They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again: Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson are part of the upcoming VH1 Divas charity concert.
They will be joined by Jill Scott, Florence + the Machine, Mary J. Blige and Jesse J. (Jesse J? Really? Does anybody know who she is?)
Taped at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul will air Monday, December 19 at 9 p.m. on VH1.
Given Adele’s vocal problems, my guess is she wasn’t available though she certainly would fit the bill.
Each diva (and diva is a compliment here, folks) will pay tribute through their own soul-inspired songs as well as the greatest classics that have shaped a genre. For someone like Kelly Clarkson, this will certainly be going back to her “Idol” roots. Some of her most memorable performances in 2002 were soul classics. And Hudson? She is all soul.
The event supports VH1’s long-running Save the Music program to fund music programs in schools.
Here’s Hudson doing “Spotlight” on VH1 Divas 2009:
Here is Kelly Clarkson doing “Already Gone” for VH1 Divas.
- So what the heck happened with “Idol’ judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler anyway? He was in Paraguay and ended up falling in the shower, resulting in four stitches, reparative plastic surgery and two dental implants. He explains to Matt Lauer of “The Today Show” that he had not fallen off the wagon.
“Frankly, I just passed out,” he explained of what, if not a relapse, led to his injuries. “I was in the shower and I got nauseous and I started to get sick and I just fell on my face. I just passed out and woke up with the water on.”
Check out the photo. He does NOT look good, even for Steven Tyler.
- “The X Factor” finished with 12.09 million viewers for its first live show Tuesday and a 4.4 share among 18-49, tying its best to date among younger viewers. That’s still far below anything “Idol” has gotten and short of what “The Voice” typically pulled in during the spring on NBC.

Good for them, I still don’t see Kelly as a diva. But then I have a negative view of the term.
So what I’m seeing is that X-Factor is #3 in terms of the singing shows?

FYI, Y&R: O Hell no! “She who must not be named” is probably the worst “singer” (and I use the term very loosely) in any season’s top 12. Whiny, tinny, lispy – sounds like a two year old with a split tongue. That’s my opinion, but I know a whole lot of people (some of them on this blog) who agree with me totally!

In the “This will likely end up badly” department:
An Ohio zoo says despite its opposition, a woman plans to reclaim three leopards, two primates and a young grizzly bear that have been cared for by the zoo since her husband freed dozens of exotic animals at their farm and killed himself.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium says it was notified that Marian Thompson will pick up the animals Thursday afternoon.
The zoo says it took the six surviving animals last week from a farm in Zanesville with Thompson’s permission but has no legal rights to them. A spokeswoman says the zoo has contacted state and federal agencies in search of a way to keep the animals in its care and isn’t giving up yet.

Last week it was Scotty giving vacation advice. This week it’s Lauren’s turn.
Many people would love their vacation home be more than just a place to escape, but a real home-away-from home. “American Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina says she’s one of the lucky ones.
Ever since she was a child growing up in Georgia, she and her family have been making annual trips to Daytona Beach, Fla.
This year Alaina’s family trip was delayed due to a hectic touring schedule, a sign that although she didn’t snag the title, she’s on her way to becoming a real American star.
After the 16-year-old singer finished in second place on the tenth season of “Idol,” she released her debut album, “Wildflower” — which has climbed to number five on the Billboard 200 chart and number two on the Country Albums list.
Despite her busy schedule, Alaina’s family finally made it down to Daytona this year. So, what is it about this destination that keeps this young starlet coming back for more, year after year?
Daytona Beach, famous for it’s legendary NASCAR races, offers an ideal vacation spot for anyone seeking some sun, outdoor fun, and beautiful ocean views. The city in Volusia County on the eastern coast of Florida offers pristine beaches that have become a relaxing getaway for Alaina and her family.
Lauren Alaina: Since my mom was pregnant with me we’ve been doing to Daytona Beach. We’ve been going there every year around the first of July. It’s just really cool that we have this traditional family vacation. We always go to the same place, it’s a family at this place that we stay at, we know the people that stay there that weekend. It’s just a really relaxed place to stay at. The beach is really pretty. Actually, I missed the family vacation this year because I was on tour, so we went right after the tour ended. When I found out that I couldn’t go the same week we usually go, I was heartbroken. I cried the whole week. When something means so much to you, you miss it. It’s hard, but we still got to go. I made sure of it, and it was just as good as the other ones.
Fox411: What activities set Daytona Beach apart from other beaches?
Alaina: They have this thing there at the boardwalk called the slingshot, and ever since I was a really young girl I always wanted to ride it, it’s kind of expensive and was never able to ride it, but this year I rode it like 6 times with my best friend Marie and with my mom. My dad and brother rode it together and it was awesome. It’s just a really cool place to go hang out. I sing karaoke there every year, so it was weird to go and watch the karaoke there, knowing that I grew up doing that. I just love it down there, it’s the best place in the world.
Fox411: After riding the slingshot and singing your heart out, how do you unwind?
Alaina: Playing by the pool. That’s my mom’s favorite thing to do in the whole world, just lay by the pool all day and tan, because she has perfect skin to tan. Well, I actually tan really good too but I’ve been out of the sun for the past year so I didn’t tan that great this year. I was burning and I don’t usually burn, I was so mad!
Fox411: Where do you recommend vacationers to go for some grub?
Alaina: We love to go to Inlet Harbor and Aunt Catfish’s, those are out two favorite places in Daytona. Anything on the menu is really good but Inlet Harbor has a really good fried grouper sandwich. That’s one of my daddy’s favorites.
Fox411: What are the three must-haves for a Daytona Beach vacation.
Alaina: Tanning lotion, you need your family there, that’s the place to go to hang out with your family and “Wildflower” to listen to.

Three entertaining movies opening today – “Anonymous”, “In Time”, and “Take Shelter”.
“Anonymous” is a costume spectacle about crazy conspiracies – that the man known as Shakespeare could not have written his plays, that the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth R, would periodically retire to the country to deliver another illegitimate child, and a bunch of other hard to believe “truths”. Rhys Ifans very good as the nobleman behind Will, and Vanessa Redgrave ditto as the queen in her dotage.

I had fun at “In Time”, a dystopian fantasy written and directed by Andrew Niccol, who made the similarly themed “Gattaca” a couple of years ago. In the new movie, a man introduces his daughter, his wife and his mother-in-law, and they all look like they’re 25 years old. That’s because at 25, the folks in this beautiful nightmare stop aging. They have only one year to live, though, unless they can “pay” for extra time. Justin Timberlake is a working class guy from the “Hood” , where people are only a few hours away from “timing out”, and Amanda Seyfried a doll-like rich girl with hundreds of years to live.

Best new movie this week – “Take Shelter”. Michael Shannon will be nominated for an Oscar! He plays a man with odd nightmares – or are they premonitions? Is the world facing an environmental disaster… or is Shannon’s honest, normally dependable, family man going skizo like his mom before him? Jessica Chastain equally good as the wife trying to stand by her man. Fabulous twist at the end!

Oh yeah; The Falcon Nation is pleased with the RAMS win over the aints!!! A loss from the aints is the same as a Falcons win. GO FALCONS!

Those were all actors rather than comedians. A comedian like Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell, who are admittedly making a small fortune doing movies with basically the same plot over and over again seem to frequently go for that last resort. Adam Sandler had stepped, imo, into another arena when he made Grown-ups, which was a sweet-natured, funny film. Then he gets Jennifer Aniston to do an awful movie with him and now he’s in drag.

Hi y’all!
Well, we beat Florida! Definitely a good weekend in GA sports!
Thanks for the Kelly interviews. She’s always an entertaining interviewee. I sure didn’t know that she sleeps with a Colt .45. I sure hope she meant the beer, but I’m guessing no. Of course, if I were around…there wouldn’t be a need for that.

You’re right, of course, D. Your comment just made me think of those others.
Dear G: I am a South Carolinian who was a “transplant” for about 15 years. I totally embrace the GA teams–all of them–unless they are playing my SC Gamec0cks! And, no matter that I live less than 100 miles from Charlotte and happened to be born there, I will always be a Falcons fan. In fact, I ended up on this blog because I missed Atlanta and GA so much that I went looking on the AJC site.

Two quick items:
1. The front page has a link that says “Pink Pig Returns.” It may be pink… and it may look like a pig.. but that’s not the Pink Pig us old timers remember.
2. While Haley Reinhardt is easier on the eyes… Id’ rather listen to Adele.

Hope Adele’s throat surgery goes well.
Good point, D., about ACTORS dressing in drag – in movies that last. There’s something about Adam Sandler that just bugs me. He reminds me of Jerry Lewis, and I’m not French.

Who couldn’t see this coming? (JT… you’re back in the hunt!)
Kim Kardashian will file for divorce from husband Kris Humphries Monday, after less than three months of marriage.
Though their marital bliss was short-lived, the reality star is not seeking an annulment and will list “irreconcilable differences” as the cause, TMZ reported.
“Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning. I touched base with her, getting a statement in just a few mins,” Ryan Seacrest tweeted in response to the report.
Kardashian, 31, married the NBA player, 26, at a star-studded Hollywood ceremony August 20.

If those older women went for mature men, maybe their relationships would last. Then again, some men never mature…

Gotta say, my hubby is 6 years younger than me, married 31 years and pretty frickin happy at the moment…may it continue!
I think the problem in the Kim/Kris marriage may be with the egos of the bride and groom.

D, six is not a bad gap. But, even the men who have had happy marriages and then something happens to the wife end up with much younger women the second time around. I have had long conversations with a high school friend, who has spent the past 20 years as a single man, after his marriage ended in divorce. He claims it wouldn’t make any difference to him if a woman he dated was his age (same as mine), but I got a look at his Facebook and his latest “former” girlfriend graduated from high school in 1996. Yikes! So, even though he says one thing, he actually does the opposite in reality.

Don’t doubt it, Harriett. And I think “ego” has everything to do with that as well. Just saying that the Kim/Kris age difference is hardly even a bump. She’s 31, he’s 26.

Time for me to run. By the way, the Halloween costumes on Weekend Today were hilarious. They all dressed up as the Kardashians. Lester Holt was Bruce Jenner and Amy Robach was Kim. Jenna Wolfe was hilarious as Kourtney, too.

Morning!
That’s exactly what it seems to be doing, Mercedes. The discussion that Rick and Lori had about whether it would be better for Carl if he died. The horrifying decision Shane makes to save himself and also to get medical equipment to a dying Carl. Can what he did be justified?
Haven’t seen last night’s Terra Nova yet. Will watch it sometime this week.

Good morning!
I guess I am going to have to catch up on The Walking Dead over the Christmas holidays. I cannot seem to work in time enough for everything. D, Terra Nova was pretty good last night–not great, but entertaining. There is a sub plot involving the son that is developing, but you will see for yourself and then maybe we can talk about it. I am still a bit confused, so I’d like to discuss.

I’ll let you know when I’ve seen it, Harriett.
Did everyone have fun with trick-or-treaters last night? I usually get very few here…houses far apart and uphill…..but my doorbell rang a lot last night. We used to live in a neighborhood(when my kids were very young) where there were so many ghosts and goblins that a car couldn’t get down the street. That was fun.

I though Robin Williams was quite good in drag in Mrs. Doubtfire.
