitely won’t be watching…

I love the show but not enough to watch it without Stacey in the cast. I agree that the acting is poor. However, It is nice to see a cast of intelligent and beautiful black women doing their thing. I’m not a Lisa fan. She has her sexy swag but she is no match for Stacey’s beauty and allure. I wish everyone well but I will not watch the show. Hail to the Queen.

I love the show and will be watching without stacey dash. One person does not define a show. I love stacey as an actress but, she chose to leave, so be it. lisa ray, chairity shea, and the guy who plays darrell, can Not act; please give them acting lesson from here on out. You need Kelita Smith from bernie mac show or#1 keesha sharp from girlfriends to play lisa ray role and Britaany daniels from the game to play charity shea role.

The show will NOT be the same without Val!! I don’t know what happened, but the issue needs to be reconciled. Both for Stacey and the show. Everyone knows that she, along with ingenious styling by Anthony Williams were the true causes of the show’s success. I assure you: the same fans of “Clueless” are the very same people who loved the show. Stacey has die-hard fans, myself included. The show WILL NOT be the same without her. I will not be watching. This is not the first time that LisaRaye has ran another female actress off the set. She needs to learn that it is okay to be a “supporting” actress. She does NOT have to have the lead!! I’ve seen from her reality show that it has to be all about her.
Aaaaand, they ended the show with the biggest cliffhanger ever, and won’t bring her back?? I want to see Val and Jerry work it out!! “I’m so past pissed, I can barely see straight!” No, seriously. I am. I bought season 1 on iTunes…I’ll just watch that and charge it to the game…

I don’t understand how Lisa Raye get acting jobs. SHE CAN’T ACT! There is no range, sounds the same in various situations. If anyone sound like they are reading, it’s her!
