This year’s “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery will headline the annual Lenox Square annual Christmas tree lighting on Thanksgiving, November 24, 2011 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Gospel duo Mary Mary, who are also judges on BET’s “Sunday Best,” and Marietta’s own Melanie Moore, winner of this past season’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” will join him at this free event sponsored by Macy’s.

Channel 2 Action News Monica Pearson and David Chandley will co-anchor the ceremony on TV from 7 to 8 p.m. A pre-show concert begins at 6:15 p.m.

McCreery’s first single “I Love You This Big” peaked at No. 15 on the country charts. His current single “The Trouble With Girls” is at No. 32. His album “Clear as Day” has sold about 384,000 copies to date.

In past years, the tree lighting has drawn plenty of “Idol” acts, including Mandisa and Katharine McPhee.  Macy’s in recent years has also brought in pop, country,  and Christian acts such as Third Day, Jewel, LeAnn Rimes, Josh Turner and Big & Rich.

This happens so seldom, so I had to brag about it…

Harriett… that bromance was in US Weeklyt and I quoted from it in a previous entry.

Sam-A, must look into that movie.

Meanwhile, was really spooked by the “4-M” movie *Martha, Marcy May, M?. Starring a terrific younger Olsen girl, the twin’s sister Elizabeth. She’s fenomenal as kid who escapes from Manson-like cult, takes refuge with married sister and is haunted by nasty memories. Last scene has caused much discussion.

“Tower Heist” pleasant fun.

Thanks, Mercedes. People should keep their “mouths” shut when they don’t have all the facts. ;)

Good for Scotty. Nice guy, decent singer.

I really want to see Martha, Marcy May, Marlene but I live in the boonies and it would require driving into Atlanta which I avoid because traffic drives me nuts! I’ll either sacrifice myself to the traffic or I’ll wait for Netflix.

Last year, me and my kids were a pretty good ways away from Monica Pearson when one of my boys waved at her. She got off the stage, walked over to us and posed for several pictures. She was extremely nice to the people around us and took a lot of time to talk with everyone. She seemed very classy. We had a great time and will be back this year.

Stacy Francis(aka screamer/crier) the over 30 contestant whose crying fits and utter misery have “entertained” us on XF is now in trouble with both VFTW and her ex-husband who she accused of abusing her. VFTW is calling Ms Francis a liar in regards to her claims that she has little to no pro experience. Apparently she has quite a bit of professional singing and acting experience. And the guy she said abused her is not only denying her claim but says that he worked hard to help her realize her dream.

The hits just keep coming for XF.

Deirdre, “quite a bit of professional singing and acting experience”?????? Stacy Francis was playing a GOSPEL SINGER in “Bonfire of the Vanities” more than 20 years ago!! What seals the “she must go” deal for me – she’s a scientologist, which is how she got to hang out with Tom Cruise and others of that ilk…

Good for Scotty. …I guess. Although it’s kind of a big thing here (but not as good, I think, as when it was at the old downtown Rich’s), I doubt he’ll garner much national attention from it.

In another vein, as quirky as pacman is, you’d think it would find a way filter out the nonsensical comments! …Or perhaps that’s just on my wishlist!

This Neagu Mircea appears to have DNA proof that Justin Bieber the big singing star is the father of her baby and she wants someone to check her arithmetic. You can tell her from me that until this kid is on Sullivan or Hollywood Palace or reaches puberty there is no proof how big or small he is one way or the other.

Morning!

The Village Voice is also now reporting Stacy’s falsehoods.

Because Lucas has already had 3 vaccinations, the illness should be mild. If anyone here is living in or near California, please make sure that your child is up-to-date on his/her vaccines. And for all the rest of us, vaccines don’t just help save your child from a terrible disease, they protect other kids from your child.

And, first,Deirdre, I want to say I am sorry about the positive test, but so happy he’s being helped by the antibiotics. I know you will be on pins and needles until he is completely out of the woods. I also know you are joined at the heart with the precious little guy.

Yes, I did see Terra Nova last night and was blown away by the surprise at the end. Who knew? I really like the writing. Actually looking forward to Glee tonight. They are billing it as one of the best episodes ever. I hope so.

Mercedes, You disappointed me a bit. Scientology is certainly weird, but so are lots of other “organized ” religions – why I am not a fan of any organized religion. Ban birth control – sick; “kill the infidel Americans” – even sicker. However, the US does have “freedom of religion”. And, it seems that everyone who knows Tom Cruise says he is the nicest person you’d ever want to know. You’re one of my fave posters, but I’m a tiny bit sad right now!

Deirdre, looks like Lucas is gonna be great – as I said days ago, WC takes awhile to fully get over. And, yes, young kids need to take the recommended vaccinations, both for themselves and for those around them. I do think it’s been show pretty clearly that they do not cause autism. Our (older) generations took every vaccine invented, and autism was pretty rare, if even here at all, when we were growing up.

Rickster – Mrs R is hopefully on the road to recovery – as with the WC, Bronchitis is also a hard thing to shake off.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, Lucas will be fine and his parents haven’t had to suffer through those horrible coughing fits where the kid can’t breathe. Not sure how anyone gets through those. We’ll be going to see him soon so hubby and I have to get the booster shot. A necessary precaution. And don’t bring up the subject of kids not getting vaccinated with my son. He is in the “dirty filthy f-ing hippies” mode at the moment directed at whatever parent didn’t get their kid vaccinated and infected his kid. He’ll be able to talk about it rationally when Lucas is better. ;-)

Bottom line for me is that Stacy is a strong soul singer. She deserves a shot as much as anyone else.

Sing Off continues to be the top show. It was country and rock night. Delilah was eliminated last night, and it was long overdo. Afro Blue is cutting it close, but they are such a skilled group. The judges are giving Afro Blue a tough time for being a jazz group that is too technical. Is that what it’s come to? Go figure. Vocal Point and Urban Method are my other two favs that made it through.

I’m still in favor of the Sing Off voting process. Fan voting doesn’t open for another couple of weeks. That’s fine by me. So far, the judges have been making the right choices. If the process was wide open to the fans, there would probably be groups still in the competition that shouldn’t be there. Good job judges!

Rickster, I had a bout with bronchitis that turned into bronchial pneumonia and I was down and out for at least a month after it was diagnosed. Nasty disease and not easy to get rid of once it’s gotten itself established. Take good care of Mrs Rickster.

I also watched some of The Singoff last night and enjoyed it very much. These are the kind of judges we need on Idol and XF. When they give a critique, it’s based on specifics rather than generalities.

But, G, she’s had a shot, and more than one already! And, she came on acting like she’d never had one, saying “I don’t want to die with this music in me, Simon.” Then boo-hooing all over the place. Sorry. I hope she goes and goes next!!
