Joy Behar leaving HLN after just over two years
Joy Behar is leaving Atlanta-based HLN at the end of this year, according to Deadline.com. (An HLN spokeswoman confirmed this news to me via email at 10:39 a.m.)
Mediabistro is characterizing the end as a “cancellation.” HLN would prefer to be kinder and call it a “non-renewal.”
Behar, better known for her spot on ABC’s “The View,” released a bland statement this morning: “I am very proud of the show that we created at HLN and I owe tremendous thanks to the show team who made it possible.”
HLN did not say why they did not renew Behar’s contract, but ratings were nothing to get excited about.
The show, which airs at 10 p.m. and airs from New York City, regularly draws fewer viewers than HLN’s top-rated evening program hosted by Nancy Grace. On Tuesday, it brought in 391,000 viewers, fourth place among news cable channels compared to 367,000 for Dr. Drew at 9 p.m. and 711,000 for Grace at 8 p.m.
The 10 p.m. slot will be filled starting in January, likely (though not definitively) with Grace repeats. Behar will air new episodes until mid-December, followed by repeats.
This past week, her guests have been Melania Trump, Donald’s wife; Diane Keaton, Larry King, Ellen Barkin and Chely Wright, the first female country singer to come out.
I have not heard from an HLN spokeswoman yet.

Joy Behar is rude, self centered, opinionated, un-attractive, and I will never understand how she got where she is except for another similar individual in Barbara Walters. The View should be next to go. Without a doubt, one of the most slanted shows on TV and the fat one constantly eats when food is present. I watch the last couple of minutes while waiting on the noon news and Ch. 2. I don’t think I could stand more than a couple of minutes.
I also fail to understand the popularity of Walters, a self confessed home wrecker. She has never gotten the criticism she deserved for her affairs with married men, yet Herman Cain has caught hell for something un-proven as of yet. Typical press.
Looks like Newt is the next target since he is on the rise.

That Larry King lasted so long is a testament to the public’s low standards, and CNN cow-towing to status quo. He was boring with a capital B; his questions were never hard-hitting and he let his guests guide each appearance. We never learned anything of interest and on those rare occasions when I actually had my TV on and found King on the air, I found his show exasperating because I kept waiting for some excitement. Comes Joy Behar, a breath of fresh air, full of light-heartedness yet always at the ready with unexpected questions that elicited often surprising revelations from her guests. She is a rare breed of no-holds-barred interviewers, and the idiotic Behar-haters and name-callers can go live their ho-hum lives in an acrid desert. Again, I’m not an avid TV watcher but for sheer entertainment value, she rises above the rest in any given minute on the air.

I like Joy & the View but her show was recycled topics from what appeared on the View that day. I actually don’t blame CNN. I was surprised they even gave her a show. Joy is a hard core liberal doing pop culture entertainment news. CNN should have known that Republicans were not going to tune in.
On another thought Joy has been the subject of many blind items concerning her diva antics behind the scene of the View since she got that show. If any of the stories were true I bet she is showing up for work with a different attitude.

First of all, Joy was a constant fill in for Larry King. Oviously CNN thought that went well enough to give her a stint at her own show. Her show was probably cancelled due to low ratings. I personally like Joy Behar, but I didn’t watch her on HLN that often (my bad). However, I do regularly watch and enjoy The View. If some of you haters had a sense of humor…. I have mixed emotions about this. While I am glad she is losing her show, it seems she has backed off just a little on politics on The View. I obviously have watched her a couple times or I would not be able to comment on her show but what I have observered the few times I have given her a chance is that she is often ill prepared on subjects that are saturating the news, yet she is clueless. Her attempts at humor are mostly missed, and her closed liberal mind is unable to debate any issue with a well read, educated moderate (more or less conservative). She comes off as so arrogant that all she has to do is “show up” and she is fullfilling her obligation to the network and her audience instead of actually reading and studying current events in depth in order to debate, educate and entertain. It is no wonder why she has failing ratings. Close your eyes and pick any of the Fox Ladies and they will blow her away with intelligence, humor, substance, and entertainment value!

It’s easy to hate on Joy because she hates on everything and is mean-spirited and spiteful. No one is ‘jealous’ of her or ‘can’t handle her.’ If she were conservative, people would love her (and she would be Ann Coulter). Behar once stated on the View that children should be negotiated with when it comes to behavior—This enpowers them and puts the parent at a loss before anyone opens their mouth. Children need guidelines and they are not the ones to establish them as they have only their wants/desires to guide them not what is expected of them in today’s society which is what parents are trying to do.—

A lot of you seem ignorant to me. I like Joy Behar. I think she is funny, intelligent ( she was a teacher in her former life ), witty and I don’t care one bit about her political views. Her guests were interesting, and timely and topical. Her show was just a low key show for gathering and sharing information. Personally I can not stand to watch Nancy Grace and the reason her show is so much more popular is because you don’t need to be intelligent to watch missing persons reports night after night after night after night..give me a break. You need to be slightly smarter and more sophisticated to enjoy the humor and insight that Joy brings. I don’t like The View either – mostly because they have always talked over one another like kindergarteners. Thankfully I am at work during the day so what does it matter? Without Joy on the network ~ I won’t watch HLN at all ~ I thought hers was the only show worth watching. I hope another network scoops her up and she does a similar show for them.
