‘Idol’ now battling ‘Sunday Night Football’ for priciest ad; Crystal Bowersox dropped from label

After several years as TV’s pricest TV show (as well as most popular), “American Idol” now has a competitor in NFL’s “Sunday Night Football” on NBC, according to Ad Age estimates.

An ad on “Idol” can cost from $468,100 and $502,900, the survey said, though some advertisers as the finale approaches can pay far more than $600,000. The NBC football program averages $512,367, up from $415,000 a year ago.  Ad Age says shows that people are more apt to watch live, as in reality programs like “Idol” and football, are valuable to advertisers.

Sunday night is the most expensive night to buy ads. Thursday is second.

- L.A. Reid spoke to us media folks last Thursday but honestly, he was disappointing. He refused to specifically bad mouth his other judges or their picks, even for fun, although he admitted he didn’t agree with some of the choices. Oh, well. And nobody asked him about whether he shied away from the two country singers because he isn’t into that genre. TMZ claims there is bad blood between Reid and Simon Cowell – or this is simply a publicity stunt?

- RCA’s Jive Records is going away and so is Crystal Bowersox’s record deal with them. Lee DeWyze was cut from RCA recently as well. This is the fastest “Idol” winners and runners up have been dropped, according to this MTV story. This cements what we already knew: season 9 was a dud (although I personally liked Bowersox.) Bowersox will be making her acting debut on ABC’s “Body of Proof” tomorrow night. Her first album “Farmer’s Daughter” sold 210,000 copies,  more than winner DeWyze’s “Live It Up” (just 146,000).

“I’m not worried about where I’m gonna be,” Bowersox told TVline. “I’m gonna be making music if it’s on my own label or if it’s with somebody else. I’d love to work with ATO, Dave Matthews’ label. We’ll see what happens.”

- Scotty McCreery’s new video for “The Trouble With Girls”

- Kelly Clarkson tells USA Today she has never been in love. Her fifth studio album “Stronger” is out now. And she’d like to do Broadway one day. Here is a portion of the interview by video and it’s cool beans to see fame hasn’t gotten to her head at all:

- “American Idol’ season 11’s very stylized (but content free) promo:

- “X Factor” will cut five from the 17 Tuesday night.

- Kellie Pickler’s album “100 Proof” is coming out January 24. Unfortunately, her first single “Tough” hasn’t done particularly well. Hopefully, whatever single two is will do better.

or this is simply a publicity stunt? I vote stunt, especially since Simon must be disappointed that XF didn’t blow AI out of the ratings water.

I think Scotty’s song is age-appropriate and very nice. Sweet. Not sure it will be a hit but I wish him the best.

My sympathies to Negativo on Crystal’s record deal loss.

If Idol is a show to find the next pop singer – why are they pulling all these groups into the procession?

Kelly quote:

Clarkson, 29, told USA Today she’d like to hold off on marriage until her late thirties. “I think that you should wait because first of all, statistically you’re screwed,” she said. “People are going to get divorced and then they’re going to get married again. . . . And like, I think if we wait until we’re like late thirties, that’s a good time.”

Anyone who’s interested in real group harmonies and near pitch perfect performances….The Sing Off has been stellar this season. Hip hop theme was the flavor for tonight’s show. If you hate rap music, these groups put on performances good enough to change your mind. Tonight’s show was truly a treat.

Morning!

Watched some of the Sing Off last night and really enjoyed it. I’m not into the competition as much as I am seeing what each group will do with the music.

Mercedes, since Kelly travels with a band and wardrobe and tons of performance stuff, my guess is that her first 2 bags are a minor drop in the bucket.

Looking forward to XF tonight. I do like some of the singers who were chosen. I also want to see how they will eliminate 5 more acts before we even get to vote. They’d better make Dexter go away! However, I would keep Dexter if they promised to eliminate Stacy!

Tonight’s show is the ‘wild card’ show, and for some ungodly reason, we’re expected to put up with 2 1/2 hours! Can’t believe Fox would give up 30 mins of their news for this crappola!

K&CF: have heard the first 10 tracks of the new album (only listen to music in the car) – I bought the extra tracks bonus version. Sounds like some good songs – I really like #9 – think it’s “I Forgive You” or something like that. Can’t wait to hear the rest on the way home tonight.

“Since Kelly travels with a band and wardrobe”… many people flying with more than two bags have started to ship them ahead. They say it’s cheaper than paying the airline’s punishing fees.

Mercedes S.

’ship them ahead” – obviously not with an airline company…

Diana DeGarmo will be on “The Young and tne Restless”. Quote from TV Guide:

“After DeGarmo lost the crown to Fantasia in 2004, she pursueed a career in musicals, appearing on Broadway in”Hairspray” and “Hair” and in the off-Broadway hit “The Toxic Avenger”. She wasn’t warmly welcomed. ‘There was a lot of animosity towards me at first,’ DeGarmo says. ‘The New York theatre community didn’t like being invaded by reality stars ‘ they still don’t – but I got in there and auditioned just like everybody else.’”

rest of DeGarmo Quote:

“Fantasia, Clay Aiken, Constantine Maroulis and Ace Young all eventually followed her to the Great White Way. ‘There was a perception that reality-show people are just mere personalities, that they don’t have real talent, and I worked really hard to change people’s minds,’ DeGarmo says. ‘I’m proud I was the first to do that for on Broadway!’”

Rodney, I heard that Diana’s character on Y&R is a mob daughter who wants to sing. Ask her if she will have to hit some bum notes on the show or is her character a good singer.

And re XF…I’m pretty sure the judges are eliminating not adding singers tonight. The rugby coach will not be back if that is the case.

Hey y’all!

Branch and Rickster, LOL! This isn’t the first time Kelly’s said she’s never been in love. Guess she’s not a believer in love at first sight. Maybe after Christmas I’ll have better news to report.;)

Rickster, Kelly travels on a bus with her backup singers. The rest of the band has their own bus, and there’s a third one for other crew. But the bus is more while she’s on tour. While she’s been doing the promo for Stronger, she’s been flying.

Sam-A, yes, I Forgive You is a great track. I also love You Love Me and The War is Over. Enjoy. I honestly think this is one of her best albums. I might even rank it second to Breakaway. Tho I have to let the “newness” factor settle before I can say 100%.

Did anyone see the Northern Lights last night? We used to see them all the time in northern Maine but the best display I ever saw lasted for about 3 hours in Rochester NY. The sky was lit up with beautiful colors from red to green to lavender. Really amazing.

Diana’s character on Y&R (again, TV Guide) “believes she’s Barbra Streisand mixed with Celine Dion”, says Diana, and “Sh’es an over-the-top. gum-smacking, tone-deaf princess whose hair is as large as her attitude.”

Rodney, ask Diana when she felt accepted by Broadway people. Or does she still feel she has to prove herself to those snooty thespians?

This from the site, so AJC tv guide apparently got it wrong, witht he exception of the 2 1/2 hours.

Having faced accusations of being boring and of spinning out meager action for far too long, ‘The X Factor’ producers have decided to ramp up the action for tonight’s first live show. Their anti-boredom solution? A mass cull. Of contestants, that is. (Superfluous-seeming host Brian Dunkleman – Steve Jones is not, contrary to rumors, being fired: “Our Welshie is staying for the long haul.”)

A message on the show’s official Twitter page reads: “Breaking news! 5 of the 17 acts will be eliminated by the judges on 10/25.” As tonight’s live show will clock in at a mammoth two and a half hours long, that’s roughly one elimination per pulse-quickening 30 minutes.

The surviving 12 acts will perform for the public vote on another live show, airing Wednesday November 2. That will be followed by a live results show on Thursday November 3.

Anybody have choices about who will be eliminated? Unfortunately I have heard that it will be one act from each group except for Simon whose group will have to say goodbye to 2 people.

I vote either Dexter or Stacy from Nicole’s group.

Tiah and Simone from Simon’s group

The Little Rapper Boy from LA’s group

And I don’t care from Paula’s group.
