Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson join VH1 Divas again; Steven Tyler takes a tumble

They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again: Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson are part of the upcoming VH1 Divas charity concert.

They will be joined by Jill Scott, Florence + the Machine, Mary J. Blige and Jesse J. (Jesse J? Really? Does anybody know who she is?)

Taped at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul will air Monday, December 19 at 9 p.m.  on VH1.

Given Adele’s vocal problems, my guess is she wasn’t available though she certainly would fit the bill.

Each diva (and diva is a compliment here, folks) will pay tribute through their own soul-inspired songs as well as the greatest classics that have shaped a genre.  For someone like Kelly Clarkson, this will certainly be going back to her “Idol” roots. Some of her most memorable performances in 2002 were soul classics. And Hudson? She is all soul.

The event supports VH1’s long-running Save the Music program to fund music programs in schools.

Here’s Hudson doing “Spotlight” on VH1 Divas 2009:

Here is Kelly Clarkson doing “Already Gone” for VH1 Divas.

- So what the heck happened with “Idol’ judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler anyway? He was in Paraguay and ended up falling in the shower, resulting in four stitches, reparative plastic surgery and two dental implants. He explains to Matt Lauer of “The Today Show” that he had not fallen off the wagon.

“Frankly, I just passed out,” he explained of what, if not a relapse, led to his injuries. “I was in the shower and I got nauseous and I started to get sick and I just fell on my face. I just passed out and woke up with the water on.”

Check out the photo. He does NOT look good, even for Steven Tyler.

- “The X Factor” finished with 12.09 million viewers for its first live show Tuesday and a 4.4 share among 18-49, tying its best to date among younger viewers. That’s still far below anything “Idol” has gotten and short of what “The Voice” typically pulled in during the spring on NBC.

Good for them, I still don’t see Kelly as a diva. But then I have a negative view of the term.

So what I’m seeing is that X-Factor is #3 in terms of the singing shows?

Sometimes “diva” just means “man, can that girl sing!!!!!”

Love Kelly’s song. Listening to JHud’s next. Hope my neighbor is enjoying this! ;-)

And Rodney, next to last post on the previous Idol thread…you might want to delete that one yourself.

I know, we’ve had this discussion a few times, I just can’t get past the negative that has been built up around the term.

Nice picture of Jennifer, Lose all the weight you want, but keep those hips.

FYI, Y&R: O Hell no! “She who must not be named” is probably the worst “singer” (and I use the term very loosely) in any season’s top 12. Whiny, tinny, lispy – sounds like a two year old with a split tongue. That’s my opinion, but I know a whole lot of people (some of them on this blog) who agree with me totally!

Rickster, I’d agree but the war about to be waged over that post is so not worth it. Been there, didn’t enjoy it.

I currently having a small but friendly discussion with one of Rodney’s friends on facebook who is of the opinion that “many teapartiers” are racist. Not a teapartier myself but seriously!!!!!!

I usually try to avoid it as well unless someone decides to label a whole group or movement. Kinda pizzes me off. I won’t get into it with him anymore, I promise!

Some folks like to wield a broad brush, which is frequently unfair.

Uh oh, so if I say that the Tea Party caters to ignorant conservatives just as the Occupy movement caters to ignorant liberals… I’ll incur the wrath of Deirdre?

I better not do that.

Anyway, as for Idol: that picture of Steven Tyler is rather nasty, but meh, it could have been worse. However, I’m not sure that I would have trusted Paraguayan dentistry. I’m sure it’s top notch, but if it could wait until I returned to the States, I would have waited.

Nobody said anything about whether they’re smart or not, JT…living in the Atlanta area I just get sick and tired of the “racist” word getting bandied about as if disagreeing on ANYTHING makes you racist(unless you are a liberal of course because liberals aren’t racist,…everyone knows it)

Well, hello! I’m glad Kelly is doing Divas again. And yes, I know who Jessie J. She sings Price Tag. It got some Top 40 airplay, but I don’t believe it was a too popular. She’s not to be confused with Jessie James, who is the pop country girl who sings Wanted.

In the “This will likely end up badly” department:

An Ohio zoo says despite its opposition, a woman plans to reclaim three leopards, two primates and a young grizzly bear that have been cared for by the zoo since her husband freed dozens of exotic animals at their farm and killed himself.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium says it was notified that Marian Thompson will pick up the animals Thursday afternoon.

The zoo says it took the six surviving animals last week from a farm in Zanesville with Thompson’s permission but has no legal rights to them. A spokeswoman says the zoo has contacted state and federal agencies in search of a way to keep the animals in its care and isn’t giving up yet.

Last week it was Scotty giving vacation advice. This week it’s Lauren’s turn.

Many people would love their vacation home be more than just a place to escape, but a real home-away-from home. “American Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina says she’s one of the lucky ones.

Ever since she was a child growing up in Georgia, she and her family have been making annual trips to Daytona Beach, Fla.

This year Alaina’s family trip was delayed due to a hectic touring schedule, a sign that although she didn’t snag the title, she’s on her way to becoming a real American star.

After the 16-year-old singer finished in second place on the tenth season of “Idol,” she released her debut album, “Wildflower” — which has climbed to number five on the Billboard 200 chart and number two on the Country Albums list.

Despite her busy schedule, Alaina’s family finally made it down to Daytona this year. So, what is it about this destination that keeps this young starlet coming back for more, year after year?

Daytona Beach, famous for it’s legendary NASCAR races, offers an ideal vacation spot for anyone seeking some sun, outdoor fun, and beautiful ocean views. The city in Volusia County on the eastern coast of Florida offers pristine beaches that have become a relaxing getaway for Alaina and her family.

Lauren Alaina: Since my mom was pregnant with me we’ve been doing to Daytona Beach. We’ve been going there every year around the first of July. It’s just really cool that we have this traditional family vacation. We always go to the same place, it’s a family at this place that we stay at, we know the people that stay there that weekend. It’s just a really relaxed place to stay at. The beach is really pretty. Actually, I missed the family vacation this year because I was on tour, so we went right after the tour ended. When I found out that I couldn’t go the same week we usually go, I was heartbroken. I cried the whole week. When something means so much to you, you miss it. It’s hard, but we still got to go. I made sure of it, and it was just as good as the other ones.

Fox411: What activities set Daytona Beach apart from other beaches?

Alaina: They have this thing there at the boardwalk called the slingshot, and ever since I was a really young girl I always wanted to ride it, it’s kind of expensive and was never able to ride it, but this year I rode it like 6 times with my best friend Marie and with my mom. My dad and brother rode it together and it was awesome. It’s just a really cool place to go hang out. I sing karaoke there every year, so it was weird to go and watch the karaoke there, knowing that I grew up doing that. I just love it down there, it’s the best place in the world.

Fox411: After riding the slingshot and singing your heart out, how do you unwind?

Alaina: Playing by the pool. That’s my mom’s favorite thing to do in the whole world, just lay by the pool all day and tan, because she has perfect skin to tan. Well, I actually tan really good too but I’ve been out of the sun for the past year so I didn’t tan that great this year. I was burning and I don’t usually burn, I was so mad!

Fox411: Where do you recommend vacationers to go for some grub?

Alaina: We love to go to Inlet Harbor and Aunt Catfish’s, those are out two favorite places in Daytona. Anything on the menu is really good but Inlet Harbor has a really good fried grouper sandwich. That’s one of my daddy’s favorites.

Fox411: What are the three must-haves for a Daytona Beach vacation.

Alaina: Tanning lotion, you need your family there, that’s the place to go to hang out with your family and “Wildflower” to listen to.

Just checkin, Deirdre!

Hope Jack Hanna can convince the authorities to let his zoo keep those poor animals. All they need is to return to the scene of such carnage, and possibly of life long abuse at the hands of this couple.

I have to say I was really disappointed that “Walking Dead” ended this weeks show with that big a cliffhanger! How will I make it to next week not knowing how the two guys get thru this disaster!

I hope the woman doesn’t get the animals back either. Seems to me when those cages were open, they relinquished all rights. Hope the law sees it that way.

Hubby just returned from London and brought back an interesting article about XF UK. Apparently the ratings in the UK have dropped this year and Simon is now being accused of manufacturing arguments between the judges in an effort to raise the ratings.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Simon is a true a-hole, much worse than when he lorded over Idol! It was pretty funny the other night when Simone opened her mouth and all thos dulcet-less tones dropped out. His face was all skwenchy and tightened up – you could tell he was embarrassed, but then he launched into the two ladies saying Simone was “a star” et al. What a come-down for him it must have been to send his 2 “proteges” home – sure wish the rest of the gang had called him out about it.
